    I've been craving more creature comforts on my camping trips now that I've hit 70 and I've been looking at trailers. Really enjoyed seeing what you've done there.

    I saw the recent video you did where you dropped your bike, it looked like a really tough ordeal. I got my right hip replaced two years ago, so I bought a trike. I plan to buy a trailer exactly like yours, and set it up much the same. But plan to pack some gold panning equipment and a small sluice. So camping, fishing and gold panning for a month or so in Colorado is my hope for this summer.

    You mentioned a Dutch Oven. I'm planning to take my Dutch oven with me, but I don't really want to wait for it to completely cool off before packing up to leave. Do you have any advice? I've considered mounting a box to the trailer to keep it in. Currently I'm thinking about a high temp mat on the top with some metal hooks so it can cool of on the lid of my Lumina them move to the interior.

  • @richardedwin5980
    @richardedwin5980 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great video. Appreciate the tips. Got a few questions. What size wooden spacer did you put on the back the tanks and what adhesive did you use to attach them to the tanks? Second question, were you able to use the stock screws that came with the mounting plates or were too short? And last but not least did you use the Rotopax extensions on the mount? I’m kind a confused as to their purpose. Thanks for the video. My trailer is set to arrive next week and this will be a great mod.

    • @SteveOutdoors
      @SteveOutdoors  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I glued some 1x2 strips (3/4 x 1 1/2) with a little rubber mat material where it's up against the trailer. I glued them with liquid nail's. After a year or so one came loose and I glued it back with J B Weld. Stock screws worked because the mounting bracket is unchanged, the extensions are on the jugs themselves. The Rotopax extensions are for adding a second jug to the outside of the current jug. I did buy one and an extra water jug, but to me it just stuck out way to far for my personal taste.
      Hope this helped! Enjoy your trailer. I've really enjoyed mine.

    • @richardedwin5980
      @richardedwin5980 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SteveOutdoors man, thanks for the insight. Which liquid nails/job weld formula did you use? And do you remember where you got the rubber? Oh…and did you cut away the carpeting on the inside where you put the washers and one more thing…did you apply the silicone on the outside of trailer or under the washers on the inside? Thanks again.

    • @SteveOutdoors
      @SteveOutdoors  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If I had it to do again I would go ahead and use JB Weld to glue it since the liquid nails came loose. The rubber came from a rubber yoga mat that I bought to glue down on the floor of my kayak. I had saved the scraps and I used that. I didn't cut the carpet on the inside. I did however use some really big washers for more holding power. And silicone? Yes, anytime I drill a hole in my trailer to mount something I put silicone inside the hole itself, on the outside, and on the inside. Be liberal with the silicone. Don't want any leaks. Knock on wood, with all my modifications I haven't had any leaks.
      This link shows the yoga mat I ordered as unavailable but anything like it will work: amzn.to/3PDMuSr @@richardedwin5980

    • @SteveOutdoors

    That about a 28 Qt cooler? About how full do you keep it when you are riding? It can affect that tongue weight for sure. Would an insulated cooler twice that size be to much weight?

    • @SteveOutdoors

    • @SteveOutdoors
      @SteveOutdoors  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@richardedwin5980 when I first bought my trailer I did notice it said 80 psi. That seems like a lot so I ran it at like 60 psi. After several trips, I noticed very uneven wear. It was probably bouncing because it was too much still. When I looked up the tire to see what I needed to replace them with I noticed there was a recall on the tires. So I contacted USA trailers and they sent me two new ones for free. now I run the tires at around 35 PSI and it seems to do a lot better.

      @@SteveOutdoorswhat brand are you running now? I’ve considered spending the extra $$$ and getting the radial tires. I had a trailer prior to this and never had an issue with non-radial tires. Just wondering if it’s worth the extra coin for the higher speed rating etc. I have NO desire to experience a blowout at highway speed!!! Yea, 80psi seems awfully high imho. At what speed do you usually tow at? I try to keep it around 75mph. Got the Rotopax on order to do what you did. And I followed your mod of putting some D ring tie downs on the front of the lid. @@SteveOutdoors Back in the 80's, I constructed a trailer and made a receiver hitch for my then FLH Shovelhead. It pulled it like a dream even in the mountains all through the Blue Ridge Parkway. I even ran down one of the long hills in Virginia on the interstate over 90 mph behind a damn Semi. Pretty stupid but the trailer and I studied how to build trailed perfect. But I don't care what kind of bike you have, it puts a lot of stress on that machine especially the belt and tranny. Today, I ride a trike. It is one year old. The first thing the dealer ask me before I took it out of the store, you going to put a trailer hitch on it. I told him NO. To each his own. Many people pull trailers but I won't anymore. The Tri Glide will haul a lot of stuff.

    • @SteveOutdoors
      @SteveOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jerryhubbard4461 I'm sure it does give more strain to the bike. But I'm spoiled to it when camping. It only adds 40 lbs more weight to the bike. Way less than a passenger. The most strain is when started off from a dead stop. But then again I can pick up the tongue with one hand and pull it all around the parking lot. So yes to each there own but for me it's definitely worth it for the extra sleep comfort and cooking abilities while camping.
      Keep the rubber side down. Have a good one.
