Great video! Looking to do an 8.8 swap in my Volvo 240. Using the 3 inch angle iron, combined with checking the bearing using the axle shaft before welding is a great idea. This method should help me keep costs lower, as I plan on using a junkyard 8.8 myself. Only complication is the 240 has a 4 link design, but I am able to pick up pre-made weld-in mounts for 240s.
I follow you step by step and it came out great on my 7 2 duster. The only problem is what should I do about the front being drum and 5x4 lug pattern. The rear is 5x4 1/2
The goal is not just to narrow the rear end but to also eliminate the c-clips and install larger outboard bearings. This method isn't the best solution.
What leaf spring plates did you use..what size rim and backspace is it..what's tire size. I'm wanting the do the same thing on my 70 Dart but I'm installing a spring leaf relocation kit in first..
The problem with the way your doing it is there are no C clip eliminator kits for the explorer 88. if you were to put 9” ends on it and then use 9” axles you can have better axles and get rid of the C clip for 450 bucks in parts.
The c channel idea is smart. Ima give it a try.

Cool, making schitt happen 👍🇺🇸
Always makes it look easier than I’m sure it is. 👍
Thanks for tuning in!
@@piratejetgarage where did you get the second short shaft axle? You order it new or just had one laying around?

Where did you get the second short side axle tube? Thanks!!!
Rockauto and Summit have them cheap.
Only shorting 1 side axle tube makes driveshaft off center. Not to worry ?
Ford rearends are offset to passenger side 3 ". Therefore it'll center the pinion by doing this.
how much will you charge to narrow a 8.8 that I have ship to you . boost applications

What did you pull that axle out of?
Did you use 120 or 220 machine to weld it?
Is the Ford 8.8 stronger than the 8 3/4?
Not sure for certain. But it is bigger

True but the rotors keep the axle in there if the c-clips come off or the axle breaks.
