    Carbon isn't just about the weight, it can have a lot of vibration damping and comfort benefits. Carbon seatpost and handlebars can do wonders for you on long rides and rides on rougher terrain.

    • @FernandoHernandez-jw4yy
      @FernandoHernandez-jw4yy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem is that they usually look terrible. They're always black and often have weird, over-the-top designs. And for carbon frames, forks and wheels (I know you didn't mention those) the lack of durability is also a problem. I would love to have a carbon seatpost, but I want it to look like a normal aluminium seatpost. I also want a silver-metallic colour option. As we all know, it is possible to paint carbon so it would be possible. It's just that nobody wants to make thos, probably because most people who buy carbon want everyone to know it's carbon.

    I've got a 2017 Soma Rush frame. My 700x28c RiBMo tires just barely clear. Maybe you could fit some 32s, but you might run into issues brand to brand. It's a nice ride. I have the 59cm size frame, and I wish I would have gone down to the 57 (I am 6' with 32" inseam). I've taken it on some 50+ mile rides and it's been a dream for that, I haven't had a chance to try it on a track yet, but for a daily commuter, I prefer my Fyxation Eastside, mostly for the tire clearance and I don't feel as bad about beating it up on Milwaukee's streets with potholes everywhere.

    Reynolds 725 is chromoly steel. But it's heat treated and seamless and therefore stronger than standard 4130 tubes. What all this means for weight and ride quality is just that the tubes will be somewhere between 0.1 and 0.2mm thinner.

      @@mikaelimran3399 , personally I don't see much reason for going with the Mataro, 130 more for an aero seat-post and a supposed more aerodynamic frame. The Cordoba is of a better build and much nicer design than the website led me to believe. I have yet to ride it as winter snow and subsequent ice are still in full swing where I'm at.

    You can get a carbon seat post for $30 and if you ride high it dampens road vibration better than aluminum. Plus weight savings.

    • @richardbently7236
      @richardbently7236 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They make MTB frames out of carbon, you're telling me people ride their seatpost harder than a MTB frame? If you ride your seat that hard I would only assume you would gain pleasure from it breaking....but all joking aside, people ride their seats that hard? I've always stood up on the bumps.

    • @richardbently7236
      @richardbently7236 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @BeboSaab good link, but aluminum and stuff breaks all the time too. But thinking about it longer I bet people buying carbon tubes and over torquing with no grip tape or anything would lead to a lot of broken seat posts. I still think a properly torqued carbon seat post to someone who stands going over the bumps would last the length of a bike.

    • @richardbently7236
      @richardbently7236 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @BeboSaab Understood. I can only speak from personal experience. My properly torqued and installed carbon seatpost has never failed me.

When I ride i dont get knee pain but if i do something high impact like running my knee will hurt like hell. My gear ratio is 46t and 16t. Idk if riding has to do with my knee pain or what i should do about it.

    I never did long distance on my fixie, maximum 80 km in a day with it, but just days with an insane amount of commute. It's an good but shitty looking old steel Peugeot frame and fork with low/middle of the road components. Perfect for locking in Paris.
    I use my gravel bike for long distance, it's versatile, comfortable and racy enough (I've done crazy 16h rides on it because I felt like it at the time). And honestly, I don't see myself biking more than 5 or 6 hours on my fixie, but I should try to borrow a good one for a long ride.

    We're feeling a drop in popularity amongst the fixed gear community out here on the east coast. Recently the Red Hook Crit in Brooklyn was cancelled. Yes it's bit of a shame but honestly for those like myself that have been riding fixed gears since the late 90's I'm glad to see that the fad is moving on. Those who follow trends are only looking to remain relevant. Those who ride out of love are who I want by my side. My reasonable priced bike is a Dolan Pre-Cursa. My favourite ride however is my Steel Frame Colnago Pista.

    I've been introtuced to fixed gear mostly by you, thanks for the nice advices! I bought a cheap steel frame, repaired it swap the wheelset for some halo + pannaracer, and now I'm hooked !!! I would like to invest a little bit to buy myself a alu frame (for all the benefits, threadless fork, more easy to swap components than my bike from last century). I've had my eyes on the constantine brand, they are quite expensive but I like their street style. Would you maybe have some cheaper alternative with good quality? Thanks for all your work, you're quite the reference now !

    Great video as always ! Don't stress too much on your content, the quality is always here.
    Also, I'm curious about what instrument you play.

    Your are a very talent person. I don’t know your education, but you already have an instinct for economic theory.
