I hand-reared an orphaned Raven a few years back. They are extremely smart. And affectionate to those they bond with. But I don’t think you mean “compassionate” because they’re not - they are opportunistic predators and will happily eat smaller birds.
Noisy Minors nest in the tree in front of my window and regularly raise their young there.
One of the local Ravens will go right up to the nest an devour the newly hatched babies while the poor parents flap around trying to stop them.
It’s just nature doing its thing.

SO glad I found this. I befriended 2 baby crows & their mom out at the farm I used to work for. I watched them grow to maturity & watched as they learned the lessons their mom taught them - the most repeated one being " Don't go too close to the human!" They went from mama's little angels to daring to defy her to being leggy & smart & beautiful by Fall, after spending all summer flying around after me all over the farm. But what shocked me with surprise was when I began to see them sitting in the trees along the highway waiting to see me driving in to work. I never believed it was possible for them to get so used to me or how attached I'd get to them.
    I miss them.

That is why, when I get my bird rescues each year, I am careful not to let them IMPRINT on me, and I make sure they know they are birds, not humans, by mixing them with other orphaned birds and disabled adult ones in outdoor aviaries. It's so important not to let them get tame, or they will never be able to have a life back in the wild where they belong. Only time to be with them is for feeding. Then no petting, no talking or cuddling them. Once they feed themselves have no contact with them for a few weeks. They soon go 'wild' and are scared of humans then, and can be set free. The guy in the video did it all wrong, unless he just wanted a pet crow, but that is him being selfish, not out of kindness or an intention to 'rescue' a bird.

I had a pigeon like this. He mostly perched on the porch light. Came into the garage during winter. When i got on the school bus in front of my house, he'd always fly out, and land on the roof and ride the bus with us until it got about a half mile to the faster road. As the bus got up to 45 mph you could hear his claws screech down the roof of the bus. This was every day going to school for me. Bird also like to bully the cat by box slapping his face. He was always horny and tried to hump your shoe or soccer balls, etc. He'd get bored and fly out in the yard, do a barrel roll and come back as if to just show off his trick.

I think it was a starling...
And this video takes me back to that time.
My starling acted this same way, when the day came to let it go.
For well over an hour, it flew up and down my street, onto rooftops of the neighbors homes, and many times right back to me and landing on my shoulders or arms.
Birds are very smart, and they too have feelings.
