Glad I found this video. I am a purely amateur engineer, but a 40 years plus teacher. This guy is a superb teacher and a great welder. He's covered all of my questions and then some without me feeling like an idiot, that takes skill and a great understanding of those of us he is teaching, plus a fantastic in depth knowledge of his subject.

I have been working diligently for the last several months at teaching myself welding using web-based resources. I have watched dozens of TH-cam videos and have read many articles. This is the single best video I have seen on stick welding. I intend to go back and basically transcribe it in note form as a reference to keep alongside my stick welding machine, to review before fit up.
I am totally new to arc welding. My Father welded a bit back in the day for construction, but hasn't done it in 50 or 60 years. Thus, I went too TH-cam for some lessons. This is the best, most informative video yet. I watched a bunch of 'em too. This video seemed to be very detailed about very useful information for me. Thanks for the lessons. Aloha!
When you see this video you click all around it looking at welding tips etc..but then somthing says watch me I'm retro and you do and your blown away. Hands down the best welding advice I've came across yet.
I am a self taught welder for nearly fifteen years, and I weld on a regular basis and this guy got my attention, he has to be a welding instructor/ teacher.
Of the videos and web pages I have looked at so far, those by Steve are by far the best. You can't just watch a video and be a great welder but by watching his videos you can reduce the time needed to be a better welder because we learn how to find the sweet spot with our current, rod angle, travel speed, and arc length settings. The explanation of the various features of rods a big plus. Great teacher, thanks!
This guy is not a welder. Any welder will watch you weld and then tell you what you are doing wrong, or what to do to improve your welding technique. This guy is a true TEACHER. He shows all the key points to look for with practical examples beforehand, and starting from this you can experiment and see for yourself. Simply put, pedagogical.
This is soooo much better than any other vidieos I've seen. Especially the clear and detailed explanation and images of the puddles. Not just "position your body and don't hit the slack too hard". Now let's try this and watch again and retry and watch again and... ;-D

Hands down THE BEST Stick Welding Instructional for explaining how ALL the variables will affect the weld puddle and how to approach welds in all the various positions. While this tutorial certainly gives a fantastic breakdown of stick welding I personally feel it was aimed more at those looking to get certified and as such would be far more helpful to people who have already had at least some experience than those looking to get into it for the first time. Even for those looking into stick welding for the 1st time this is still a great video, just a lot of content to take in so reviewing it again after you’ve already gotten you’re feet wet will make everything presented all the more impactful.
I had to watch 40 plus videos from other more popular TH-cam welders just to get 1/3rd of what I was able to pick up from this. This is the only video I'll be sharing about stick welding with anyone I'm helping get started. I've been welding for several years and this helped me so much.

Congratulation with the purchase. I've only been in metal fabrication (welding) for a year. Welding & Metal fabrication is a bit different than my previous experience esp. woodworking. One thing for sure welding is very challenging, for instance I have to deal with warped railing (l didn't clamp the material), bruise and minor injury because of sharp and hot metal; can't construct 3D object with perfection. Now after gain some knowledge and built some jigs to help speed up the fabrication, I'm very addicted to welding. My advice is practice and practice and don't forget about work safety.

Thanks heaps, I’m an enthusiastic self taught home welder fabricating many bits. I can weld quite well but never taught about my bad habits! Funny thing is my profession is weld testing by x ray and sentencing the weld. Many major projects in Oz certified in ASME and Australian standards, no need to to say your welds are very neat and I’ve seen the best. Anyway thank you it’s one thing to understand welds it’s something else to produce them, great help and I’ll try some of your tricks.

A lot of great info but to much to digest in one sitting. I will definitely be back to watch again. Often you don't even know what you don't know ! The short, actual, welding segments were exceptional in clarity and just the right amount of time to see the proper procedure.
