Finally! I have the record, I made the video and now I can longingly look at the moon after hard days of hunting. Just like Scrooge - it was never about the gold. It was about finding it. Did you know such a record exists? Is it any good or not your thing? I mean being the only one of its kind it´s hard to compare it to anything. Now that I´m on the case maybe I should do a video about the comic book itself, too?
@@ShouryPandey-j8p Mine are in Finnish and bought so many years ago I can’t remember where I bought them. English version are sold by Fantagraphics. However Disney has decided to censor some of the key stories of Life And Times Of Scrooge. This means you may not find these books as new anymore(in any language). Don Rosa refused to allow his name printed on book covers if stories were censored. Without those stories the whole saga doesn’t make any sense.
@@analogcomics From you English I can detect you are European but can't decide your nationality. As your mention in reply, books are in finish so is that mean you are from Finland
I was lucky enough to meet Don Rosa this year at my first Comic con. Heroes con in Charlotte, NC, on my birthday no less. He was such a sweet man. He was even disappointed I didn't bring my entire collection for him to sign. Sadly I couldn't lug so many books with me. He really loved having a chat with anyone who sat at his table. I was born in Kentucky and it was only until my late teens did I hear about "The worlds most famous Kentuckian" was famous because of my favorite thing in the world, comics. Thankyou for this amazing story and a bit of knowledge on a music culture I wasnt aware of.
Don Rosa often tells the story how when in Europe there is a chaos in front of his desk and when in USA it´s really quiet. He says often most of the fans he meets in US Comic cons are from Europe as they rather fly to USA to avoid the 2 hour waiting lines that they would have to endure in European festivals.😅 You are very lucky. I have never met him. He has visited Finland but to meet you´d have to stand in a queue longer than I have patience for. Then again I have always wanted to visit those big US comics festivals. Maybe that would be the easy way...
Nice idea this record has soundtrack for comics. The simultaneous listening and reading must be an ultimate for a immersive experience!!

Thank you for this video, I just recently discovered that this music existed, I loved the Don Rosa stories growing up, only stories that made me laugh out loud. Now I have the collectors edition book and then diving to learn more about the music. Great stuff and thanks again 👍
In my opinion humor is the most difficult genre. Usually funny comics only make me smile but Don Rosas deadpan humor always gets a laugh and at least giggles. This music adds yet another interesting layer to already multi-layered saga. I’m always happy to hear readers finding this awesome music-bonus.
Thank you for putting together this album review, I thoroughly enjoyed hearing you're views on this album about the life and times of Scrooge. I too was trying to get ahold of a copy of the vinyl for years, but it was like gold dust, I wrote to EMP so many times to ask if they would produce some more at some point, as it has become my favourite piece of music of all time and I wanted so badly to hear these incredible creations on record. Like you I was so lucky to grab a copy online and so pleased they finally re-released this album. Coming from the UK we never had Uncle Scrooge coming, so I had no idea about TLATOS until Tuomas released his record, which open a whole new world for me. Don Rosa is a genius just as Tuomas is 🙂
Yes, this is quite an extraordinary record - in so many ways. It´d be nice to get more music like this from Holopainen. Not sure what his plans are as Nightwish is recording a new album but there will be no touring to support that. Is that the end of the band or just a needed break as there are health issues within the band and babies on the way, too. You never know what type of music pops into existence in times like that. I´m happy you found Don Rosas work despite it being hard to get in your market. I don´t think anyone could foresee someone bringing that much emotion into duck stories. Don Rosa always remembers to mention he is only contributing to the work Barks did but in reality he single handedly revitalized the series. It´s only fitting that this long running characters have at least two masters/genius keeping the flame alive. And I do hope there´ll be more in future. Duck characters have endless potential for good stories.
They truly are. This happy surprise got me back to Ducks after a long pause and I’m enjoying it. It also awakened desire to get some of those old Floyd Gottfredson Mickeys, too. I feel like there would more to say about the Life And Times…comics too.
I only discovered this record about 2-3 years ago. I've probably listened to it hundreds of times on YT while reading comics, it's the perfect background music, for me at least, while reading! I know that Iced Earth did an album for Spawn with Todd McFarlane doing the cover too.
Spawn is one of my blind spots in comics. I don´t remember reading any Spawn stories. I have no particular reason for that as I really liked McFarlanes Spiderman style when I was young. But not really knowing Spawn that well I´ve never took the time to listen to that Iced Earth album. To take this thought further, in 1987 Anthrax had a song called "I am the Law"(Among the Living album) which - of course - is a direct tribute to Judge Dredd. Then a Finnish powermetal band Beast In Black is heavily influenced(pun intended) by Berserk manga series. The band name, first album name(Berserker) and many songs are direct reference. It seems that metal genre for some reason can sing about comics and still remain respectable in the eyes of their fans. But none of the above - I think - quite reach the pleasant madness as an idea that a soundtrack for a particular comic book does.
Just got into DuckTales and i already like scrooge. He became my favorite character of all time now when ive read "the life and Time of scrooge mcduck" and all i could say is, it was a masterpiece. Scrooge story is insanely executed that you can see the hardship in hes journey and appreciate why he loves hes fortune soo much. Scrooge is such an inspiring and badass Character and can't believe im soo late in discovering this duck stories. Toumas soundtrack is also great, their songs r meant to be for Scrooge story. Would really want to collect duck comics, but cant find any in my country 😟.
It's never too late to get hooked by Ducks. Welcome to Duckmania! That is the magic of those stories. I liked them as a child and now even with grey hair I read and enjoy them. Easiest way in is to remember two names: Carl Barks and Don Rosa. They are very different in style but I think it only makes reading and collecting more fun. May I ask what country are you from? In case you are able to order from other countries Fantagraphics has published both Barks and Don Rosa stories in very nice hardcover collections.
Then it´s perfect timing as the vinyl has just been re-printed. I believe the first printings were sold out so soon because Tuomas Holopainen has gazillion fans through his work in Nightwish. Those fans are really hard core and they want to own every piece of music he makes. Many vinyls went to homes not familiar with the comic book. I believe that was one of Holopainens goals too as then there might be more people interested of the actual comic too.
Disney removed this year two Don Rosa's comic from colletions - "The Richest Duck in the World" and "The Dream of a Lifetime" from "Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" book - so it remains to be seen if that comic book will be reprinted anymore..
I heard about this and it´s just silly - in more ways than one! Don Rosas initial reaction was to demand that they leave out his name from the book if they actually do this. It´s understandable as taking away Bombi story the books become hard to understand as it´s one of the key moments in Scrooges life. Not sure if Don Rosa has stood his ground but of course there is not much he can do if the powers that be in Disney Ivory Towers decide something. I try to avoid politics so I just say that people behind these ideas really do mean well. It´s just that the solutions are ridiculous and often counter productive. I don´t believe that Disney as a corporation cares about the comics at all and they represent so small part of their business that it doesn´t matter if Don Rosas book sell or not. I don´t have any evidence for this but this is how it seems from outside.
While Life and Times of Scrooge is considered as the pinnacle of Don Rosa I´d suggest to start from his other collected editions if you are not that familiar with the characters. Escape From Forbidden Valley for example was something I enjoyed a lot when first reading Don Rosas Ducks. It´s all adventure and gags and show what the Duck stories are about. And it highlights the type of deadpan humor he does. He has obsession to make unbelievable settings and inventions work in a manner that is scientifically correct. Like the laws of physics etc. It´s very different from Carl Barks´ style. Life and Times...- I think - works the best once you are more familiar with Scrooge as a character. I hope this helps.
I have the record also, for several years already. I did a short video on both the record and the books about 2 years ago (it's in Dutch, but maybe still nice to watch: th-cam.com/video/-rW1ECc4re0/w-d-xo.html ). The book(s) itself I find really great! I really love to see how the young Scrooge grows up and gathers his fortune. And how the lesson in his young life, when he gets his first dime (in Dutch it is called 'geluksdubbeltje', I'm not sure how that translates in English), play a role in his life! On that note: a while back I made a video about Bombie the Zombie, as I read Disney is banning him and there this lesson also comes into play, as Scrooge breaks his most important rule and has to face the consequences...oh man, there is so much in this story! Very cool to see you now have the album! Enjoy it, it is indeed very beautiful music.
Dutch really is my Kryptonite when it comes to language😅But you have so much interesting stuff to show that I spy your channel every now and then. That Dutch coin name sounds like "luck"something. In Finland it´s often called The Lucky Coin but as Don Rosa states it clearly dont´ have anything to do with luck as Scrooge made it big with his own skills and hard work. But that "luck" thing is basically part of Finnish vocabulary today so it´s here to stay. Not sure how much the Italian Duck comics has to do with that name as they have their own way of doing them - like Italian flavor. Leaving out Bombie story is just silly decision. One of the most important and pivotal moments in Scrooges life.
A great loss indeed! I find Don Rosa's works a perfect gateway for children to get into reading comics and reading in general. It's perfect also in the sense that its content only gets better as you age and find completely new meanings from the stories.
