Great video as always Ziz. As someone who hasn't ever done SSF but has around 8k hours in POE I found this pretty helpful. I haven't played since Incursion and boy the stuff that has been introduced since then has drastically changed the game. Delve/crafting/syndicate, still working up the courage to dive back in.

Nugi, who "just built some defense" still got one shot a few seconds after saying that.

What happened doesn't disprove what he was saying, it proves it more. I lost several characters that league to Syndicate, and then I made a guardian which could afk on a t15 fortification door and come back to the 3 betrayal NPCs dead around my character. Defence was, and always will be the right answer.

On the quality for 6 linking, one important note is that if you are not trying to link a unique, you can use the crafting bench options for more quality. Those are veiled mods, but really useful to push the item to 40+ quality
Do the chaos recipe as it is very useful for buying maps from Zana. Low level maps cost chance orbs, mid level are alchemy orbs and red maps are chaos orbs. Higher red maps can be expensive (T12: 4c, T13: 5c, T14: 7c, T15: 11c, T16: 25c). Your chaos will go fast at these prices.
Pray for RNG. I had a lvl 98 8.5k hp Slayer with good layers of defense and he got oneshot offscreen by some white legion mob who threw some charged spear of whatever. Tier 16 map, mods were acceptable for regular play. That's where I knew "There will always be shit that kills you out of nowhere unless I go for the absolute tankiest there is".
IDK if I'm stupid or something, but I just can't level with mind over matters, I just run out of mana and it feels terrible. I have no idea how other people can just grab it as they go and level with it, even if I try to get mana and mana regen on gear it still feels like I end up with no mana when I need it.
I usually get my first death around lvl 92, 93. Something like that. I've thought about HC but the big no-go for me is that even a short connection lost can kill me and make me start over again. This is just a very depressing thought so I wont even give it a try.
Agreed, being several countries away from the nearest server the lagspikes can get very big at peak hours and trusting my character to that is just idiotic. I do enjoy HC more though because the excitement is so much more authentic you can taste it.
I always have a freeze and bleed immunity flask. I have played HC once, in which I died to some exploding boss who applied a whole lot of burning to me...

Seriously though how is this the first league with vaal side areas in the maps? This seems like something that should have been added in earlier I know they had issues adding them but still. Either way I'm glad we have them.
maybe 3 max in Bestiary none since they make all the real good stuff for streamers playing 12+ hours a day :P Just joking but the RNG is so low imo better to have a lower chance of a good item off a boss you actually see than a good chance to get something off a boss you never see

Ziz L2P - MOM is 42.5% ratio with your life, not 39% :P :P . JK . So if you get hit for 3000, MOM takes 900 mana, therefore you need 2100 hp and 900 mana so its broken. because 900/2100 =42.5%. TLDR: for 1000 life you need 425 mana with MOM. easy.
i usually start every league like "okey this league im going to do everything to not die alot... at brutus i die first time most of the times for some random new stuff they added or merveil xD... or client crashes and end up 200+ at end game after the usual okey im gonna blast through all the t14+ no problem and die suddenly in some map all 6 portals to same mob xD. but yeh i guess should just go for the grind and some deaths in softcore and go extra safe for not dying...
The fun you have is only up to you. From my experience, if you reign your expectations in and have some personal objectives it gets a whole lot more fun. And sometimes it could be a good idea to continue playing your current character on standard rather than starting over.
I don't think the game became more complex the base system was in place. Sure there's more ways to get things done or have fun but the 'rules' haven't changed

In PoE, reduced damage taken is applied before less damage taken - wherein reductions to damage are additive and "less" modifiers to damage are multiplicative. In the case of the fortify change being that you can no longer multiply the flat additive reduction it's a sizable nerf.

The correct fix for this issue is that reduced damage taken should have been capped at 90% like elemental resistances and physical damage reduction for consistencies sake. Why reduced damage taken was immune to this cap is beyond me. Removes the problem entirely of damage immune setups. All it takes are pantheons/ascendencies/endurance charges/flasks to start fudging the math around to effectively be taking more damage in 3.9 than in 3.8 with fortify. edit: corrected wording "reduced damage taken" instead of referencing it as damage reduction.

multiply your life x .39, get that much mana. also if you dont have mana gain on hit/high mana regen itll feel like shit
