  • This jam track is based on the early Pink Floyd track A Saucerful of Secrets by Pink Floyd, but the chords are looped in a way that makes sense for an extended jam! [B Minor - 60 BPM]
    The chords to this are:
    Bm G F# Em D F# /
    Bm A E F#
The track is basically B Aeolian, except you can use Harmonic Minor on the F# and you should change to Dorian on the E chord, since that is the Dorian IV (instead of Em that Aeolian gives you).

I've long said that the Storm Signal and Celestial Voices sections of Saucerful were an absolute masterclass in how to create and resolve musical tension, so having this to play around in is quite welcome indeed. Gilmour (rightly so) gets a lot of the glamour when it comes to Floyd, but stuff like this really highlights Rick Wright's essential presence in the band.

So glad you pointed this out, Theniyaal. If this isn’t a perfect chord progression, it’s darn near close. Rick Wright: the true hero of this piece!

Once again, great backing track. I love these floyd type tracks, they are always very open and give space to a lot of experimentation which is in turn doing wonders for my progress as a player

That new Design is a perfect progress. It is easier to follow up on a new track but it doesn't change the unique visual atmosphere of your videos too much. I love it, though i always loved and still love the old style and slight variations of it, too. I really dig your style and your art. Many of your tracks that I have played to are not just a 'background music' for me but also inspire me while I am playing to it.

are we not overthinking this stuff? It's very cool to watch -and play along- the chords and notes fly by super duper fast!- but I think about this and then I see Jimi playing it upside down and I feel like I just dropped an extra tab too many of that old Owsley acid. It literally hurts. So waddy think? Are these wizard players just geniuses or they just see things I don't?

EDIT: I was at a party and did not realize this was an abridged arrangement. I have notated where the break is. Given the chunk that is used in this arrangement, Bm all the way through until the F# and F#7 chords works best (at that point swapping to B harmonic minor). BUT, in the context of the original arrangement, I contend that the way I have it mapped out for the original 16 measure sequence works very well, so, below, I have these scales notated. The bracketed part is not present in this arrangement.
    END EDIT BLURB
So. The main part after Storm Signals is a 16 chord progression. Lots of modal interchange and altered scales. I did the heavy work and mapped out which B scale you should use in each chord. I tried to compartmentalize some of the shifts which is why I only pick one possible scale per chord/measure:
[[[B Dorian scale ----- chord: Bm
    B Dorian ----- A
    B Dorian ----- E
    Bm #7 (Aeolian #7) ----- F#
    Bm (Aeolian) ----- D
    Bm ----- G
    B Dorian ----- E
    B Dorian ----- A
    Bm #7 (Aeolian #7) ----- F#]]]]]
    Bm (eh #7) ------ Bm
    Bm (eh #7) ------ G
    Bm #7 ------ F#
    Bm ----- Em
    Bm ----- D
    Bm #7 ----- F#7
    Bm #7 ----- F#7

I always think in terms of which Lydian scale because it is the brightest mode and its fretboard shapes are the most intuitive:
      D Lydian
      D Lydian
      D Lydian
      G Lydian #2
      G Lydian
      G Lydian
      D Lydian
      D Lydian
      G Lydian #2
      G Lydian #2
      G Lydian #2
      G Lydian #2
      G Lydian
      G Lydian
      G Lydian #2
      G Lydian #2

V7 to Im is just the simplest way to loop the progression. Plus, many of the people here… driving the channel… are novice/intermediate improvisers. Anything beyond 1 modal shift leads to a lot of unwatched video.
Appreciate your work breaking this down. I am just trying to make some fun tracks for everyone to jam to.
