One of my best friends in the world is a trans lesbian. Her birth family never accepted her. When she came to my state to visit with her wife, I just told her "You are like a sister to me, so my mom is now your mom too." I even introduced her and her wife to my mother. This is a wonderful short film, and I am thankful you made it. :)
@@smair9900 okay this will be me trying to explain. the definition of lesbian is non man loving non man, right? so before a trans woman transitions or realizes she’s trans, she might think she was simply a straight man. because well, she thought she had to be a boy, and she liked girls. but then she realizes what being trans means and is, and connects with it. she realizes she’s trans and comes out, but still likes women. that would then make her a trans lesbian. but then comes into play transphobic lesbians, which we call terfs. they are lesbians that don’t think trans women are women, and that therefore they cant be lesbians. but trans women are women and can totally be lesbians. but not wanting to date or have sex with a trans person doesnt make you transphobic. you can have what’s called a genital preference, where you prefer someone to have either a vagina or a penis. having a genital preference doesn’t make you transphobic as long as you don’t wanna date them purely because they’re trans. that might sound complicated so here’s a simpler version of genital preference vs transphobia: genital preference: not wanting to date someone queer and trans because you don’t wanna have sex with someone with parts you aren’t attracted to, but still respecting their gender identity. an example of genital preference in a sentence: “i don’t feel comfortable dating you because i prefer _____ genitals.” transphobia: refusal to date/have sex with someone purely because they are trans. not seeing that person as their gender identity. an example of transphobia in a sentence: “i dont wanna date you because i only date women, and you’re not a woman because you have a penis.” so that’s kind of it in simple terms,, but if you want me to explain more i can :)
@Formerly Chuck's Sneed what a pleasant individual you are. Harassing a minor on the internet that has done nothing to harm you for what reason exactly? And people tell my quite often I look almost identical to my pfp so suck it.
i have a young trans man in my life. He told me his story and how his mother and family have essentially refused to accept who he is. I told him, as a stranger on the internet, that he was now my nephew. I have helped him, encouraged him, listened to him in ways that no one had ever listened to him. I promised him, and myself, that since I was ostracized by my own family that I would be the person i never had in my life. I'm proud of him. He's doing so well.
The ending though, it's magnificent. Parents should be like this and just learn to accept people as who they are, just like how the dad accepted his daughter..

This made me cry. That army guy immediately accepted he now has a daughter instead of a son. While others seemed to be against her, her own father accepted her for who she is and that makes me so happy 😭
One of the most shocking moments is that initial fear of wondering if he is going to accept her or deny her and his IMMEDIATE reaction of love and support... jeeze.. that just.. got me. >__< For so many people just those two words of hearing their name just changes so much in them and relieves so much pressure and uncertainty and pain from their shoulders. This was just so well done. Thank you for this.
I'm honestly curious, how does this work out in real life? I'm sure a good portion of the military can be fairly conservative especially when hyped up on military machismo, but at the same time it's a father coming back to their family after months or years.
According to the research I did while I was back in college, children whose parents use their affirmed name have a 50% reduction in suicide attempts compared to those whose parents continue to deadname them. Its a significant decrease considering roughly 35% of trans children (in 2018) will attempt suicide.
@@QSaranis Out of curiousity, did your research also cover specifically military families and how military fathers react to it? I'm actually curious how it plays out.
@@QSaranis Jesus, I really hope more people can come to understand this and be okay with it and just let people and even children live their lives and be who they really are! There's still hope out there!!
I only noticed this after watching it years later but I appreciate how the only spoken words are a confirmation of Allie's transition Edit: I should rephrase. Those spoken lines represent, to me, the social transition of trans people, unfortunately often starting with hostility and alienation but ending with love and support from those most important. Of course an upsettingly high number of trans people don’t get this ending but the film is aiming to make that ending a reality for every trans person. So while the first line is a deadname, it is necessary to represent that arc.
There’s also a very quiet “no” when the dad goes to hug Allie. Allie sees her dad for the first time since deployment, and immediately cowers in fear and shame, and her dad’s very quiet “no” while running to hug her was a “no” of reassurance, like “no I’m not upset”
I usually just copy paste my complete disdain for people like you but I have energy today so here we go. This was incredibly touching. It really goes to show how much love and respect the LGBT community needs as a simple two words can make most of us cry. This was amazing and I hope to find more like these.
I’ve seen this many times and it always brings me to tears. That’s unconditional love, and when Allie heard her dad call her by name and accept her you cannot see all the fear and doubt melt away. There are some things you can come back from and some you can’t…you can’t come back from losing your child, and there are no words to describe how much it hurts to bury your child.

I'm a trans girl who's parents are far away. My mother and siblings are extremely religious, and have said outright for over 15 years that they will never accept me for myself. My father was barely part of my childhood, and as an adult was "supportive" only in that he said it didn't matter, but he still uses a name 15 years out of date. That v moment when he said her name, when he said "Allie", I broke down into tears. I've never had that. I likely never will. But with movies like this, maybe more kids will. Thank you.

That’s exactly how my daddy reacted to me when I transitioned. He loves me like a daughter and I’m now grown and I’m 34. A dad’s love for a daughter is so wholesome and truly precious.
Yknow, back when I was younger, ignorant, and a young gun who thought he couldn’t be touched, I always used to say such hanus things about people who wanted to change their gender or be attracted to the same sex. I always would call them “freaks” and not give any of them the slightest bit of attention. That is until the present time. This video along with one of my one of my closest friends revealing to me that he wanted to change his sex from a man to a girl changed my thinking entirely. She told me that she didn’t want to tell me because she thought that I would think of her as a freak and never talk to her again. At that moment I broke down into tears and realized right then and there that the only freak in the room was me. I finally was self aware enough to realize that the hanus things I’ve said were directed not towards “freaks”, but to other human beings with beating hearts, just like me. Just because someone sees a different color than what I see, doesn’t mean I have the right to degrade them for it. I’m riddled with nothing but shame to admit that, but god bless any of you who have the courage to see a different color than what the rest of us see. For being your true self. And you’ll always have support from my corner
Everyone is entitled to their opinion I just happen to think we all should accept our child’s choice to be what they want to be? They are not a freak or so because they feel different? They still need our love and support and yes I would still love my son even if he became my daughter and so on! That’s my business and my wife’s! Thank you for your support!
I saw this video a while back. I know that some people, even parents, may not approve of this, but as a father myself if you love your child and this is what they want then as a parent I will support them in anything. I heard this comment on a TV show once from a parent about their child being gay. They're child was I think in an accident and one of the parents was not approving of her lifestyle, but her father says to ther mother " I don't care if she's gay, I care that's she's loved, I care that's she's happy and that's what you should be doing." It doesn't matter if someone is gay, lesbian, or transgender. We're all human regardless.

This is a wonderful short film, and I am thankful you made it. :)
As a trans gay man makes my heart happy. You are such a great friend 🥺❤️
I can understand being trans or lesbian. But both of them together is pretty hard for me to understand.
@@smair9900 okay this will be me trying to explain.
the definition of lesbian is non man loving non man, right?
so before a trans woman transitions or realizes she’s trans, she might think she was simply a straight man. because well, she thought she had to be a boy, and she liked girls.
but then she realizes what being trans means and is, and connects with it. she realizes she’s trans and comes out, but still likes women. that would then make her a trans lesbian.
but then comes into play transphobic lesbians, which we call terfs. they are lesbians that don’t think trans women are women, and that therefore they cant be lesbians.
but trans women are women and can totally be lesbians. but not wanting to date or have sex with a trans person doesnt make you transphobic. you can have what’s called a genital preference, where you prefer someone to have either a vagina or a penis. having a genital preference doesn’t make you transphobic as long as you don’t wanna date them purely because they’re trans.
that might sound complicated so here’s a simpler version of genital preference vs transphobia:
genital preference: not wanting to date someone queer and trans because you don’t wanna have sex with someone with parts you aren’t attracted to, but still respecting their gender identity.
an example of genital preference in a sentence: “i don’t feel comfortable dating you because i prefer _____ genitals.”
transphobia: refusal to date/have sex with someone purely because they are trans. not seeing that person as their gender identity.
an example of transphobia in a sentence: “i dont wanna date you because i only date women, and you’re not a woman because you have a penis.”
so that’s kind of it in simple terms,, but if you want me to explain more i can :)

Hi this is shy I am using my great grandma's phone I cried when I saw my uncle the day before his graduation. My uncle is now a marine.
I only noticed this after watching it years later but I appreciate how the only spoken words are a confirmation of Allie's transition
Edit: I should rephrase.
Unfortunately also at the beginning, where she is deadnamed by that teacher. Which is juxtaposition of sorts?
Actually the teacher stopping her from the bathroom says her boy name.

Just because your generation was so terrified of persecution that they couldn’t come out of the closet doesn’t mean it isn’t natural. It’s completely natural and suppressing it is actually more harmful
Because they actually care about them, instead of trying to virtue signal. This is not normal. This is not healthy. This is sick, and it needs to be treated
I love how her father sees Allie try to retreat from him, and he's just like "Nonono its okay"
How different my life would have been if my parents had this reaction in 1972 instead of the violent one I got when I said I didn't want boy parts. I cry every time I see this. Thank you.
I'm so sorry. Every child deserves to be accepted and loved unconditionally. You are beautiful, strong, and perfect the way you are. Sending hugs ❤

Allie is a beautiful young woman. She is strong to be taking the help from others that helps her, and to be doing what she can to protect herself from those who wish her harm. She is a real woman.

That’s exactly how my daddy reacted to me when I transitioned. He loves me like a daughter and I’m now grown and I’m 34. A dad’s love for a daughter is so wholesome and truly precious.
I've never seen so many hate comments in all my life
Eh, they can stay mad. Video made me happy cry, and that’s rare, so honestly that’s all I care about
Yknow, back when I was younger, ignorant, and a young gun who thought he couldn’t be touched, I always used to say such hanus things about people who wanted to change their gender or be attracted to the same sex.
Teared up reading this. I’m trans ftm (female to male) and all I can say is we need more people like you in the world. Thank you :)
Heinous?
Everyone is entitled to their opinion I just happen to think we all should accept our child’s choice to be what they want to be? They are not a freak or so because they feel different? They still need our love and support and yes I would still love my son even if he became my daughter and so on! That’s my business and my wife’s! Thank you for your support!
They are a freak of nature
@thisbetheone same with your face
We're all human regardless.
its been almost a year since my dad disowned me for being trans. i came out in january of last year and after a couple months of the silent treatment, he disowned me and we havent spoken since. i remember watching this video when it first came out and not fully understanding it, but now watching it i cant help but wish my dad would have said “Hi, Charlie” to me.
Hi Charlie! Hope your day’s going okay
The truth is, parents should love their kids no matter what job they have, no matter their interests and no matter *who* they are.
You did a really good job on this short film. It's good to see creators making positive stuff like this. Keep up the good work!
First of all, I have a transgender sibling and the film we made is truly touching and meaningful. My wish is that people should not have definitive judgments about the people they know, meet, or give birth to because some things are not lived out by choices.
I’ve seen this several times and I always end up bawling at the end. When the dad rushes up and picks up the kid and says “Hi Allie” it gets to me. Beautiful film
my sister says she is a trans women, I accept but we live in Russian and my parents are conservative, only my grand father accept her, I hope some day my father accept like this father accept her daughter
Awww, not only is this wholesome and heart warming, it's also beautifully shot and performed, graded, edited- really gorgeous piece. Great job to all involved
yeah so fucking wholesome and heart warming;
I love it when kids get corrupted don't you?
@@hereticanthem5652 and where exactly is this so called "corruption" in the video, hm? all i see in the video is an amazing father supporting his daughter for who she is and always was.
Hello dumbfuck, this is a copy paste I’m sure will apply to you. I send this to every ignorant motherfucker I see being transphobic of homophobic. You are the trash of society, you don’t deserve the life that you have and personally I think you should be locked away just for having opinions like that. Unfortunately freedom of speech gives you the right to say these things, however just know that if given the chance there are those who would take everything from you without hesitation.
With love, someone who hates conservatives, religious extremists, and you personally
@@comochinjodesyoutuve Your figures are grossly misrepresented. 40% attempt suicide, due to the way society treats them- not because it's something being trans causes, it's something bullying causes.
This film is amazing, but I don't know what's the most amazing part about it: the brilliant message of acceptance, the part about friendship, how she aced that test but was only able to focus on being dead named, how after years I keep crying when I watch it, or how Allie could even see her dad in her bedroom when he's wearing that camouflage uniform (as a trans woman myself, it's my guess that she saw a floating head and freaked out a bit, I've heard that cis people don't freak out as much about floating heads).
I wish we could “super like” videos sometimes. This is definitely one of the times
