Thank you for the comment. Sure thing I can do another video in the future showing the system in action live. As for your question... If I'm using the EAD as the main drum sound for the PA I simply take a jack lead from the other output of the splitter. You can see the splitter in the mono out of the EAD in the video. That lead then goes to the bands mixing desk. They then send that sound to their own in ears and also to the PA speakers. Whats great about using the splitter is that if the drums need extra mixing to sound right in the room from whoever is doing sound, it doesn't affect what's coming to my ears. If it's not being used for the live drum sound for the band i still use this system as my own monitor mix. That way I don't need any drum sound coming back from the bands desk. If i want the drums louder or quieter in my ears i just turn the knob. Hope it helps!
Hi Mike, I have copied your inear setup with the EAD and MG06, but as a novice drummer, all goes well with PA and EAD sound connection with the band etc, but I need to active the "click" metronome button on the EAD to hear this with the incoming music through the MG06?.. can you advise how I can obtain this please??
4:20 Plastic adapters break and they put unnecessary strain on the PCB solder connection. Why not plug the module output directly into the mixer and feed FOH with an aux?
Ah, I see... the MG06 doesn't have an aux send... Okay fair enough. At least get a custom adapter cable made up. This will be more robust than a plastic splitter and it will produce less strain on the output jack of the module.
Yeah, I did some digging and there's a real dearth of small mixers with a pre-fader aux. The Soundcraft Notepad-8FX has one and it runs on DC but it has no input pads and it's a little bigger than your MG06. There's also the Alto Truemix 600 and ZMX862 which have similar compromises.
Hi, what do you mount the pedal train onto? I've got a music stand but it's not secured and it's not quite the right size. I'm just wondering what you use to put it on when you play. Thanks.
This is brilliant and I'm one of the many trying to emulate with my EAD10. I fished through all of the comments below to discern the power cables used to connect the Coiks and the EAD unit. Am I correct that you were able to use the provided cable bundle with the Coiks to power the EAD and the mixer? Thank you!
Loved the video, as someone that is new to in ear setups this was a clear video. I have got the small behringer mixer is there a way it can be converted from AC to DC or is rhere an alternative power pack that works with AC mixer and DC ead10?
Could you put ead straight to front of house desk or do you need something in between to boost signal? Im using mine to mic drums then getting line back from headphone out FOH Desk for rest of band and EAD, which I'm Mixing thanks.
Hello Mike, Great video on the IEM. I do have a question about the EAd. Could you run just a single room mic to capture the whole band and it's mix from the EAd to the mixer out to the monitor? I only needed the one mic for very small venues. Any suggestions would help tremendously! Thanks
Great description! I do the same with a bheringer mixer. Have you tried using the the headphone out into the mixer instead of the splitter on the mono L channel?
Hey, thanks for the comment. I haven’t actually. At the time when I put it together I don’t think I had a cable the right length and I just never changed it!
Hey man! Super interested in this setup - I use an EAD on gigs too but am looking at getting a mini mixer like this too. Would I be able to split click and track from the desk (perhaps via a DI box), potentially an overall feed from the desk, and also have the EAD in my ears? Thanks for your help!
Really helpul video, thanks for putting it up. Just bought an ead and ordered exact same desk !! Would another cheaper type of power supply block work ? I don't need usb link and Ciocks powerblock seems a really expensive unit just for ead and mixer. Looking at other similar looking units in Amazon for around £40 - would they do the job ?
Great video and thanks for the detailed explanation. It looks like you split the dc power from the EAD into the GC7 with an adapter into inputs 1 & 2. Is there a reason it cannot go into just one input? Also, I love your pedal stand and tablet stand attachment shown on your Instagram. Can you please post info on this or a link? Thanks for figuring all this out and sharing it with us!
Hello, Thank you for the positive comments. The EAD is plugged into 2 inputs of the Cioks DC7 because it needs both. I emailed Cioks to ask whether I could power the EAD from the DC7 unit and that's how they said it should be done. The DC7 comes with different coloured leads as well which do different things. I would suggest contacting them directly to ask. The tablet stand I use is the Hercules DG320B Tablet Holder. The Pedal Board I use is the Pedaltrain Metro 16 which i put onto a music stand so I can adjust the height to be comfortable while I'm playing. Thanks!
dude. this is brilliant. I just ordered literally the same setup with the EAD10, board, and power, but I also got a DI box. which power chord are you using for the Yamaha mixer form the power unit?
Thank you for the comment, the desk is being powered by one of the green Cioks cables. The output from the power brick is set to 12DC500. Hope that helps!
Great video. Question. I have the EAD module. Doing a show in July. Just ordered some decent Moondrop 3 IEM’s. I’ll be firing off backing tracks with a click via a Mac. Do I need the desk at all or can the sound engineer just send me the band, backing track? Does he send me the drum mics too or do I just use the EAD mic to hear my kit?
Great video! Thinking of building this for myself. Is there any updates on your rig? My idea of using it would be to get more consistent sound in my ears and I wouldn't be sending it out to PA as I usually play gigs with drums fully mic'd up. Will I be able to just send the click out from this to rest of my band and/or how would I go about it? Would I need something like boss db-90 or can I run the click for everyone through the EAD10?
Hello Mike. I have the same set up, used it at rehearsal last nite and my mix was horrible. I'm guessing I was because the mix from foh SUCKED. do you typically use the hi pass filter and/ or the pad filter on channel 2 from foh? Thank you
Hello! I have the same setup (yes, I got the idea from you!) the question is, I spoke to a guitar guy I know and he says the cioks is not running enough power for the units. Yours seems to work fine for you? Can you elaborate? I would like to give the power supply a go, but at what they go for price wise, I'm concerned I will have problems.....thanks!
Great video, and have an EAD10 coming in soon and putting together a similar set up. Couple questions 1. Do you use the click on the ead live? If a smaller venue uses the ead10 input. Would the click come through their PA?
To run through an interface you would just need to connect the outs with jack cables into the interface. Although you can just usb straight into your computer and it will work as an interface.
Hi Mike. Great video- thank you for that. Where did you hide the big DC plugs for the mixer and EAD? I didn’t see them plugged into the power brick. Thanks!
Hi Bruce, thank you for the comment. The EAD and Mixer are plugged into the Cioks DC7 underneath the pedal board using the leads that come with the Cioks. All very neat and compact!
Hi Mike. I’m putting this rig together at the moment. I’ve sorted the mixer, pedalboard and the ead10. Im just looking at power options. One question I have is do you get enough of the band in your IEM’s without putting them through the main desk? Im hoping I will get bleed through the ead10 as we don’t often mic up the bass and guitar. Thanks in advance.
Hi Morton, thank you for the message and it's great to hear you are putting a board together for yourself. Yes you can get enough bleed from the rest of the band. You can change this as you go using the the mic settings in the EAD. You can alter the gain of the mic and trigger really easily. I do this every gig actually to make sure I'm not overloading the unit.
What type of music (Rock, Jazz, Metal, etc. ) do you use your EAD10 for? Im guessing some Blues because of your reference to Blues Bros Band, but my question to you is this: How do you prevent feedback from stage amps bleeding through the XY mics on the Bass drum's Sensor Unit/Trigger? Great video!! Thank you!!
Hi Mark, sorry for the late reply. To reduce any feedback on stage you need to watch the gain levels of the mic. I have the screen on the whole gig and if i see the gain going over unity I turn the mic gain down. Also be careful using the compressor live as it can cause feedback. I have the compressor on the first dot and it's enough. I use it for all music types, I do a lot of work for tribute acts which can be anything from rock to blues, jazz etc. This unit works great no matter what.
Hi Mike, great video. Is there a smaller Cioks (DC7) Power Supply unit, I`ll probably only have a mixer and EAD plus maybe one other power output. Thanks
Hi, thanks for the comment. I believe there is a DC5? Just double check it has the outputs you need. I think the DC7 is the one which has the USB charger on it which is a reason why I bought that one. Let me know how you get on! Thanks!
Thanks Mike, I used in ears with the EAD for the first time last week. I just had a feed back from the band mixer to the aux in on the EAD it was ok but not ideal. Can you get the band mix in both earpieces in your setup .
Hi mate, thanks for the question. I actually take the click out of my set list app on my iPad and plug that into the 3rd channel of the desk. If you have a look through the comments on the video you’ll be able to see some people have configured the EAD to send the click out of the headphone output if that’s what you’re after.
would it be possible for you to draw a diagram so I can se where to connect to P.A. And to a wireles IEM. for P.A is it the to output on the mixer (XLR) ? I had exactly the same setup as yours
Hey, thanks for the comment. I don’t have a diagram I’m afraid but I hope this helps… The PA gets a feed from the splitter out of the MONO output of the EAD. You should be able to see in the video when I show you the back. My IEM’s come out of the phones output of the mixer. I don’t use wireless IEM’s as it’s set up right next to me. The monitor feed of the rest of the band goes in to the second channel of the desk. Cheers!
Hey. Thank for the video. What exact cables do you use to connect the ead and mg06 to the power supplier? Want to do the exact same as you myself but I’m totally ignorant about it . Thanks!
Do you know the power consumption of the EAD10 and the MG06 ? I would like to do the same but with another power supply as the CIOKS 7DC which delivers 1A per output.
Hi, thanks for the video. Much appreciated. I have a question. Why do you use a splitter in the output mono if you’re only using one patch cord? Thanks
Mike...does running this setup effect anything a sound engineer may do with their own miking and mixing for FOH? Basically can they just do their thing? This is exactly what I have been looking to do. Capture great sounds from the EAD for my own drum mix and blend it with a send of the rest of band from house mixer.
The way I have it set up doesn't affect the FOH at all. This is why i put this together with the splitter, gives me complete control of my in ear drum mix without affecting FOH.
@@MikeKeaneDrums Hey Mike, so do you just take the cable from the drum wedge and run it directly into the MG06? If so, do you tell the sound guy to mute the drums so that you're only getting the rest of the band from your FOH monitor mix and then your drums are strictly coming from the EAD, or do you like to have some of the drum mix from FOH as well?
I've got a question. I have an MG10, and my mate uses a separate amp. We only use the PA for my kit and vocals. How would I go about hooking up the bass amp and guitar amp so I can hear everyone through my in ears but still have sound out of the amps.
In a best case scenario the amps have an additional DI output from which you can run a cable to your mixer and put guitar and bass DI signals on different channels. If the amps don’t have DI outs, you could put your own mics in front of the amps to get your own signal. That’s obviously more expensive and more hassle.
Thanks for the comment. No I tend to go just over half way for the volume of the EAD. It’s a balancing act with the mic and trigger sensor to not over do the signal.
Excuse me dude, This setup is not to making drum cover (video) right ?? I have been asking to those people who made a drum cover with ead10, and that just need ead10 connect to handphone, I don't see a mixer, would u tell me?🙏🏻
That would work too. I already had a splitter and short patch cable so did it this way. I also didn’t want to menu dive during a gig to turn the headphone output up or down without affecting the main out to the desk (if I’m using the EAD for the drum sound at the gig). Thank you for the comment!
@@MikeKeaneDrums There is a setting in the EAD‘s menu that lets you set the main outputs to a fixed volume. Then you can use the volume knob for your headphone volume without affecting the main LR outputs.
Hey, thanks for the message. I’m using a guitar patch cable to go from the splitter of the EAD to the desk for my in ears. The desk is purely for my monitoring so I can EQ the drum sound to my liking. It’s also so I can take a monitor feed of the rest of the band in the second channel. This way I can adjust the volume of the drums and band separately to my ears without affecting the FOH sound. I take a lead out of the second output of the splitter coming out of the EAD which goes to the bands mixer. This way they can EQ or change whatever they like and it doesn’t affect me.
I maybe dumb... But i ordered the ead10 (it's currently in shipping)and in my head i made up the idea of using the headphones out for my in ear en entering the monitor from front of house into the aux. Then i can mix the two of them, without need for a extra mixer.... That should work to, doesn't it?
That will work yes for the drum sound but you would still need a way of hearing the rest of the band. You also can't send different mixes to the headphones and main outs so you will have to make do with whatever setting is needed for gig for your ears. You may be happy with that but I wanted extra control of the volume of my drums to my ears. Thanks!
My apologies I've just reread your message, I also thought I could have the band mix into the aux in too but it didn't really work as what you put in the aux will go back out the main outs. Are you thinking of using the EAD to send drums to the bands mixing desk? If not then I guess it should work. You will need adapters though to change the jack or XLR that will be sent to you to from the bands monitor out in to the smaller jack input of the EAD unit.
@@MikeKeaneDrums thanks a lot! I did not know the aux went through to the main out... Damn... :( Then your setup is sheer genius! Maybe you can answer another question: is the click from the ead also hearable through te main out? (Excuse my bad english as it is not my main language)
Hey Mike, thank you for your Video. Really well done in ear solution! 👌🏻🔥 Do you know if there’s a opinion to send only trigger from the EAD10 to FOH and the full output for monitoring to the in ear mixer?
@@romichelnavarro5953 Hey mate I didn't solve the problem yet. I bought a TM2 Trigger module and send one channel to FOH, the other one in the Audio In of the EAD10. Greetz
Thank you for the comment. Yes you can take a click from the EAD, you just need to change the routing setting of the click in the EAD itself. You would also need take your drum feed to your small desk out of the headphone out of the EAD, not the MONO output like I've done. I have my click in the Set List Maker App on my ipad along with my charts so I don't use the EAD click.
@@MikeKeaneDrums OK, thanks, and do you then put that into channel 2 on your mini mixer? So on your mini mixer you have click in and monitor in from the desk? Your EAD drum mix is taken in the full monitor mix? So your EAD drum mix goes direct to the main desk? Thanks for your help
@@maxbaynes Channel 1 of my mixer is just the drums from the splitter out of the MONO out of the EAD. IF the drums need to go to FOH then they have the other output of the splitter. This way they can mix the drum sound however they like for the room and it doesn't affect me at all. Channel 2 of my mixer is the rest of the band mix with click if they are providing it. I never have drums coming back through the bands monitor mix as I already have that in channel 1. This allows me to turn the drums up or down independently from the rest of the band on the fly to my in ears without effecting anyone else. If I'm just providing a click to myself, I take a mini jack to normal jack cable from the iPad into the third channel of the desk which I can turn up and down at will throughout the gig. Hi Kyle. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I don’t have a link for the splitter but I’m pretty sure I got it off Amazon. The EAD is being split between two dc outputs because that’s what Cioks recommended. I emailed them about what I was planning to do and that was their advice. Cheers!
Hey man! Good video! I was thinking of having the same system. How is the sound of the ead on stage? I am worried I would my cymbals too much compared to the snare. Also, I was worried of other instrument bleed into the stereo mic of the ead...what do you think?
Hi Julien thank you for the comment. I think it sounds great for stage use. You will have to experiment with the gain and compression to find a balance as like you say if you have it running too hot it will pick up everything else on stage. I would also suggest not using any other presets such as distortion as they don't really work in the live situation. As far as your cymbals, I've found the cymbals are the quietest part of the kit, this is down to the the fact they are physically further away from the mic in the EAD unit. With it being a stereo pair microphone the most important thing will be that you play evenly as in your internal dynamics to mix the drums into the microphone. As in most things I don't think that buying one device will solve all problems, the mixture of the EAD into the MG06 into my In Ears (which are moulds, the Shure's are back ups) all work together to produce a sound I'm happy with. I really do love this set up though, the most consistent sound from gig to gig in my ears. I hope this answer helps, by all means ask as many as you like :)
Hey Mike, how does the EAD actually work as far as having the drums already mic’ed up? This is a great rig and I would love to do it. As far as the splitter in the back, is that for the sound guy to run the drum mix into as well?
Hi Keith, thanks for the comment. The EAD works by using the stereo microphones in the unit that goes on the bass drum and mixes it with the bass drum trigger. This goes into the EAD box which is connected to my board. This then processes the sound and you can manipulate it to create a sound you are happy with. Because it is essentially a core microphone in the middle of the kit you have to make sure you don't have the gain of the mic's too high as it can pick up the rest of the band and cause feedback. A lot of people I know have also had issues because they have tried to use a lot of the effects you can add to the sound, this can also cause feedback in a live situation. I use a very small amount of compression and reverb and have the gain level just enough to hear the whole kit. The splitter in the back is to send the drum sound to my little desk for my in ears and to have the option to send the drum sound to a bands mixing desk if needed. Hope that helps!
This video has changed my life, about to finish my build tomorrow. Thanks for the inspiration, 3 years later

Thank you so much for your content!
Thank you for sharing. It's very informative.
Soundcraft Notepad 5 has a monitor send, trim on the line input and runs on 18VDC.
Mate this is exactly the video I needed whwn i searched for "ead10 for monitoring". Thanks a million for sharing this 🙏
Hi Mike, I think I understand the full set up. Which connectors, leads powers the MG06?
This video I needed, thanks.
HOW CAN I MAKE SOMETHING SIMILAR? I LIKE THAT SET UP .THANKS.
You don't need anything to boost the signal to FOH, I've not had any issues.
Brilliant! I was going to see if I can run the EAD to my interface, and use the EAD as a stero channel? Do you have a trigger to each drum?
Great video and thanks for the detailed explanation. It looks like you split the dc power from the EAD into the GC7 with an adapter into inputs 1 & 2. Is there a reason it cannot go into just one input?
Also, I love your pedal stand and tablet stand attachment shown on your Instagram. Can you please post info on this or a link?
Thanks for figuring all this out and sharing it with us!
Hello,
Thank you for the positive comments.
Thanks!
@@MikeKeaneDrums thanks for the quick reply. You rock!
dude. this is brilliant.
CAn you do backing tracks with this?
How do you plug in a multi pad into this using this exact step up with Alesis or Roland pads?
hey mate, what type of power cables are you using please? just checked through the comments and cant find if youve answered this before, cheers
Do you have a link to the splitter you used for the EAD10 output? Most of the ones on Amazon seem to have crappy reviews
Fantastic info, thanks 👍
Hello Mike. I have the same set up, used it at rehearsal last nite and my mix was horrible. I'm guessing I was because the mix from foh SUCKED. do you typically use the hi pass filter and/ or the pad filter on channel 2 from foh? Thank you
Porque conectas cables mono desde yamaha a mix y no lo haces en estéreo ?
Couple questions
1. Do you use the click on the ead live?
If a smaller venue uses the ead10 input. Would the click come through their PA?
Nah the click wouldn’t come through I’m pretty sure.
How could I run this through in interface like the focusrite 2i2?
To run through an interface you would just need to connect the outs with jack cables into the interface. Although you can just usb straight into your computer and it will work as an interface.
Can you take out the gain of the drums while recording ? The drums are too loud and can't hear the song when I play
Do you run you feed to foh and he sends you the monitor feed back how do you keep the click from coming out of the pa?
Fantastic 😊
One other question. How did you mount it all to the pedaltrain? It looks super stable.
@@mortonfrankfire5400 I’m using strong sticky Velcro
@@MikeKeaneDrums game on!
I’ve literally just replicated your set up. I tried using a different desk but it was too big.
HI MIKE CAN THE YAMAHA AG06 (WHITE) MIXER GOOD FOR THIS? THIS HAS AUX AND IT SAIDS DC IN THE BACK
Great rig!
Why don't you want stereo to the mixer
outstanding! thank you :)
@@steveroberts4650 yeah it’s not amazing quality taking it into the aux in.
Yes this set up gives great quality to both ears.
Hi Mike , great video very informative, how do you get a click to your IEMs but not to FOH ?
Hi mate, thanks for the question. I actually take the click out of my set list app on my iPad and plug that into the 3rd channel of the desk. If you have a look through the comments on the video you’ll be able to see some people have configured the EAD to send the click out of the headphone output if that’s what you’re after.
would it be possible for you to draw a diagram so I can se where to connect to P.A. And to a wireles IEM. for P.A is it the to output on the mixer (XLR) ? I had exactly the same setup as yours
Hey, thanks for the comment. I don’t have a diagram I’m afraid but I hope this helps…
The PA gets a feed from the splitter out of the MONO output of the EAD. You should be able to see in the video when I show you the back. My IEM’s come out of the phones output of the mixer. I don’t use wireless IEM’s as it’s set up right next to me. The monitor feed of the rest of the band goes in to the second channel of the desk.
Cheers!
@@MikeKeaneDrums Thankyou that helps me
@@strike22000 ace :)
Hey. Thank for the video. What exact cables do you use to connect the ead and mg06 to the power supplier? Want to do the exact same as you myself but I’m totally ignorant about it . Thanks!
very usefull video, thank you!
This setup is fantastic! Sorry for the triviality of the question: did you use Velcro to attach the EAD 10 and mixer to the pedalboard?
How are you mounting this? Do you have the entire rig fastened to a cymbal stand somehow? I’m looking to do the same but am drawing a blank
I use a collapsable lightweight music stand which folds up into my hardware case.
Is the splitter and cable stereo or mono? Could you send me the link?thanks
A year or so later, would you make any changes or upgrades to this rig?
I've got a question. I have an MG10, and my mate uses a separate amp. We only use the PA for my kit and vocals. How would I go about hooking up the bass amp and guitar amp so I can hear everyone through my in ears but still have sound out of the amps.
In a best case scenario the amps have an additional DI output from which you can run a cable to your mixer and put guitar and bass DI signals on different channels. If the amps don’t have DI outs, you could put your own mics in front of the amps to get your own signal. That’s obviously more expensive and more hassle.
@@stefanvombruch5649Yeah, we've since got mics. Eventually I'll get my band on board with the IEMs.
Do you put full vol to the mixer? I use a zoom l8 so I can plug my drum pad and ead into it.
Thanks for the comment. No I tend to go just over half way for the volume of the EAD. It’s a balancing act with the mic and trigger sensor to not over do the signal.
Excuse me dude, This setup is not to making drum cover (video) right ??
I have been asking to those people who made a drum cover with ead10, and that just need ead10 connect to handphone, I don't see a mixer, would u tell me?🙏🏻
Why not headphone out to Yamaha instead of splitter/mono output? Thank you.
Why not use the headphone-out on EAD10 to the mixer?
Yep you can do that as well 👍
@@MikeKeaneDrums thanks, did you update the firmware? Do you adjust the noise gate functionality?
@@clevelandrum I did yes. The noise gate is a handy function!
What type of splitter do u use ?
my god i want to do this!
what size of your pedal train board?
Are those guitar patch cables or trs. Do you run output from your mixer or the ead to the main mixer
This way they can EQ or change whatever they like and it doesn’t affect me.
love this man!!! I've been looking for a set up like this for ages you are a life saver. If i run in to any problems could i drop you a message ?
Glad you like it mate, yes by all means send me a message with any questions. @mikekeanedrums on Instagram.
@@terryemons No problem, yes the click also goes out the main outputs too. I haven't found a way to stop that. It sounds like we had the same idea!
@@MikeKeaneDrums haha! Yeah, well... Great minds think a'like... :P
Brilliant Vid! I have questions!
How do you mount this on stage?
Hey Mike, thank you for your Video. Really well done in ear solution! 👌🏻🔥
Do you know if there’s a opinion to send only trigger from the EAD10 to FOH and the full output for monitoring to the in ear mixer?
Do you have the answer? I have the same question
@@romichelnavarro5953 Hey mate I didn't solve the problem yet. I bought a TM2 Trigger module and send one channel to FOH, the other one in the Audio In of the EAD10. Greetz
That is not possible, because in the EAD 10 you can’t split the trigger signals from the mic signal and send them to different outputs.
Amazing! Going to do this setup! How is the EAD10 and mixer mounted? I know the EAD10 has a thread look.
It does but I'm actually just using some really strong velcro. The power brick underneath is drilled in. Thanks for the comment!
@mikekeanedrums… you drilled the Cioks into the pedal board?
great video, can you take a click from the EAD when playing live?
Hope that helps!
@@MikeKeaneDrums perfect thanks
@@MikeKeaneDrums Hi Mike. Thank you for all of your advice I’ve read many of your comments and your advice has helped greatly and what I am trying to accomplish with my EAD10. Now you make me curious what is the name of this set list maker that you use. There are a few to choose from I was just wondering which one you can suggest. Thank you in advance. ❤
I can’t stop watching this video, you really by passed a lot of money, do you have a link for that splitter and why are you splitting the ead with two dc outputs.
Thanks man
You dont need the split on the output. Just get the headphone output and plug into your mixer
Yes I know, the reason I don’t do that is the EQ output is different for the headphone output and I prefer the sound of the normal output.
tight kit nice 1
Hope that helps!
good job
Thanks!
