Looks great but u should start doing a before and after picture. Just so they can see how much better it looks! I would recommend that on your future products
Wow awesome job I always thought the gray used was too plastic looking. But it takes balls to do the what you did, cutting the cloth, sawing the resin chain mail off. That's why your the man.

Rafael's work is great. But I don't understand these things. These toys cost hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars but the quality is so bad that you have to hire someone to repaint them? How do they sell any? Moreover, aren't these collectables? Doesn't modifying them destroy the (theoretical) value? If I showed up at a comic convention with a Action Comics #1 with all the pages "fixed" it would be valued at $0.
Just curious how much you charge to do this? I just got this statue and it looks pretty bad, like a large plastic toy figure. Such a shame because it could have been so much better.

I have the Sauron statue, and for me I would not get it repainted, it looks good no question but I do not see the grey plastic to it. He does shine, the paintjob reflects the grim lands of Mordor. I never got this idea he needs to shine in this metalic look, inside Mordor its not much light, and if you look at the film hes not really shining, even in the cracks of doom his armor never had this texture on the repaint. Let us not forget Jerry was behind this statue paintjob. From day to night, the statue has different lighting, and its a magical paintjob SST have done, like no other

That is the point of the statue, sauron's armor is not going to look all shiny, its going to be dull because in mordor the armor does not shine, hell it never did shine. Like I say the paintjob is inspired by the jerry painint, the moment its repainted is when not many gets the painting on why jerry wanted to bring his statue to life through this PF. All I see from the paintjob is a ruined statue
But if someone wants it to "shine" why not have it repainted. Everyone likes things that are different that's what makes this hobby fun. Great paint up to me. Client got what he asked for
Hi Rafael, great work! Interesting to see the use of spray cans rather than airbrushing. Was that because you needed an enamel paint underneath the acryllic weathering?
Actually tony the primer I always use the cans when I use primer , and the black paint I used cans because it was faster to cover the big statue , the chrome I find it easier in cans then getting the small bottles of the chrome paint for airbrushing :)

I know that Golden stopped making their airbrush line, so do you use the fluid acrylics or the high flow ones? I have a ton of Golden fluid acrylics and wonder if it will work by just thinning it out for airbrushing.
Many do use gloss white , as for it making the chrome pop more , I really don't know as I have never used the gloss white , but yes gloss white can be used
once again fantastic job, I recently purchased the dc direct 1/4 batman statue from ebay, through delivery it arrived damaged, the piece seems to have been produced in a couple of pieces, the arm came loose, but not broken, what would you recommend I use to fix and how?
That's a tricky one due to the cape coverd over with the polystone and can't allow the removal of the fabric to get in there , I would actually lift cape over and see if I can cut a small incision in the seam line of shoulder but big enough to put in some 5 min epoxy and glue arm assuming it came loose from shoulder
Shouldn't you use plastic primer before spraying solvent onto plastic , I don't mean grey primer paint but the clear plastic primer before the grey base coat

I forgot to mention , I did not seal the chrome paint , I did a test on sealing it with clear coat and no matter what I used it flattened the color and it turned horrible and the metal chrome disappeared it turned like dull flat grey paint . They do sell a chrome sealer from the same brand of the mirror chrome but were sold out , but then again I would test it out first . But even if you leave it alone it will,last as that is what I use in my Aragon crown hand have had it look great for years

so many times I see people pay unreal prices for cheap crap. I know there's lots of different painters at sideshow. BUT a lot of times they get it so wrong. here lately sideshow has fallen off in quality. hot toys is fast eclipsing them. I think you're an amazing artist and you have a wonderful eye. screw value. too many collectors just invest. they don't see the cheap corner cutting done. when I pay that much for something it had better be right. cause I'm planning on keeping it not selling it later. too many collet or don't understand that something is worth what another is willing to pay. the bottom drops out of collectibles all the time. you sir rock hard! I have seen you bring new life to the art that sideshow has great concepts for. Well Janet , I do have a normal job lol but many collectors just like myself buy these high end collectibles and they never look the way they are advertised , so many hire me to repaint them and or customize them to look better :)

David Vardanyan - I agree, I have this statue it came on the 23rd of april, and its like ruining art. Its up to others how they want to display the statues, but I would not want this to be repainted. From day to night, this statues shows off different colors and textures, it comes to life, it never looks the same. That was the point of the way its painted, its based off the Jerry Vanderstelt's painting who had a big say on how this statue should look. Its an ok repaint but not better than the original painting SST did, this repaint just made it worse. And it misses the point of the Jerry Vanderstelt's painting, which this statue is based off.
It's a great sculpture ruined by cheap chinese labor paint ap. That's pretty much every Sideshow statue ever made, tho they're not the only ones who do this shit. It's ok if you have money to buy overpriced bad lookin' crap but it's NOT ok to tell people what they should do with the overpriced crap they bought. Hypocrites.

Do you need to treat the paint in any way to hinder it from chipping off? Nice job you made here, fantastic that this is your first project.

you can thin them but would lose pigment a bit
