The synth itself seems very generic but fun to play. The sliders are basically drawbars for most of the presets and it seems like patching isn't too bad. I don't really see the point of having such high polypholy if you can't stack patches, or have multi-timbral keyboard splits. It's also a little to expensive for the super plastic casing. Loved hearing you play though!
@@NoirEtBlancVie I had no choice really. I already had this on my list of wanted synths. Part of the reason starting at 2:40 of your excellent video btw. I was like "oh look at that". Clicks buy, then back to looking for dinner recipes....wait what did I just buy? lol
I liked the opsix from earlier this year that was 49 or 61 full-sized keys... altho I was hoping for DX7 patch SysEx file compatibility (like the Volca FM... and even better--extra credit for TX81Z patch support.) I was ready to throw out my main MIDI controller! The best news is now I am not filled with angst about worrying about trying to sell my MIDI controller. Still, looks like a cool little synth and I can see the appeal for many.
the synth looks very nice but there are some things I don't like: -to small! 61key or desktop version -no aftertouch -too simple envelopes. only ADSR and not the more complex, traditional fm synth envelopes -it should have a non-endless knob for filter cutoff and reso. it seems you have to turn way too much for a filter sweep. those are my thoughts. what do you think?
The dealbreaker for me is the poor support for DX7 patches. If you're going to create an FM synth, at least support DX7 patches, which nearly every person buying an FM synth will want. I know it technically does, but it doesn't look like it's a simple operation. Maybe, when they update the OS, there will be better support for DX7.
In the key of C you’d press. CDEG 1st, 2nd, Maj 3rd and Perfect 5th of the scale for any key really. It’s like a sus2 chord, but the 3rd makes is fit in a progression as the root better.
"I like this": 5 times + 1 "you guys like that?" + 1 "I like them all" Do I win a teddy bear? 😂 For real though, I like when you try something different. Even if it doesn't work, I appreciate the A/B test approach to your content. Always ends up landing somewhere interesting and unique. Whether the OpSix is a good value is certainly debatable (for me it's not), but your comment about knowing how to use an instrument is spot on. Jeremy @RedMeansRecording made 16 minutes of killer cinematic music with it, with custom patches, and no talking or review that anyone interested in the OpSix should check out.
I was thinking of a gear like this years ago, but with a real 5 octaves keyboard. Just about your channel name, if i can suggest something, the good way to write your name in french is "La vie en noir et blanc". French suggestion ;)
Awesome demo Noir. I love the interface and the sound design potential seems really vast. As many have said though, the choice of 37 keys on an FM synth with lots of polyphony seems like the middle of nowhere. The prototype tease had more keys. I wanna see if they put out a module or a 49 or 61 key model. Do the keys have aftertouch?
Man! You get to the heart & soul of a new machine in 10 minutes, where Loopop needs nearly an hour to do so. No rain on Loopop tho, I love his super-didactic and thorough approach too, and his mission to squeeze more voices out of a piece of kit than you thought possible is commendable. I always watch his vids. When I have the time... Question for you, Noir: developers all across this ball of mud have decided it's time for FM again. Do you agree? I'm personally on the fence. There's no 'Africa' this time around, and in my personal opinion FM peaked with Alexander Brandon's work for the first Deus Ex game. Hong Kong, Tracer Tong level...! FM, in its popular implementation, it's jez too much of 'almost like the real thing' for me, when synth sounds can be so much more... and, in all honesty, it's pretty difficult to do sound design, simple interface or no.. That said, I don't really have access to real bona-fide church bell sounds when I need them in any other way. What's your penny?
I love how velocity sensitive modulator output levels makes an FM synth respond to soft and hard playing. For me, multisampled stuff just doesn’t get the same feel. I like to layer FM stuff on top of sampled stuff.

How many drum kits come with it? I want to make some DnB and trance music i need my drums. Lol
Cool synth but at the price i want more keys....
Nice stuff ! 🚀 🥷 opsix most underrated synth. Wooooo
It kinda is, FM was totally done right here!
@@NoirEtBlancVie Agree, great demo too as well. One of the best i have seen.
Just snagged one on Reverb for $330! Can't wait!
You got lucky! I heard they went fast!
You seem very centred in this! Thanks for the review :)
the synth looks very nice but there are some things I don't like:
-to small! 61key or desktop version
-no aftertouch
-too simple envelopes. only ADSR and not the more complex, traditional fm synth envelopes
-it should have a non-endless knob for filter cutoff and reso. it seems you have to turn way too much for a filter sweep.
those are my thoughts. what do you think?
Aftertouch FOR SURE......as its something that can be 10x as expressive in FM as we would usually see with a subtractive synthesizer. No bueno.
@@u4yk the patches won't be the same because of the simpler envelopes opsix has.
i want wavestate and opsix in desktop format - those small ( bad action ) keys are not worth the real estate in my studio
subbed! excellent content
Would you choose the Yamaha reface dx or the korg opsix?
Unfortunately I’ve only used the OPsix, but, for this price…it’s too expensive for me, not matter how good it sounds.
Really nice machine!
Smooth AF! More music theory and chord progression how to's please! 🎹🎶👍
You don’t want me to get that nerdy 😁
@@NoirEtBlancVie Why not? Go for it! I bet there's a good overlap between your subscribers and Rick Beato's channel, for starters...
@@NoirEtBlancVie +1 for music theory!
@@NoirEtBlancVie +1 for this, would love for you to share your perspective and experience
That chord change @5:26 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Please explain those chords. Love em! E9?
In the key of C you’d press.
CDEG
1st, 2nd, Maj 3rd and Perfect 5th of the scale for any key really.
It’s like a sus2 chord, but the 3rd makes is fit in a progression as the root better.
love u bro
Mine arrived today
A lot of good sounds.
I LIKE THAT
"I like this": 5 times
+ 1 "you guys like that?"
+ 1 "I like them all"
Do I win a teddy bear? 😂
For real though, I like when you try something different.
Talked to Sweetwater representative yesterday. Opsix discontinued. They let the last ones go for $329.
Lesson: browsing the deals section pays off
Wait, they still had a couple left? 👀
The other explanation came yesterday, I ordered before the rep knew. He called it a unicorn
I was thinking of a gear like this years ago, but with a real 5 octaves keyboard. Just about your channel name, if i can suggest something, the good way to write your name in french is "La vie en noir et blanc". French suggestion ;)
I couldn't hear the hats
yea, synth is cool but I want to cop this jacket, man
Awesome demo Noir.
I totally agree! Give it to me with more keys or as a desktop so I can use my own keys!
that Nike jacket is fire
Moog Grandmother almost same price range. This should be 599 to compete with others
they're two totally different synths?
I like that
it was love fm
I like to layer FM stuff on top of sampled stuff.
oh yeahhhh
"You guys like that?"
Why did I feel so dirty after you saying that?
feel like it could go further with modulation - I'd like to see looping envelopes and the modulation processors from the Wavestate, cos I like the alien FM sounds. 👽
Good shit
