I greatly admire older less flexible folks who are willing to do whatever is necessary to accommodate their physical limitations! I helped pioneer the sport of sea kayaking on the East Coast in the mid 1970s and was considered an expert paddler. Today at age 74 after years of not kayaking I suffer from crippling rheumatoid arthritis and getting into or out of a kayak is a real challenge. At first it was embarrassing as I struggled getting in or out of my kayak. But as soon as I was in my old paddling skills came right back. I hope this video will encourage older, less fit, folks to give kayaking a try and I applaud this lady for getting the ball rolling!
Thumbs up, if for nothing more than she actually made it in, without landing face first in the water. I just bought my first kayak, I'm almost 63 years old, and it was such a hassle I told my wife I was taking the damn thing back and buying another canoe. But, this gave me a different outlook, and it didn't sink, which is what I thought mine was going to do. Kudos to the nice lady that showed us how.
This video is pure hope! I have crippling arthritis in both my knees and after a few years of the blues about that am working to get some of my flexibility and mobility back. I love kayaking but thought it was in my past. Thank you for giving hope to those who still want to but have been afraid to try. As my Dad always said “Inside every old person is a young person just trying to figure out how to keep doing what they have always done in spite of uncooperative bodies”.
How inspiring this lady is. I’m 59, Advanced osteoarthritis in both knees. Went in my kayak for the first time a month ago and loved it. Not elegant getting in or out but determined to continue with it. Bought an itiwit x100 because it has the drop stitch floor which is solid enough to stand on and big enough to manover around.
That's great shows you don't have to be this macho athletic type to get into the recreational kayak sport. Very informative and encouraging. Thank you so much making it look approachable.
I love it. We have Kayaks but I am old and chunky and have been afraid to try. My daughter and her family are so graceful, and slim, but I wasn’t graceful or athletic when I was young and slim
I can't bend enough at the knees to get in this way, and I'm tall so balancing is an issue. I devised a way to get in and out for myself. I pull the kayak into the water just under knee-deep ( getting in on the left side) then I hold on to the rim as I turn and sit myself down into the kayak pushing on the far side to keep it reasonably stable. I swing my legs in and get settled. Coming out same thing. using my paddle to tell how deep I am. I swing my legs over the left side the pushing myself up and land on my feet ( keeping the kayak reasonably balanced by pushing on the right side of the rim. The kayak does tip but not enough to take on water.
Thank you, Nancy, for showing us oldsters that kyaking isn't out of our reach. When a person is old and has stiff, painful joints (arthritis) it affects our whole body. We don't bend as easily anymore nor move as fast or have the great balance we once had when younger. We oldsters have learned to compensate by moving slower and being extra careful so if our movement becomes risky, we have time to stop. I think you did great.
My uncle learned kayaking when he was already in his 60s and has been an avid kayaker since. He taught me what i know. It has been my favorite water activity as it complements my skin diving.
Thank you for entering and pushing off on your own. I needed to see that success! Hope you’re back in the kayak again soon ! I’m learning and have arthritis and bad knees but love kayaking the few times I’ve been in.
Nice video, Nancy. Only one recommendation: I'd get a longer one for any adult as it would track much better and generally fit adults better. As an avid kayaker, I love watching all sorts of videos pertaining to the sport.
@@nancytoday6858 that depends upon the cockpit opening. The longer kayak would track (go forward in a straight line) better. Pelican makes some good entry level kayaks for the recreational user that have larger cockpits, making it easier to enter and exit. Just a consideration.
I actually have this kayak just a few years older, it tracks absolutely amazing way better than my brother's 10' brand new pelican. This spefic kayak punishes you for poor paddling or sitting technique with tracking so it often gets a bad reputation. I've run many rivers lakes and creeks when the waters high enough, with it through out the past 5-6 years and I absolutely love it it's my go to in my collection. I even fish out of it with no problem. It's an awsome boat when you use it right.
@@nancytoday6858I'd recommend a sit on top super easy to get on and you'll have a more comfortable chair. Also please keep going! You made my mother and father wanna kayak
OMG 😱 I must confess I was panicking at 1.00 minute in! Really thought you were going to enter the water and not the kayak! 😂 The moment your director started to laugh so did I. Just brilliant. Well done you. 😊
Great example how remarkable is the human body, even as its ability to function correctly is compromised, still it’s able to compensate using any combination of others, ( careful thinking , planning's
I just went to your channel hoping to see how one gets out of the stupid thing, but it wasn't there. Oh well, now I know how to get into my new kayak. I guess even if I get wet getting out, I will at least be heading for the house. Hahaha. Y'all be safe, don't let the Wuhan Monster bite ya.

I know exactly what you mean. My mother is in great shape and can hike for miles. But has to be careful how she gets out of an SUV every time.
Thanks

This was so refreshing to watch showing how easy it is for everyone. Thank you for sharing!
I alway’s love when our elderly people do things that you would think they can’t GOD BLESS THIS BEAUTIFUL LADY.....INSPIRATION she is
Wow, thanks!
Nancy thank you for posting that. I am 64 and heavy but I love to kayak and yout showed me I can still do it

Nancy l like you you're my kinda ballsey lady!! I'm up there on the scale n my knees hardly work any more. Congrats n thanks
Thank you for the warm and kind video. I am a first time Kayak tryer. Greetings from 2022.
I’m going less and less now.
Wow, no excuses I love it! I can barely get in one of those and I am a young spry guy here lol.
Well done! Always nice seeing people get out on the water and this will encourage more to try

I’m 67 and have a hard time standing up to get out now.
Thanks.
Love this woman, I am kayaking due to her !
That is so cool! Doesn't it feel great to skim along amidst all of the wildlife!

I love kayaking too.
Great demo, I thought this was going to be a fail video, but this a win. Nice work with great technique.
Grandma's a damn beast!! You rock
Thanks Jim.
great video to encourage your parents to go out kayaking with you! thank you;) worked on my mum
We grandparents have to stick together.
Like a BOSS!!!
😎👍🏻❤
Ha ha ha
Excellent! Well done Nancy!
Thanks osks
That's great. I'm a fair weather kayaker because I usually end up wet getting in or out.
Lol. It’s so easy to get wet!
Nancy, this is great, thank you very much!
You’re welcome. I hope it helped.
Am quite impressed by how easily she moved that kayak with one hand even though its only small 💪
Thanks. Kayaking is easier after a new pair of hips. And 40 lbs off.
I'm about this size and age and this inspired me to try kayaking!
Yaay. I’m 67 and still doing it. But it’s a lot harder this year.
I love this..she's in her comfy clothes and crocs, throws on a PFD and gets into a kayak

It’s an old one too, but I just made it public again
Thank you! I want to take a Kayak tour of the Antelope Canyon but my weight is hindering me from attempting 😫
Did you go yet?
This had me and my mates rolling on the floor!
Why?
Thanks!
Cos I’m so funny!
What brand and model is this kayak? I keep on seeing it at the dock.
You rock mama!!
Hey thanks!
did you ever make how to get out?
Where I can I find the video of exiting the kayak? That my bigger problem?
That was graceful 😊😊
First time I've seen someone wearing a dress (skirt?) in a kayak!
You had me on the edge of my seat... lol
Lol
👍GOOD JOB👍 I Have the SunDophin Aruba kayak & love it.
Thanks for the helpful tips!
This is very inspiring... thanks
Did you go kayaking?
Lovely lady! She transmit me calm :-)
Well done! Do that once a day for fitness and higher bone density.
I have a sit on top, I just walk it in knee deep water then sit in then rotate my knees and feet

That is a nasty remark. Maybe she always wears dresses.
Let's see some monster waves.
How to fit in a kayak
Lol. I just wanted to kayak the 100 lakes nearby!
this is definitely wrong
That’s the wrong attitude there’s no correct way there’s many ways and you have to find what’s best for you
It’s nice to reinvent the wheel. Try it!
That is NOT how you do it.

More like how NOT to enter a kayak. She took way too long standing in that thing, and could have been injured.
