Lovely video... I do love to watch videos that are not rushed and lovingly voiced over. I so appreciate the bits of history and points of interest. Cheers & Obrigada ~
Aww thank you Jen. It’s nice that there isn’t a huge rush on TH-cam like the old TV days where you only had so much time between commercials and air time (and a super rushed script).
The town where I spent my hollidays during my childhood and as a teenager. My grand parents had a house there (shown at 1.10 min). It changed quite a lot since then. The dunes used to be huge until they decided to build the road up to the lighthouse. There wasn't even a bridge linking both margins of the Mira river. Thank you for this kind video of this place that is so dear to me.
@@AmericanInPortugal Yes, big changes indeed. Milfontes is much more developed now. The town is much more developed now. Some of the natural beauty of Milfontes was lost, but it also brought some money and prosperity to the village. There was a lot of poverty back then, although people were resilient and managed to get by. I live in Lisbon, but I had spent some years in the UK. Hope you are still enjoying Portugal. Thank you once again for this great video.
Thank you , picturesque and informative. The coast resembles California coast indeed, those dunes/ cliffs/ small beaches exactly like the coast between San Francisco and Santa Cruz.
May will be beautiful, I think May/June and the end of September/October are the best months to travel Europe. It's a gem and I wish I had more time to explore the many trails. As you can see they're pretty flat so not too difficult to explore.
Thank you for your kind words. I am not a professional as I just use my iPhone to video and even to edit these little movies but I just love it so much here and it’s so fun to share
Thanks for your video and introducing me to Milfontes. What a charming village! We've been researching the Eastern Algarve and the Silver Coast as areas to immigrate to sometime in 2021, and we also included Alentejo, but at first glance it didn't seem as interesting, but we'll give it a second look. Proximity to Lisbon, but not too close, and a warmer climate in winter, are our main wants. 🙂
It's beautiful there. If you're moving here I recommend renting while you find the perfect town. There are so many to choose from that it's difficult unless you live here and visit in the summer and winter.
Thank you! 😃 Awww...yes Alentejanos are special!!! I love the area and the food and of course the WINE!!!! Yummy...I will make more and I need to get to the wineries of the region :)
Hi Veronica! My husband and I were going on a scouting trip to Portugal back in March that had to be canceled and are eager to reschedule our visit to Portugal I stumbled across your TH-cam channel and got very excited. We also lived in orange county California and the San Luis Obispo area for years. We are now in The mountains of North Carolina, but are still considering a move overseas. We tried out moving to Belize and Costa Rica but they weren’t the right fit for us. Portugal looks like it might have all of what we are looking for! I am in the process of looking into my ancestry for dual passports, since I have German and Hungarian grandparents. But it seems pretty complicated and Covid has certainly changed a lot of things. Hoping to connect with you on Facebook and maybe pick your brain a little. This video was very enjoyable as it reminded me of Los Osos on the central coast where we used to live. Thanks for all the videos you’ve posted. I am looking forward to going through more of them in the next few days. 😁

You can start looking through rental properties online (but always use an attorney to review before sending money of course) to get a feel for the market. Make sure it says all year rentals as people love to rent in the off season and then rent weekly during the summer months. I share my attorney information on my PDF but there are many good ones. I just always tell people to check it out or maybe do an air b&b when you arrive to check out the rentals yourself first (and still use an attorney as all members of the family need to approve a rental-French style inheritance law here). You don’t want to find out someone rented the property to you who doesn’t have the authority. Visa information: www.vfsglobal.com/Portugal/USA/residency-permit.html
Looks like a beautiful place TFS also was very quiet not a lot of people maybe that is the effect of COVID. We have visited so many beautiful places in Portugal Cascais and The Algarve some of our favourites, Hope you are staying safe and keeping well have a great week Cheers 🍷😎🍺🌞
Hello Veronica! I hope you and your husband are great! My name`s Duarte, I am from Porto and I am watching, loving your videos because you are in Vila Real de Santo António, where I passed my holidays childhood. Veronica You must visit Évora is near where you are and you are going to love it. "I hope" You`ve got the Megalithic Circuit and the Capela do ossos "bones chapel" which freaked me out when I got there for the first time. All the best for you! 😊💪💪💪
It's so pretty there and the off season is fabulous. There are lots of hidden and quiet places in the Algarve. Most of the tourists fly in and head west to party, golf and of course surf those waves on the Far West Coast (the super far West Coast is hidden and also amazing...Aljezur). The biggest tourist spots to avoid if you want a calmer experience are Albufiera, Lagos and the golf mecca of the golden triangle.
I think most of the beaches get crazy in the summer so it's best to go in May and June and also September and October. Not so hot and beautiful and empty. Why go when it's so hot and crowded? Well, people who have only summer holidays or children in school don't have a choice but if you do have a choice I agree! Go in the off-months...so smart!
The two towns are not that far apart from each other, only 186km (around 115 milles) so the temperature is quite similar, however V. R. Santo António (Algarve) in comparison to Milfontes (coastal Alentejo) is around 2C° warmer.
It's similar, I was looking at the temperature at both places as I was preparing to go and they are 1-4 degrees different. Eastern Algarve also has the ocean and the river to keep it temperate. What makes a difference in temperature is really the way the wind is blowing (and any storm or pressure system of course). Where do you live?
The way u said Milfontes on 19: 07 is better than when u repeat for the second time. You don't need to stress the S as much, because if you do sounds artificial 👍👍

Lovely, but please remember to try and get away from AMERICAN temperature values, It might be better to use f and Centigrade as Europeans understand and use metric scales.
@@AmericanInPortugal judging by the comments here it seems you have plenty enough in your audience who are Portuguese and international. So I don't think it would hurt to provide both F and C; it'd take just a split second, and no explanation would be necessary. 🙂
Bring your own...European men are not the same as our style of men...the opening the car door is foreign (except for my friends BF who spent most of his life in the States). I know I'm going to get in trouble for saying this but so far I haven't found any from Europe who really "get" it. Probably just the way we were raised, cultural differences.
