The Reformation's Effect on the Family with Kimberly Hahn

  • Popular Catholic author and speaker Kimberly Hahn takes a look at the effects of the Reformation on the understanding of vocation in Western Christianity- especially its impact on the understanding of marriage and celibacy. Hahn also looks at how the individualism and relativism that accompanied the Reformation's fallout has led to a gradual and ongoing erosion of the traditional family.

This is the most complete and excellent defense of marriage within a Christian context that I've encountered to date...and I suspect that I'll never encounter another one that surpasses or parallels it. Kudos to Kimberly Hahn.

I am sorry that I didn't found videos from Croatia translated into English but
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_Croatian_constitutional_referendum
imagine how the church defended this initiative and videos in Croatian are sooo good!

Beautiful! It really touches my heart whenever I hear people like the Hahns share the TRUE ESSENCE of the Catholic faith, people who TRULY understood, studied, and lived the teachings of the Church. I pray that every Catholic individual will study his/her faith and find out the reasons why the Church teaches what she teaches FIRST (using authentic and unbiased sources) before dismissing them and thinking by themselves that it is okay to not obey them.
Every Catholic should reflect and ask himself if he TRULY believes that the Catholic Church is DIVINELY inspired (THE Church founded by GOD) because if his answer is YES then he should be FAITHFUL to Her (follow all Her teachings because not obeying means he knows better than God). If he does not believe that the Church is divinely inspired, then there is no point believing in anything that the Church says INCLUDING the Bible because it was the Catholic Church that compiled it and declared the Bible infallible.
I pray daily for the conversion of our separated brothers and sisters because it is truly heartbreaking that we are divided when Jesus Himself earnestly prayed before he was crucified that we be One. It is sad to know that many Christians ignore Christ's REAL presence in the Eucharist when the angels themselves, with all their glory, do not have the privilege of consuming the body, blood, soul, and divinity of our Lord Jesus.

Many reformed and Presbyterian denominations condemn abortion except for extreme circumstances and divorce is only allowed for adultery and willful desertion. The catholic stance is stronger and isn’t afraid to talk about all of the “exceptions” that some people think they might have.

Thanks for posting this, especially now, with all the confusion over Amoris Laetitia. What it points to is the obvious fork in the road. A smaller Church with witnessing practical believers' vs. a looser more inclusive umbrella of peoples desiring Catholicism without the Fullness of Truth.

Thank you for your well researched, documented and presented lecture.
The breadth and depth of your presentation is wonderful and means I have to go back and review it again.
You stated something to the effect can we imagine the RCC saying we have enough members so we're not to evangelize any more.
Yes, I can. The Diocese I live in has an Evangelization plan. It was developed in the last century and there is no person (Priest, Nunor laity) assigned to work the plan. How do I know this? I looked on their website and called the office and asked. They confirmed the website.
This situation would seem to be the precursor for a death spiral.

    Bravo!
How deep I love and respect my mother! And think how our Lord Jesus love his Mother! I venerate my mother as she is and how Jesus venerate his Mother as She is! All humanity trust and venerate Jesus as GOD and Savior. How can we reject Mary, Mother of Jesus, the sinless one by immaculate conception if we really venerate Jesus! NO, we can't. Pay respect Mary, Mother and woman must be kept in all human male kind in the world.
    Reject Mary is rejecting Jesus!
    God bless you Kimberly!

I wish I would´ve had a chance to hear this (or had at least one person in my family sharing this truth) when I was growing up. Now I am a Catholic thank God, converted almost four years ago, and I am trying to teach these truths to my young adult children, as best as I can. It is a challenge. Thank you so much Kimberly.

Quick question. Under Mosaic law, illicit marriages (for reasons that would result in annulments today such as kidnapping, fraud, etc) would result in a divorce, NOT annulments. It seems that in marriage you couldn’t unring a bell. Even if your spouse was kidnapped, they would still be REALLY married. But canon law says that these aren’t real marriages at all.
