Crown Princess Mary is a star herself - so poised, so natural - and so very beautiful - 2nd to none. The Danes are so lucky to have her. Long live FrederiK and Mary's love for each other.
Good on you, Mary. Still able to have a chuckle at your own expense - doing both Aussies and Danes proud. Love having the Danish connection in my family tree. Wish my danish was better, though...
I know this is almost 10 years old but the black accents on her gown and wrist suggested mourning to me. White is, of course also a color of mourning but I really do suspect those accents represent mourning for someone.
I live near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. I've always been enchanted and intrigued by European Royalty, especially the stories with an American twist such as with Duchess Meghan and Philly's own princess: Grace of Monaco. When it comes to the cream of the crop, of course, no one can compare with the incomparable Diana, Princess of Wales....BUTTT there is just something so special abt Princess Mary of Denmark. She can teach all modern women a thing or two abt class.
I can tell you they are both downright lazy. She is a shopaholic and has spend astronomic amounts of money on clothing and luxury. And no one in the royal family cares about environmental issues. Nobody questions their lifestyle or even dare to be critical - no journalists and not even the few republican parties in the parliament. They are both as shiftless as the rest of the family. They have their fans, but not me. I have ZERO respect for them! And by the way, I am Danish.
@@Ettibridget I admit my fascination is quite superficial. LOL. I can say the same thing abt Trump. While I think we, as Americans, can be quite boastful(not in a good way, necessarily), I wouldn't live anywhere else but "orangeman" has most definitely hurt our reputation on the world stage regarding a lot of the same issues.
As a person who speaks more than four languages, I can tell you English is very easy. The pronunciation is a different story, depending which English you're trying to learn (UK, America, Australia, etc).
+Sean Redmond According to the US government, it is a category one language out of five categories (with the fifth category being the hardest). It is one of the easiest languages for a native born English speaker to learn!
Sean Redmond the grammar is easy as there are very few rules (that are actually followed) but the pronunciation is extremely hard and I would say for English speakers, it is easier because there are similar words but not much easier for them
i've always wondered what language she thinks in now. i know as early as 2008, she was interviewed and said that when her & Frederik are alone, or with their children, they speak danish. so it's not just something she uses in public, it's in private as well. i have to imagine that eventually goes into your brain on a subconscious level. which, in fact, may be WHY she switched in this video - perhaps she's still thinking in english & is constantly reminding herself without thinking to translate what she's reading into danish.
+sprinklefriend Actually, I think it's the opposite. I'm an American who had the (very fortunate) opportunity to go to school in Denmark for a year when I was in college. It was a total immersion exchange program, so I started speaking entirely in Danish as quickly as I could. When I got back home to Louisiana, I kept finding myself starting out a sentence in English, and then having to go back to the start when I realized that I'd been subconsciously counting on a Danish word/concept to be there -- or, more often, just saying the Danish words and then explaining. When I hit a word like "hyggeligt" I'd just finish and explain that it meant "cozy," but a bit more than that. When I hit a word that, in Danish, was very close to the English version, I'd switch to Danish without realizing I was doing it. And nothing triggered that more quickly than Danish names. My Mom, Grandmother, and sister came to visit me while I was in Denmark and they'd struck up a friendship with the host family I was staying with. So, one day, when my sister asked if I'd heard from Lars lately (the younger son in the family that took me in), I told her that I had, that he'd actually opened his own business selling camping supplies and that it was doing really, really well. She said, "Uh...I didn't get that." I hadn't realized that just the mention of his name would make me switch to Danish without even knowing I was doing it.
+sprinklefriend you can't speak a language fluently without being able to think in that language. When I speak english, I think in english. when I speak danish, I think in danish. Because I understand both languages, I have no need to translate it in my head. Of cause sometimes I forget words in english and can only remember the danish version of it. but it also happens that I forget a word in danish and can only remember the english word.
+sprinklefriend Pretty sure she thinks in danish most of the time now, but that she thinks in english when speaking english. That's the way my brain function when I switch languages. Here, she probably switched because of the names. She pronounced the names in danish (as she should), and because she switched to danish for the names, it came natural to continue in the same language. I didn't even notice her language switch until she commented on it LOL :-) I have the same problem when I speak english and have to pronounce something in norwegian. It messes with my language because it confuses what language I think in.
astrofreak12 As an American, I took French for three years. I could translate fluently but could not learn to speak it no matter how hard I tried. Then I attempted to learn Spanish. The same thing happened. I learned four years ago that I have a brain disease I have had since birth. I am wondering if that is the reason. It would be nice to be able to blame it on the disease rather than plain old stupidity! One thing for certain, if I had met a handsome prince and our relationship hinged on my learning to speak his language, I could forget having that relationship!! Lol
@@merk9569 I adore the French language but only managed 4 years of school lessons which does not create French speakers lol. I'm sorry to hear of your brain disease. Each part of the brain has a special function so it may be the reason which must be frustrating for you. Never leave your house without a notepad, a pen and your dreams :)
well... when she speaks Danish she still has a strong accent. She speaks Danish beautifully but not as I do or other Danes... I guess it changes when she speaks English because now she's a princess and used to speak more formal and also in Danish though she has an accent. But I like her and very happy that she's crown princess in my country! I hope to meet her one day
@ferzy09 That would be incredibly hard, but if you are very good at learning languages and have studied Danish for years, it would probably be possible.
***** She doesn't at all. It's actually a little weird whenever I do hear her speak in English, as I just naturally assume she will sound Australian! As to the accent she has now, its really neutral, and I'd be hard pushed to actually place it. Could her sounding that way be the result of speaking mostly Danish now?
The woman is a stunner, nothing else to say!! 👍 Oh yes, except #KateWho? No serious offense, she's just constantly being unnecessarily glorified for formulating a whole sentence in her mother tongue in public ^^ Crown Princess Mary actually rocks!
@sarahspeaks144 Ah we meet again but on a much happier video. Mary sets the standard of how a commoner can become a beautiful and gracious Princess. Before marrying Frederik she had to learn everything Danish from the language to the customs and traditions. She also had to relinquish Australian citizenship. She's still our Mary and we adore Frederik. They are still so very much in love. Her speech to him at the celebration of his 50th birthday brings tears to my eyes. It's the best speech I've ever heard. I'm done with the British RF. Too much drama. The Danish RF puts them to shame.
@sarahspeaks144 Oh, don't worry. I'm a very easy going person however I allowed myself to become agitated when provoked by ignorant and rude comments. It's truly not worth getting upset about so leaving the comment section was the option I took. Keep praying, they need all the help they can get. I'll keep up to date with the comings and goings as I believe the next few months are going to be very interesting. Years ago when my kids were younger I worked part time with a woman who was a single mum. Her ex husband had ADHD and she was trying to cope with their 3 children who all had it too. She was so placid and a wonderful mother but visiting her house was an absolute nightmare. Ritalin didn't help one little bit. Not all children are monsters from neglect. Just sharing that as she worked during school hours and was home when the kids were. I lost touch with her sadly and dread to think how they are now. I've always believed if you have kids they need a stay at home parent. Why have them just to put them in care and go back to work. Doesn't make sense to me. Catherine is a home maker and a wonderful mother too. I've always felt William really got lucky there. Whether she can do it full time is the question. Or would the public and the Queen allow her to is possibly more accurate. I guess whichever way she goes, she will receive criticism. In watching Mary, she has a home office and people come to see her. She also hosts meetings there so she's never far from her children. No doubt that's something Catherine could do too. They are super organised which lessens the stress of living in the public eye. One thing that stands out is how well behaved the children are, even at boring events such as a christening. Whatever they are doing should be bottled haha
