You think that is weird? In diablo 1 map seed is determined by the system clock when the game is created. And Map Seed determines everything and never changes like it does in Diablo 2. So if you start the game at 3:23:17.01 on March 3rd 2017 on two different computers the games will be identical. Same map layouts. Monsters will drop the same exact items. Etc. The really weird thing is for some reason the formula they use for this will eventually "max" out. (I believe this happens in 2030-something). At that point only one map will ever spawn again. You can acctualy change your system clock if you ever want to experience the "last" diablo 1 game.

With learning this I just found a Thresher rack in LK. It's funny because it's not the 1st rack that I pop but the 2nd.. this is how I got it: I found rack A, that dropped either a War Scythe when I approached it from the left, or some Pike when I approached it from the right. This is without any monsters around ofc. Then I thought it might have more polearm drops if I could just add another step but something that would be predictable.. Next I found rack B which I proceeded to pop 1st, and then going to the rack A, which would now always drop Thresher when approached from the right. Edit: It does not matter if there were monsters on rack B nor what drops from it, rack A in my case always drops Thresher as long as there are no monsters near it. I am using rack B just as an extra step to push rack A from it's 2 original drops onto the Thresher.. I think with this method of using 2 (or even more) racks one could have an exponentially larger number of guaranteed drops if one would just switch the order of doing things.. but alas 2 worked for me just fine. Hey Llama, love your work! I'd just like to say that a couple years ago I ran a single player Amazon through hardcore, and for a time ended up farming Kurast racks for items. I eventually did notice some peculiarities and patterns. Great to see some hard data collected here for anyone to use!

49:28 Hotspur boots are a great example of a TC3 unique which can be useful in the end-game for it's +45% to fire res and +15% to max fire res. Upgrade it twice in the cube (first with Shael+Tal+PDiamond and then with Lem+Ko+PDiamond) to Wyrmhide Boots to get somewhat respectable base defense. I use this item on my level 93 hardcore hammerdin so I can just shrug off fire damage. That also allows me to pour my extra skill points (after maxing hammers, synergies, and concentration aura) into Resist Lightning to innately boost my max lightning res.

Are you familiar with the 1.03 glitch that would allow players to get items from destroyed bone walls? I forget exactly how it worked, but a necromancer could create a bone wall, then upon it being destroyed, it would drop an item under certain circumstances. People discovered that when doing this, they could manipulate the items they got by placing the bone walls in different spots. It was suspected that the RNG for item drops was seeded by position. It was patched out and I never heard anything else about position seeding drop RNG again, until now. I actually noticed the rack RNG being a bit wonky myself when I kept getting mesh belts during LK runs from one rack. I wasn't sure what was going on with it, but I wound up getting a couple of Tal belts from it, so I wasn't gonna complain. This is a really great explanation, though.
yeah not only could you kill a bonewall there for an item, but any monster killed in that spot would drop the same item. That was back when they used location seeds essentially to roll items, but they have changed it since then. Rack seeds are different though and might use some sort of location/spawn seed still

just setup a paladin shield rack in like 10 min of changing layouts, only took like another 10 min to get a 45 res base. Not spawning elite shields often though :(

I haven't been able to setup for a vortex shield of sacred targe though. I did end up getting many 15% ed CA non eth. Took 4 hours or so to get the 4os eth CA, after I found a rack for it. I was tempted but didn't pursue a ED eth 4os CA.
It's probably important to note how important racking is for time traveling. V1.07/v1.08 is really messed up with it's drops and some items are only possible to get via racking. If you want to find a 1.08 Arkane's Valor, Shako, Valk Helm, or Vamp Gaze prepare to do a ton of racking. Add into the fact that 1.07 etheral items have 50% ed, and you will really want to find a thresher rack if you want to make the best possible Infinity/Insight/Pride.

So Arachnid Mesh is super high item level. Armor rack in Lower Kurast is giving me spiderweb sashes. Can i really get an Arachnid Mesh from LK at 1:400 odds?
By using this fixed drop, I managed to get the gore riders, laying of hands and string of ears in less than a 100 attempts for each (after I managed to get a fixed drop) on Hell LK.
So, I was running lk the other day (rip hc light sorc, cause I just needed to see that gc).....anyways, I noticed that a lot of boneweave boots were dropping and that it was pretty consistent. Sure enough, I ended up with a pair of marrowalks just a couple of hours in. This thought that racks are tied to a specific tile that spawns consistently occurred to me, so when i saw the title of this video, I had to watch it.
Same exact here. I farmed LK for days, and I was dropping like blade barriers so often that i thought it was tied to the map seed as well. But didn' t figure out the monsters and the approach. Very interesting actually
Here's a thought, what if the rack takes the item pool of the summon? So the hydra is summoned by the council member monsters. So maybe the rack then pools from the council members item pool.
Yes, they were pretty reliable. If you found a balrog skin, shako, colossus blade, or grim helm rack in 1.07 it was definitely something to run repeatedly for one of those godly uniques.
I think even spawns like birds/bats will effect the drops. I have a rack rn that's 1 tele from the Durance WP and it NEVER spawns enemies, but sometimes a bat will be there and it'll drop a hierophant trophy instead of a hunters guise
im having the same issue, i have a rack thats 1 tele from durance wp as well, different drops over 100 tries. i even went so far as to leave my map up and always tele on the exact same corner of the entrance on the map. still, different items every time.
I have an idea, what if it rolls based on the number of entities within range when the player enters the aoe of the rack? So you go in from the right alone, it rolls 1 entity, crown, you do the same but there's monsters inside, say 3, now it rolls 4 entities and it could be some kind of formula that goes off that. (like going down a list 4 times with 4 entities, summons maybe just force a reroll?)
Running single player, so I keep getting Boneweave from same rack in LK runs from the same direction if no monsters, question is, will it always be boneweave as I've seen or "any non metallic" armor?
Fantastic content as always. So I recently had a map where monarchs would drop in LK, not around the super chests, but in the big building on the map which always spawns an armor rack. I stupidly entered a NM game and lost my map... how do I know how to farm a monarch again? I noticed that one randomly and have not been able to find one since. My real question is -- is there a way to know what items will be dropped? Or is that completely random? Thanks!
I've always wondered why I mostly get Ceremonial javs in the lk chest house, in 3 games i dropped 2x titans the other day! (Sadly no eth and both under 170%ed =/) Guess ill keep going til I get some Eth titans :D
Just an idea: Wouldn't it theoretically be possible to program a bot that approaches racks from different routes to map out where / under which circumstances (e.g. number of enemies, direction) certain items drop? Ofc the exact drops will be different for each specific map, yet this might potentially help understand how the drop mechanism works and how to affect it
it would theoretically be possible to program a bot that writes down every result for every approach on a certain map. it could run several months on every different layout to find similarities and then maybe you would be able to predict drops on battle.net. Idk, possible, but nobody is going to do it i think ^^
So, if monsters spawn around the rack, but i kill them all first.. would the seed be the same as if i clicked it with no monsters around at all? Im on a single player sorc and got a couple monarchs to pop off a rack but cant figure out how i got them

Llama in LK pop those corpses next to the super chests, ive found more HR's there than in the actual super chests. probably around a 3:1 ratio, and as far as the armor racks, i found 3 HoZ from the same one in LK with the same saved map. I feel like it was no coincidence. aall of it was done on p7

honestly I think it wouldn't be crazy hard to find. Seems like the odds for getting decent racks isn't too low at all. Just need to focus on finding ones without monster spawns nearby
I Do not agree with the approach to rack theory unless its in the game program itself, otherwise this similar to the Fonze bumping the Juke box to get a particular song.
love these and I don't want to be discouraging but your initial points were unclear and a bit confusing. it became less confusing as you began to show examples, but then you became very repetitive. practically everything you said was repeated like five times. either prepare more information to fill the amount of time you want to speak, or shorten the length of the video. this video should have been 15-20 minutes long. you didn't even answer any questions from chat outside of ones they would know the answer to if they had been there since the beginning. sorry if I sound rude here, just offering some feedback as you work on refining this new format.
Thanks karl. in terms of fielding questions, I didn't see many of them as a lot of times I had other things on my screen covering them up. The repetition came about because there was a lot of confusing info in my opinion. So repeating it for the sake of imprinting it was a bit on my mind.

Today I learned that if you're getting a lot of head, it's called a Sexton trophy.
This information still applies in D2R. I farmed for a 5os eth polearm in LK. Cheers. edit, and a 4os eth CA and 15% ED monarch.

looking back on this, I can't help but note that Gingergaming did find a way to repeat a Ber rune spawn offline. But it wasn't from a rack

does using telekinesis makes a difference? what if you don't use it and approach from the same angle?

Llama in LK pop those corpses next to the super chests, ive found more HR's there than in the actual super chests. probably around a 3:1 ratio, and as far as the armor racks, i found 3 HoZ from the same one in LK with the same saved map. I feel like it was no coincidence. aall of it was done on p7

Im searching for an archon plate. Is there a chance to drop it from an armor stand? Where and how do I get it then? All Armor Racks in lvl 85 Areas?
Archon Plate = qlvl 84. So yes lvl 85 areas should be able to drop

after watching some of this video, I started racking in the mausoleum in the hopes of getting my merc a cheap, hard-hitting polearm that covers all his resistance needs; an ethereal obedience great poleaxe(qlvl 84), though a cryptic axe or giant thresher would be fine too; I'm running v1.13d with SP ladder mod
while experimenting maybe 100 times with the same mausoleum map, and experimenting even more times with other mausoleum maps, I'm starting to come to the conclusion that the angle that you loot the weapon rack/armor stand from ceases to matter after you've opened enough objects beforehand during the game, even if the objects were looted in a different map, and even if the different map is in a different "instance"; that is, if the maps aren't connected to eachother like the rocky wastes are connected to the lost city(but if they're in different acts, then idk)
my runs consist of equipping my MF gear, having players set to 7, and just running around and opening every barrel, chest, grave, casket, & dead rogue en-route to the weapon racks & armor stands without killing anything, and of course, only the good map layouts get farmed
as it turns out, I can still get certain items with some degree of commonality
here's a small text document that I composed while farming the second-latest copy of the mausoleum that I generated; when i list a weapon, it means looting a weapon rack, and when I list an armor, it means looting an armor stand
concerning the order in which things are stated for a specific entry, the entry's items are all listed in the order in which they were looted:
1st rack drops suwwuyah OR zweihander OR scepter OR bardiche OR two-handed sword OR scimitar OR reinforced mace: winged helm, hurlbat OR flying axe, ornate plate
-break 1 barrel: same stuff

as you can see, the 1st case of RNG was happening a LOT, and the 2nd case was happening sometimes
and notable, for the 3rd entry, I got 2 different things from the armor stand and 2 different things from the weapon rack each time; that time, the 1st rack dropped runic talons, so this presumably means that the 1st rack had 2 different scenarios in which it'd drop runic talons
I eventually abandoned this copy of the mausoleum to generate a new one since I probably wasn't gonna get any 5os eth elite polearms from that map unless I actually killed stuff
however, I didn't watch the entire video, so for all I know, this was all already covered; I plan to get around to watching the rest of it later

one day i will find a rack that drops grand mathron bows, and i am going to farm it for eternity for that perfect faith base.
honestly I think it wouldn't be crazy hard to find. Seems like the odds for getting decent racks isn't too low at all. Just need to focus on finding ones without monster spawns nearby

I Do not agree with the approach to rack theory unless its in the game program itself, otherwise this similar to the Fonze bumping the Juke box to get a particular song.
love these and I don't want to be discouraging but your initial points were unclear and a bit confusing. it became less confusing as you began to show examples, but then you became very repetitive. practically everything you said was repeated like five times. either prepare more information to fill the amount of time you want to speak, or shorten the length of the video. this video should have been 15-20 minutes long. you didn't even answer any questions from chat outside of ones they would know the answer to if they had been there since the beginning.
