What a fine group of musicians. The 70 produced some the greatest music ever. I've seen Marshall tucker back in the day along with Charlie Daniel's. It's always great looking back at all the fantastic music these people produced. Thanks for sharing.

My favorite band of all time !
Saw them live four times. Best show was the first one in 1978
To many favorites songs to pick one.

For me, 24 Hours At A Time and other songs, live at the Johnson City Civic Center in the late 70's. What a time we had. We snuck in booze in our socks. High, drunk, it was fantastik. Toy and the boys played different when live, they rocked it and countried it at the same time. Forty five years ago and I will always remember.

Oh man, live "Can't You See", the flute!!! How unique. Always goosebumps to that song. You know it's good when Waylon covers it. My Rainbow album was about wore thru with plays. The cover and the vinyl. Partied so hard to that band!! What a wonderful tribute to a talented musician and veteran. RIP ❤As always, thanks Doc 🐎

My favorite is If I Can See You One More Time. I learned to play it in my back yard and my neighbors loved it, they thought I wrote it. I told them where it comes from and created more Marshall Tucker fans.

I've been playing it for about 40 years and everyone loves it but most have to ask who did it, or is that one of mine. A great song just like the rest of their music.

I went to high school with Tommy. We were in Miss Gosnells music class.Tommy, Doug Gray and Jerry Eubanks were all in the high school chorus. Tommy was on the basketball team and the golf team. I remember the first time they played as "the Marshall Tucker group" on a flat bead trailer at the old Star light drive in theater in Spartanburg S.C. Tommy was recently home from the Marines and had a brace on his leg up to his hip . Franklin Wilkie was still playing bass and Tommy was playing rhythm guitar with Toy's Gibson les Paul. Doug was still sporting his Army haircut .

You're welcome! Tommy had one of the first jacked up 4 wheel drive pick up trucks. A canary yellow 1958 Chevrolet Apache body on a 4 wheel frame with over sized tires.

Thanks for this video Doc! One of my favorite bands I never got to see…
Sad that Tommy and Toy both died too young! I liked their Carolina Dreams album, Melody Ann, and Can’t You See- live, the most. But they played a lot of great music that I always go back to when Something’s Missing in My Life….

As I've previously stated on other videos saw these guys open for the Guess Who in 1974. They got called back three times. Been a lifelong fan since as all of us at that show became.
I always thought other than Toys smokin' leads it was Jerry Eubanks versatility on the saxophone and the flute that gave them their unique sound.
Favorite songs are Southern Woman, A New Life, Fire on the Mountain, Searchin' for a Rainbow, Take the Highway. But all their albums are gems start to finish.

    My fave Tucker song...
Like asking me my favorite bourbon.
The words at the bottom of Tommy's stone are from a Tucker song.
If you don't know which one.. you'll have to listen to their entire discography to find it.
Not a bad way to spend a rainy weekend.

thanks for the wonderful dedication to Tommy. Saw 6 or 7 shows over the years in the early days with Charlie Daniels sitting in. Some of the finest memories of my youth came from these shows. Used to get up as close as possible just to watch the unique style of playing. Standing near those Marshall Amps at the stage was so loud. huh?

Love MTB and their live version of 24 Hours at a Time with Charlie Daniels on fiddle is epic! Sadly the current version of MTB is no very good as Doug Gray has lost his once great pipes. One of the few shows I left early from. Great tribute.

In the 70s I Saul Marshall Tucker maybe 10 times every time was different. I saw him three times with toy and to tell you the truth. I don’t understand why toy Caldwel isn’t even considered as one of the greatest guitar players of his time.

Doug Gray once said the Band was at their peak for Tommy’s last shows which is the Live on Long Island Album. They were live on NY’s WLIR FM for the Friday 4/16/80 show My friend taped it. I’ve probably heard it 1,000 times in my life. Tommy introduces all but four tunes in the show, three of which were encores. My favorite, from that show is Take The Highway.Another great song Tommy wrote was sadly, You Don’t Live Forever from the Long Hard Ride album. Great solo from Toy on it. Toy was never the same after losing Tommy.

Thanks for the added info. And I agree Toy and basically the band was never the same. I think he was a much bigger part of that band than many of us realized. Thanks for watching and your comment.

    Favorite songs are,
I should’ve never started loving you and tell it to the devil from my favorite album Carolina dreams! (Edit:) A few words about Tommy. Some bands just get lucky and have that one anchor member and Tommy was it without a doubt. The band , at least tried to carry on but carrying the load and emotional trauma forward was just too much. Such a great band that I still listen to often to this day. Thanks Doc! Another great segment. Love MTB.🎶
