    Finally, finally, an audiophile dude that is actually playing music on their stuff instead of making love to it and playing all these boring sleepy acoustic stuff..and great music bro and yes it sounds awesome even through my headphone.

      It’s a good point. I’ve always been put off by demos because ‘audiophiles’ play the simplest and slowest stuff they can find. Music that would sound good on a cheap boombox. To me, a speaker system isn’t any good unless it can reproduce the problem areas like saxophone and female voices at volume. Meaning loud. If distortion remains low in the midrange at a healthy volume THAT’S a speaker I want to buy. Don’t give me quiet jazz that’ll sound good on a crappy Bose 301.

    Fantastic sound. Watched few times with decent headphones on to get the idea. It’s sweet. Was soo cool to see big speakers move in previous video. There’s more to this then just sound. Visual effects are just as important. Always liked the look of large paper speakers there’s something in their design that’s so attractive

    Excellent recording! Your system sounds awesome.
    Tight and deep bass. Clear but not shrill treble. Nice.
    I too have a DIY open baffle system, with DSP bass management on 3 x non-mirrored (this is critical - it makes use of their comb effect to even out the room nodes) powered subwoofers. With such a bass end, the sound does not change if one moves around the room.
    To listen to your video I am using a pair of Superlux HD-668B headphones equalized with the Android (only) Neutralizer app by SoftwareHut (give them both a try!)
    Well done.

    The stage on these must be incredible, this binaural recording over my headphones produces a stage so large that it makes the stage from my current speakers look small. I've listened to tons of binaural recordings and only heard a couple before that sounded as vast as this.

    The open baffle towers are amazing. Transparent, clear,accurate and larger than life in spl. Yes the Fink track we were at the concert in the front row with better than concert sound reproduction. You can hear every word and nuance, totally revealing sound. The sub bass thing is present, we hear it. In my personal testing open baffle subwoofers almost do the job. If you put the sub thing with the open center up to a hole in the wall or floor then you could quickly test if you like it better open or infinite. As usual thanks for sharing Peter.

    WOW just WOW! That bass is just superb. Those AE woofers really are some of the best & don't even cost TAD or greatplains levels of money. The midrange was super clear too I thought with that many 15" woofers going around creating some of the fastest bass i've heard in a youtube demo everything else would be just garbage but man. What a sound and that too just on youtube imagine how itll be in person. Granted I was listening on my lovely yanyin canon 2 so theres that.
    Ps the 2nd song was just mind blowing how the sound literally traveled to the top of your head & to the side wtf? INSANE.

    I'm so glad to see you play Infected Mushroom! They have the highest quality electronic music I know of. I heard they mixed some songs with 200 channels, it's nuts. I believe their goal is to massage the brain, as it were, with their music. Some of their dubstep is a bit dumb sounding to me but their collaborations with singers and other artists have been awesome.

    I didn’t know you were into home Hi-Fi. I’ve been designing some open baffle stuff for my desk. I have some ribbon tweets and some drivers I picked up years ago that I will use and a tube amp. I use a Lepai right now that has been rebuilt with solid state caps but I have a ton of gear including a couple rack mount amps from the 70s. The current speakers I use are vifa tweets with hi-vi drivers and Phil Harmonic designed the crossover. It’s all hand built. Sweet setup bro!
    I’m listening to your video on my Pioneer Elite Amp and Elite Andrew Jones Atmos speakers and that sounds so airy and almost like you’re in front of the artist even with the mic you are using to record the sound. Maybe one day we will be out your way and we can check out the shop and this setup. We are in California now.

    • @jamesoneil9757

      These recordings do a remarkably good job of capturing the room response, standing LF, reverb, etc. Even an iPhone mic captures this very well. I think you may be misunderstanding what’s being measured. As explained very well by the author, room interactions and the way the open baffles interacts makes a profound difference, which is certainly audible here.

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Be careful with these mics as above a certain SPL level they start to distort very badly! An acoustic gig maybe fine, but a band with proper PA and heavier bass will definitely kill these Sennheiser mics.

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s certainly so impressive even through a recording as i run this system fully active with a DSP. If you do Atmos, then you’ll need low level RCA outputs for the DSP that you need for your active speakers. It can easily becomes complex and expensive if you want all speakers fully active. I’d probably only run the main L&R fully active plus the sub through a DSP, so it can be tuned properly with an RTA mic too.

    You mention not molesting "too much" the signal. Would you be willing to share more details on the signal path with what's done where ? My motivation is that I want to build a pair of open baffle speakers, and I am seriously considering building yours ! :-)
    Regardless, I look forward to more of your experimentation with home audio.
    All the best.

      patrice aubry i said it wasn’t molested as much as i have a DSP for signal processing to run the system actively and I didn’t use many EQs. I have 31band on each channel.

    I finally see the correct distance between the emission centers of the respective speakers and the frequency range assigned to them! Good boy! The dipole question could be deeper. Is it okay to add 50% “reverb” sound in the room when the correct amount of reverb is already present in the recording? 🤔 Then how does such a system behave towards "fire", that is, the system's ability to correctly position the virtual sources in the environment? 🤔

    Sounds awesome Peter very clear and such tight bass. I do have a question though what product have you used to convert the signal from the amps to the speakers as the impedance would be different from home audio to car speakers i believe

      lee hey there is nothing between the amps and the speakers, only few meters of OFC cable! 😃
      Midbass and mids run on 4ohm, tweeter is 8ohm iirc. Subs are 4ohm too.

    That was real nice Peter. Definitely got some great integration for all three drivers that comes from a single baffle set up like that. Great depth in the stage, even just in ear phones and the timing sounds lovely with great low end snap when needed. Just a question for discussion, with open back baffles, obviously there's less mass there, how much of an effect do you think that has/would have since they're not going to be as rigid or heavy as a full cabinet design? measurable difference? I'm thinking from the point of view of people mass loading cabinets for deadness, even pouring concrete in them or sand in speaker stands. Any thoughts on those things? I haven't got any concrete or sand in my own! ha!
    I see Erin at Erin's audio corner trying to be extra nerdy over measuring etc but the set up and environment just negates a lot of the measuring he's doing despite his best intentions with it all to try and be super clinical. You can't take a precision instrument and then put it in a cluttered room full of things and expect labratory conditions for accurate measurements that can be reliable as some sort of bench mark reference point. Don't know how he can't see the contradiction in the set up. If it sounds good, it sounds good.
    I really like hexibase channel too as he has some excellent testing for drivers in all situations.
    I should also add, It's brilliant to upset the 'home only' audiophiles as they are so stuffy and closed in their approach to systems and cabling (dont get me started on that snake oil!) etc. I enjoy car and home audio just like you and it definitely brings a lot more open mindedness to setups. I'm sure you know what I mean.

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Peter the first video i took was scraped as i put the nerds believing in such snake oil sh.t on spot too much and I didn’t want to cause too much trouble! I’m already using a DSP in fully active and car audio products, which is more than enough for them to swallow, let alone the dirt cheap amps + wiring!? 😃
      Regarding boxes: well, when you have to deal with the backwaves in a cabinet, then you truly want to kill all resonances, so the sound only comes put of the driver. With OB there’s not much you have to worry about any of that, other than making a rigid baffle (I wouldn’t say mine is quite there, could be improved, although the sub structure is solid as hell) and of course room placement & treatment! That’s where the lazy ones fail instantly! Pulling a credit card out of the pocket is not enough in this game imo! 👍🔊🔊

      @@pssound9749 haha! I'm not surprised they were choking over the previous one then! I did think the same since you have taken the time to put the bass traps in behind and they're huge along with treating the room too. I'm sure its also very 'breathy' sounding in person. A good friend of mine is a professional music (specialty in saxophone) teacher and I hear him play all the time and it's an excellent audible reference point when you hear a system try to recreate those difficult raspy instruments with lots of resonance that can really show up colour in a system. That saxophone track sounded sweet. Look forward to the next video. I have my own a pillar builds to keep me busy for now with those audible physics drivers to fit. Ever fit any around an a pillar air vent like in volkswagen passat??? very awkward.

      You don’t need that vents on the pillars if you’re worried about that, the winscreen blows everything off, maybe it takes a touch a bit longer, but it works, i have the same in the Honda! 😃

    Nice demo, makes me think of the $120k IO Design Naked RS, a little bit crasy for what you get 😆They've probably seen your version before getting inspired! Oh no, that's right, they have custom-made AEs (just like the rest...) and unique type of aliminium...
    Quick question, the dipole 15 AEs mounted in the baffles, do you apply a hi-pass to them, given that you use the IB15AUs as subwoofers? More than 10 years ago, I made a pair of OBs with Alpha 15As, 2 per channel stacked on top of each other, with hardly any baffle, maybe 5cm above the drivers, and it sounded pretty good, without going as low as yours (more like 40Hz).

    I’ve been an audiophile for nigh on 50 years now and never embraced headphone listening but things might change now I’ve heard this !! A hugely impressive audio system and binaural recording. I use hybrid ribbon speakers by danish manufacturer BKS and like your system has zero cabinet colouration.👍 that was a superb play list too. I bet VCMG “ssss” would sound fab on that too. What sort of cost would be looking at for your speaker set up ?

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cost of speakers for the stereo pair + subs is ~ £4000 here in UK, plus labour and material.
      DSP is £1750. Amps were cheap + lots of TLC.
      Setting them up in the room is XY amount.
