I’m not able to be out, but I have a playlist with a bunch of Sapphic songs. That, and I’m probably going to make pride themed friendship bracelets for my queer friends.
I’m celebrating through my art. I’ve been making pride flag bookmarks that are apparently fairly subtle, I’m hoping to donate them and leave them in little free libraries and such, and also celebrating by making art celebrating my identity just for me
It's not just the Stonewall riots that that made queer people visible & validated, it was also celebrities coming out such as Billie Jean King, Freddie Mercury, Elton John, Paul Lynde. People like Liberace and Rock Hudson never had the luxury of coming out because in their generation it was too taboo.
You’re absolutely amazing and just the person I needed right now. It gets so easy to get caught up in the bullshit of society’s heteronormativity and lack of safe space for our community. People talk so passively as if the dangers we still face are not valid or not a big deal because of the idea that “you got your rights already”
Madam - what do you say to the many Gay men who find the word 'Queer' to be an extremely homophobic, deeply offensive slur? It really is intensely hurtful for many of us. For many Gay men, it is loaded with trauma and triggers intensely distressing memories of being 'queer bashed' in our youth. Because it has become fashionable in certain circles does nothing to lessen the impact of using this term. I would urge you to please reconsider. Thank you.
I would say it's very likely those people are Conservatives, and therefore not having the well-being of the WHOLE community as their priority fast edit: this is purely based on my experience of every single gay person that ever said something like this I have ever encountered being a Conservative and pretty bad on trans rights
I'm reclaiming that word, taking away that power to hurt. But naturally if I'm in a conversation with someone and they ask to use a different term, ok. I want to respect their wishes. But in my everyday life, I'm part of the queer community! 🏳⚧💜
I don't use the term to be fashionable. And I would also submit that there is no term that isn't hurtful to anyone within our community, because of the way that those in the heteronormative world have marginalized and vilified people within the community. I would also say that there are many men who have the same reaction to the word gay, because of the way it has been used against them. I think everything else I would say is pretty well covered in the other comments. 🧡🧡
I use the term Queer and Gay for myself instead of telling every single person I run into my exact labels. Because Queer and Gay sum it up as a general sense.

Currently enjoying a mocktail at a local queer friendly bar and tuning in for this video!

Good Job Kelly, always good to be reminded of how things have got better.
Thank u I didn’t realize uprising was preferred over riot by the organizers. Love the education!

Celabrate, celabrate dance to the music! Keep up the good work Kelly! 🥰
I have a collection of 🌈 striped socks that I wear during June. I hate large crowds, but I’ll attend “small town pride” events nearby…
Happy Pride!!! 🎉

People should send videos like this to that bar owner in Idaho that thinks Heterosexuals are a marginalized group

Queer is our word to use, and is used by many people in our community.
