Through the power of empathy, your enthusiasm transports me right there to your upbringing. Jesus, you're a great storyteller. You're so captivating because you're so captivated. Your channel is constantly sublime.
I played that game to death and could almost do it with my eyes closed. The joy it bought has never been matched though it started a lifeling love of gaming.
It is a very comforting channel, consider watching his annual Christmas videos with his buddy Rob, if you watch them in order it's an emotional rollercoaster.
Yeah I watch him to relax as well. I think it's the passion and positive cozy vibes. Also the way he displays his collection behind him is so retro and nostalgic
Chrono is my favorite game of all time. When you just hear those iconic tunes it brings you back to a certain time of your life. Just a timeless game 🙂
Started playing the original Doom. Most definitely 10/10. It is incredible to see how fun a game can be that came out nearly 30 years ago. Makes me wanna play more retro FPS titles.
I actually enjoy puzzles in video games so backtracking and searching the maps do not bother me that much as I am used to it. Although I can see why that would be so frustrating, but I think the game is fantastic regardless.
I would have to have Metal Gear Solid on my 10/10 list. Before buying it I was hyped up by all the magazines at the time, but once I actually got it home and played it I was enthralled. The sneaky gameplay, the story, the characters, the music, all of it just pulled me right into that world. When the roller coaster was done and the credits were rolling, I just felt incredibly satisfied. Then there was the end credits tease, and I realized I could play through again with a special item I had unlocked and that was all she wrote. I ended up doing two playthroughs back to back, which was kind of rare for me. Kojima and his team made a masterpiece with Metal Gear Solid.
The golden trinity of Samus, Link and Mario on Super Nintendo is just pure diamond. And I also agree on SOR2 - might be the greatest beat 'em up ever made.
I never hear people talk about this game but for me Shining Force II on the Sega Mega Drive/ Genesis is a 10/10. It's a perfect video game with a killer soundtrack. Timeless classic!
Definitely, Dragon Warrior games on Nintendo is what first got me into RPGs but The Shining forces games, especially #2, really locked me into being an RPG fan4life. It's been a long time but there was some really good characters in Shining forces 2 if I remember correctly... 🤔

I 100% agree. COD4 did change a lot. But what started the online multiplayer change before COD4 was halo 2 and halo 3 (of course counter strike too). But COD didn’t continue to be great, just like halo didn’t continue to be great. Halo started at 1 and stopped at 3. CoD started and stopped at 4.

Cosmo Canyon's catchy tune still plays in my mind to this very day. Great video 👍

I would like the remake it would bring in new fans like ff7 remake did they could use the dragon quest 11 engine and I want extra content on the guy with the scythe and his sister
I just recently discovered Ninja Savours on Switch after my friend saw I wanted Ninja Warriors on SNES and told me it was expensive and I should pick up the new version lol. Fun as hell and dirt cheap physical!
I just love these episodes! Appreciating amazing pieces of art. The golden trinity of SNES RPGs Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger and Earthbound All three easily 10/10 games.
Great episode! I love listening to you talk retro games. Very good list Johnny! These are my 10/10 retro games: 1. Chrono Trigger 2. Castlevania SOTN 3. Super Metroid 4. Final Fantasy VI 5. Streets of Rage 3 6. Doom 7. Super Mario World 8. Super Mario Bros 3 9. Earthbound 10. Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium
Star Fox 64 is a 10 for me. It has so much replay value. I must admit i'm not a huge space shooter fan but this game is just so expertly crafted. Just replaying the game finding different levels is so cool.
I got Revenge for my B-day too!!! Thats the day I BECAME a gamer!! Great challange even better music awesome batman, spiderman, terminator and Godzilla appearances! 3 was even better!
Awesome list bro!every game that you mention in this video I have it in my gaming collection but on top of that these games that we played brings back a lot of great memories.

As someone currently replaying Chrono Cross, despite you giving that game some love, I still got slightly triggered when you went off about a Chrono Trigger 2 having Crono with blue hair hahaha I was like poor Serge, so underappreciated! ;P All jokes aside, love your input and commentary and a Chrono Trigger Remake would be pretty sweet assuming they got the proper love and treatment. My personal 10/10 game is a little game from Konami called, Cybernator. I enjoy the game to this day. Great mecha design, fantastic music and contols. Beaten it many many times throughout my life.
I'll say Links Awakening DX for GBC. Absolutely maxes out what the Gameboy hardware could do. The visuals ever charming and impressive. Controls very accurately, swiftly and smoothly. The music sticks with you. Just a whimsical world to visit and discover.

I get excited every time this man drops a video. To answer your question, I have to say Ape Escape for the PS1. Lot of fond memories with that game. Also was one of the first games to utilize the use of the PS1s analog sticks
Ninja Saviours was the first game I bought for my Switch! I absolutely adore that game. The combat is fantastic and very addictive. I simply can’t get enough of it.
Hey Johnny, thanks for your old school anime videos, it’s was nostalgic remembering all the anime greatness from the old days. And thanks for talking about Arion as much as you did because I’m really interested in it and and have already ordered a copy of it from Rightstuf. Cheers brother.
Super Castlevania 4 is easily a 10 out of 10 game for me. Great control, tough but fair making it the best in the pre-Symphony era. Tecmo Super Bowl, also 10 out of 10
Super Mario world is pure perfection, the colorful visuals and the audio are timeless, I first played it when I was 8 years old and still have the same experience when I play it now at the age of 38. Link to the past is up there aswell.
I asked for streets of rage 3 for Christmas one year, parents got me SOR 2 (only had the first one up to that point) Looking back, I think they did me a solid on that one!
For me a 10/10 retro game has gotta be Mega Man X4. Easily among the best in the series right next to the original X. Gorgeous 32-bit sprites, a rockin’ soundtrack, and ultra tight controls. A great game to go back to time and time again. Sadly it was the last good X game, but hopefully Capcom will reignite the series properly in the future…
As soon as I saw the title John, my knee jerk reaction was "Chrono Trigger"! Legendary game, incredible music, the best design, fun characters, the price tag of $85! Memorable and amazing, so happy I was there to experience it in its time 😉😁😍 We NEED, NEED, NEED a remake, or please a SEQUEL!
Great video! Totally agree on how important a great soundtrack is to a 10/10 game. The first game that always comes to mind when talking about a great soundtrack and sound design is Mega Man X2! That game is in my opinion a Mega Man game at it's finest and an absolute 10/10 for me. Also has the coolest bosses and weapons in the series for me, and of course the gameplay is as solid as ever!
Solid list. I played the crap out of all of these when I was growing up in the 90s. I haven't played the Ninja Warriors remake from the beginning of the video, but I do enjoy the fact that there are developers making new games in the old style. The Chrono Trigger soundtrack is one of the best ever in a game. Yasunori Mitsuda poured so much of his talent and effort into making it and it definitely shows. One more addition that would have been on my list is Super Metroid. I think it is the pinnacle of the Metroid series even to this day. The controls are so tight, the gameplay is superb, the music is atmospheric and perfect for the isolating vibe the developers intended. I remember being blown away at the 3D effect of Ridley flying toward the screen at the beginning of the game. It was groundbreaking stuff and the game is one of the main inspirations for the whole Metroidvania genre.
I needed to discover 10 / 10 retro games this morning by Happy Console Gamer. I was just playing Bubba N Stix on Sega Genesis pre morning coffee. Not the best way to start the day.

I loved the 3rd one. Can't remember what its called exactly (Dixie's Double Trouble?)
Again, the score was amazing, "Stickerbrush Symphony" is one of the greatest ambient tracks of all time

Thanks for the heads up on “Ninja Saviors”. I’ll definitely be picking that one up!
I asked for streets of rage 3 for Christmas one year, parents got me SOR 2 (only had the first one up to that point) Looking back, I think they did me a solid on that one!
SOR soundtrack for life!!! Listen to at least once a week. Amazing how it still stands the threat of time
I think Super Mario 3 is a definitive 10/10. An absolutely perfect video game.
Every day you upload brings a bit of happiness to my day. Thank you.
X4 is diffently amazing I love playiny over and over never get tired of it
For me it will always be X1 .
THIS!!!!
As soon as I saw the title John, my knee jerk reaction was "Chrono Trigger"!
Legendary game, incredible music, the best design, fun characters, the price tag of $85!
Memorable and amazing, so happy I was there to experience it in its time 😉😁😍
We NEED, NEED, NEED a remake, or please a SEQUEL!
SMB3, FFVI and AlttP are all 10/10 classics for me.
Metroid Prime and Outrun 2 are the only PERFECT games I've played
I needed to discover 10 / 10 retro games this morning by Happy Console Gamer.
I was just playing Bubba N Stix on Sega Genesis pre morning coffee.
Not the best way to start the day.
