Nail polish has never lasted on my nails more than a few hours before chipping, the idea of beautiful cement nails is very a-peel-ing to me. I just made a Benana joke.
Just a quick rule of thumb for those curious, if you have to mix a powder with a liquid, it’s acrylic. Anything that needs to be cured is gel, and anything that can air dry is normal polish. I’ve used dip powder systems before and all of them are acrylic.
So I did some research (polymer chemist here) and it turns out that dip powder nails are kind of acrylic nails.... and kind of not. The powder is acrylic but the #1 Probase stuff is a cyanoacrylate derivative-- basically it's superglue. And yeah, that stuff *smells*. Since the cyanoacrylate is in contact with your nails instead of the acrylate monomer you (supposedly) don't get the weakening of the nail plate that can be caused by acrylic nails. The #2 Activator bonds the acrylic powder and causes it to harden. It seems like the main justifications of these nails are that they can last up to 8 weeks and that people who are allergic to acrylic nails and gel polishes can wear them.
Ali according to the internet! No personal experience cannot confirm. Cyanoacrylate is really really good at sticking things to other things though....
Courtney Czarnik I have the same problem. Started using the sally hansen gel manicure stuff. No lamps but 2 colour coats and 2 tacos (top coats) gives my nails enough strength.. and usually lasts anywhere from 8-14 days 😊
I used to get acrylics back in high school, so I was actually surprised that you didn't know that's what you were doing because I recognized all of the non-dipping steps of the process. And yes, they do drill at your cuticles.

It was/is a common thing for nail artists to call their other hand Cinderella or Cindy because she does all the work and gets no credit. That's how I heard another nail artist describe it.
Cristine, there was this thing I saw on Pinterest that if you soak your fingers in alcohol for a few mementos then put newspaper on them, you get the newspaper on your nails? idk if it works but you should try it
Maya C definitely works I do them also cutting up pieces of new paper and putting those pieces in the rubbing alcohol is another way or doing the same thing x
I ONLY get dip gel manicures. I love them. To be honest, the part where your finger is dipped in the powder is the worst part for me. Something about the texture of the powder makes me really uneasy and uncomfortable.
I got dip nails at the nail solon yesterday and it was not as thick because they use the electric buffer and the buffer thing did not touch ur nail just the dip powder. But i am happy with how they came out! My mom has gotten them a couple times and they stayed on for about 8-10 weeks😊
hi I'm going to school to become a nail technician and technically she's using a salon product and anytime a nail technician is buffing your natural nail it's to remove the cuticle which is dirt and oils and sweat that had accumulated to the surface of your nail (not the eponychium which is the skin above the nail bed) so that when they apply polish/ acrylic/ gel/ dip powder it's to make sure that it stays on instead of chipping off and possibly hurting you BUT it is possible for a nail technician to accidently buff too much and do more than remove some of your natural nail. a well educated and practiced technician would only carefully remove the cuticle.
This was the first video I ever watched from cristine and I remember subscribing immediately because I loved her personality. Fast forward to 2022 and I'm still subscribed
I really like the dip powder because I can get a solid week without them popping off. My application needs work, and then I think I would be able to get more like 2-3 weeks. Regular nail polish maybe lasts a day? I don't have time for that. I like that it doesn't require a UV light to cure. I like that it strengthens my nails so they can actually grow and not just break/wear down. I have super weak nails (used to be a biter). The part I really don't like is removal. I was kinda hoping to see how long you could get them to last with the peel off base coat. If I could get it to last at least a week it would be worth it to me.
I have found that you need to make sure you have no oils on your nails by swiping some acetone over your nail quickly, also making sure your cuticles are very trimmed and you leave a small space between the dip powder and your cuticle to prevent lifting. Another tip is to do one coat of base coat, let it completely dry, and do another coat and continue the process, you can also do three thinner coats for a more vibrant color
I started using Revel dip for the exact same reason! Removal is a pain but I like that it doesn't chip off like polish. The thinner the coats the better I've discovered.
rakel fairfull regular nail polish doesn’t last a day. don’t know what you’re doing with your hands or what kind of polish you use but that shouldn’t happen?
I am no expert and am learning a variety of techniques, but this particular review won't dissuade me from trying. I have successfully done a few sets of French nails and they have lasted more than week. The process is easy and takes only minutes and my own nails are growing and not damaged while I am wearing the powder. win/win
I probably would use this product. It seems like a poor product if you're the kind of person who wants to paint your nails frequently, but for occasions where you want that stuff to stick for a long time, it seems pretty good. I'd like to see a wear-time test on this vs. traditional polish or even gel, but I fancy it's very long lasting. You prove in the video you don't even need to file with a drill so it seems pretty safe for the natural nail, and I wouldn't be afraid of "weird" chemicals, since nail polish itself is pretty chemically. Sometimes the fumes from traditional polish/remover give me headaches so ventilation is always important no matter what product it is. Since it's such a hard coating, it would also seem to be something you could use to protect your natural nail from splitting or chipping if you have really soft, weak nails and want them to grow out. It also seems much easier than a do-it-yourself acrylic kit with all that nail tip/glue/shaping business that really does seem to need a lot of filing/drilling, which yea does seem pretty bad for maintaining nail layer integrity.
Its essentially acrylic like Im not sure about actual formula but the feel and process of applying are essentially the same. The benefit of the dip powder is it goes straight on your nails you dont need a nail tip (which you could probably do with normal acrylic anyways) and it makes them *super* thick and hard so they dont break as easily which is good for someone who's been wearing acrylic nails or even just has thin weak nails. Only downside is its expensive and your nails still get damaged by the buffing/drilling if you do it yourself with a drill/buffing block or if you get i professionally done. It is long lasting (i've done it a few times before) but i grows out with your nails so even though it does stay on eventually it doesnt look good anyways because they've grow out so much. Personally I find it a waste of money because when I have acrylics/dip powder on I have to get them filled at least every 2 weeks because my nails grow so fast.
Sadie Spencer Yeah the point mostly is this dip seems to do fine without pre-buffing/drilling, since even with the peel-off base coat it stuck on there better than just about everything else she has put on her nails before. Buffing the top layer of product won't damage the nail itself so its thickness can be managed after application. So if someone wants a salon-style manicure with less chance of damaging their natural nails, it seems like a pretty good product to test out. As for "filling" them after regrowth, I could see how you could manage a similar thing with this product as a next-level skill with some practice. I would think at least the kit is less expensive than a full or partial professional manicure every 2 weeks considering how many applications can come from just 1 kit.
Kenny Simoen Basically it is. Dip powder nails are supposed the best nails to get since acrylic liquid isn't touching your skin causing bacterial and stuff. That's why the packing said it needed a file.
I did Dip Powder nails at a salon for a few months and loved them! They would not chip or move until I went back and had them removed. The only thing was that it's so hard to get off your nails after they buff it down they soak it in acetone. Then even after that they have to still buff the remaining off. It killed my nails I finally had to stop cause after so many times my nails started to get brittle. Which is an issue I've never had before then. So I would just say be careful if you do try them! :)
I'm obsessed with dip powder because it hardens my nails and lasts for weeks. Typically if I paint my nails it's chipping or my nails are breaking within a day or two. The only downside to dip powder is the tirelessly soaking and filings to get the stuff off! That's how I found your channel! This video is going to be a game changer for me and my dip nails! Great job for your first application btw! ♥
I just saw the most beautiful holo colour of all.... And I think you don't own it (for that matter, I never saw you using nailpolish of that specific brand anyway)! It's called Holo Patina by Emily de Molly. There is a non holo version of it which is already pretty awesome, that is called Copper Patina. And it's literally like a copper patina. It has this green turquois-ish color of "old" copper (they call it medium "sage green") and gold to rose gold... or copper :D shifting shimmering pigments. And of course Holo. This color is so beautiful, I don't even have words. Like, for real!

"Just an for your information", makes no sense. I thought you were a scientist??? 😂😂 My phone doesn't have the "same as/equal to" symbol. Otherwise, I totally would have used it!! 😂
You clearly speak excellent English eh? The use of FYI was used grammatically correct, and yes, I'm a scientist. You clearly aren't. P.s. learn to read please.
Cynthia Bernardy I think it's pretty legit. It seems like gel or acrylic. You'd probably have to soak them in acetone, like gel or acrylic, to make it easy to come off. I mean, you have to take regular nail polish off too, so...
+Shwee Beez Because who in the world has the time to do 15 steps for a manicure you can do in 5 minutes with regular or gel polish. Also It's a lot more harmful to the nails...
+Adri J2194 regular nail polish comes of easy. This stuff takes ages to put on and damages nails to take It off again. I would never put something like that on my nails but alright. Even gel polish is better because you can get the same effect in no time.
I went and had a dip polish manicure once and only once and it was AWFUL. Because the technician used the electronic drill and destroyed layers of my nail when I was trying to grow them out, and he drilled too hard and too close to my skin and actually drilled my SKIN and hurt me! And the stuff burned my hand a little when it was under the UV light. It was horrible and didn’t even look like it did on the display. Needless to say I will NOT be doing a dip manicure there, or maybe anywhere, ever again.
Also I COULDNT take them off with remover. I had to use an EMORY BOARD and slowly sand away the layers of polish until I got tired of it and killed my nails by pulling them off. Haven’t done anything to my nails since because I’m trying to let them heal.
This guy used gel polish to get it done faster I think. Also we’ve been there several times, and the other technicians are very good at their jobs. It was just this one guy.
Emee Stacy You have to soak them in acetone. Once you do you can get it off pretty easily. I know a couple of TH-camrs who do manis like this without sanding/filing the nail first.
next time, use a cotton ball with 100% acetone and some foil. soak that off instead of damaging your nail more by peeling it off...Its hard to find good people in the service industry...find a better nail tech that cares about your nails and your nails will thank you.
Well I have to say that I’m wearing dip nails right know there so cute and I love them, and they actually help my nails grow In my opinion there recommended 😂👍
I have dip powder nails and they are supposed to be like acrylic but more safer and does less damage. And when they dip my nail NUUHH it feels soo good and satisfying

i actually really like how the dip powder looks tbh

I've been watching Cristine for years and never did I know her OTHER HANDDDDDD is named Sydney.
cindy dudeee
I totally need to know if this was a throw away line or if she really does call her other hand Cindy/Sidney?!
Mia J she does call her other hand cindy
It was/is a common thing for nail artists to call their other hand Cinderella or Cindy because she does all the work and gets no credit. That's how I heard another nail artist describe it.

Cristine, there was this thing I saw on Pinterest that if you soak your fingers in alcohol for a few mementos then put newspaper on them, you get the newspaper on your nails? idk if it works but you should try it
*moments goddammit
it works ive done it
Maya C it works I have seen it before
Maya C definitely works I do them also cutting up pieces of new paper and putting those pieces in the rubbing alcohol is another way or doing the same thing x

Yeah, that was painful Cristine! Watch out!!
I ONLY get dip gel manicures. I love them. To be honest, the part where your finger is dipped in the powder is the worst part for me. Something about the texture of the powder makes me really uneasy and uncomfortable.
Nina it literally made me think about hanging out in the beach and putting super glue on my nails and then rubbing them in the sand 🤦🏻♀️🙈
Jamie Lee nooo it’s so nice.
Nina not for me lol the powder is cooling and soft
The reason it’s uncomfortable for me is because I hate having the anxiety of spilling the powder that was hella expensive 😬😬
Nina wow
Love dip, it's easy to do at home and keeps my nails from breaking at work
My family got a fish and it was a male but it was holo so we named it Ben

mary That’s waaay different than this
mary you don't dip with nail powders. You buff them with an applicator.
That's a different application and finish
tell em, togaegi
I got dip nails at the nail solon yesterday and it was not as thick because they use the electric buffer and the buffer thing did not touch ur nail just the dip powder. But i am happy with how they came out! My mom has gotten them a couple times and they stayed on for about 8-10 weeks😊
M_Love S but..... your nails would be grown out after 8-10 weeks. you're supposed to get them redone/refilled after 3-6 weeks
same i have them on now lol ive only had them on for 8 days and my nails are already starting to grow

The instructions: [have it in them]
andy I noticed that too lol
Have it in them?
hi I'm going to school to become a nail technician and technically she's using a salon product and anytime a nail technician is buffing your natural nail it's to remove the cuticle which is dirt and oils and sweat that had accumulated to the surface of your nail (not the eponychium which is the skin above the nail bed) so that when they apply polish/ acrylic/ gel/ dip powder it's to make sure that it stays on instead of chipping off and possibly hurting you BUT it is possible for a nail technician to accidently buff too much and do more than remove some of your natural nail. a well educated and practiced technician would only carefully remove the cuticle.
True look it up

Marcella Kane thanks for sharing this info. I was curious about that

Who’s back here after the Calling Out Companies That Stole My Nails video?
100 layers of peel off Base coat?

I am no expert and am learning a variety of techniques, but this particular review won't dissuade me from trying. I have successfully done a few sets of French nails and they have lasted more than week. The process is easy and takes only minutes and my own nails are growing and not damaged while I am wearing the powder. win/win
Awesome! I'm just now venturing into dipping! I'll be getting my kit in the mail on Friday probably. Any tips? Any brand you swear by?
It's the same as the "DIY acrylic kits"
Sadie Spencer
Yeah the point mostly is this dip seems to do fine without pre-buffing/drilling, since even with the peel-off base coat it stuck on there better than just about everything else she has put on her nails before.
Mangan2504 you spelled holo like hollow like nothing inside
Madelyn's Art
yeah well I am not native english although I know how you should write it. But that was just one small mistake..... how about you speak about the color I mentioned?
I just saw it, it's such a nice, warm color. She may have it behind her in her gigantic collection of polishes.

Not sure, as I think she doesn't have Emily de Molly polishes at all.....

Valerie it’s thic like the jibooty
Valerie also Jjang Jjang man Boong Boong
It looks nice, but just no, it's just soo much trouble and who would want to get those things off their nails again. It's pretty useless.
Cynthia Bernardy how is it useless?
+Shwee Beez Yeah...it's good for people who like the acrylic feel etc.
I'm confused though, dip doesn't use UV
This guy used gel polish to get it done faster I think. Also we’ve been there several times, and the other technicians are very good at their jobs. It was just this one guy.
Emee Stacy You have to soak them in acetone. Once you do you can get it off pretty easily. I know a couple of TH-camrs who do manis like this without sanding/filing the nail first.
next time, use a cotton ball with 100% acetone and some foil. soak that off instead of damaging your nail more by peeling it off...Its hard to find good people in the service industry...find a better nail tech that cares about your nails and your nails will thank you.
Well I have to say that I’m wearing dip nails right know there so cute and I love them, and they actually help my nails grow
In my opinion there recommended 😂👍
