About One Day At A Time: Set in Indianapolis, this beloved, long-running series takes a comedic but realistic look at divorcee Ann Romano (Bonnie Franklin) and her daily struggle to find her own identity while raising her two daughters, rebellious Julie (Mackenzie Phillips), 16 when the series begins, and level-headed Barbara (Valerie Bertinelli), a year younger. Even though Ann pretends to be liberated and secure, she's always treading the line between her former, deep-rooted dependence and her newly acquired independence. Building superintendent Dwayne Schneider (Pat Harrington Jr.) helps take care of the family, while lawyer David Kane (Richard Masur) tempts Ann to reconsider her single state. Ann's priority, however, is discovering her own potentials, which includes a new career, raising her daughters, and learning more about herself and her world.

Despite being the younger sister, Barbara was definitely the more mature and sensible one.

Yeah, I wonder what would've happened if MacKenzie didn't get fired. Julie was getting too old to keep living under Ann's roof, they would've hated each other eventually.

LOL. Everybody was trying to "realize themselves" in the 70s.

I get that some people believe that Ann is being overbearing but I mean come on, for those of you that saw the episodes did you see where these idiots wound up and the choices they made? This is why you go into it with a plan! You just throw caution to the wind then what do you have left? Sure I didn’t picture myself going to college, but getting the most out of your education can be rewarding and I can thank my parents for that push like what Ann is doing. True, college is not for everybody, but having some kind of know how really helps.

Um. Bonnoe was a lil rough on them. the girl is old enough to have an adventure before being forced to go to college.with no money to pay for it.. Is the college trap really the only way? its not for everyone. Bonnies charactor had her when she was just 17. maybe this bf would have been the one. who knows. He just needed to grow up a bit..Just to scream at them scariing the guy off isnt the answer... Wheres the father in this. The more you control a headstrong teen ..they just rebell even more being from a divorced family. makes rhe daughters crave male attention. She could have talked to them like humans and put her foot down without causing a big scene. The Mom is a nurse. its not like she went to regular college herself. She had a kid while in high school and was likely unwed.. talk about messing up. big time (in tbose days thats how it was looked at..) .an unplanned baby while still a teen and shes talking to her daughter like shes so above everything. She prob had to marry the guy while so young cuz her Mom made her..She doesnt want the same fate for her daughter i guess. its a tough situation. i know i rebelled and ran off for a year before going to college. my Mom.is still talks about how i took a year off.a million years ago lol. But to just blow up at them ..no wonder she got divorced. ahe seems. way too controlling. She needs to ditch Nic Lobo and go for Sneider. who is a major major hottie!!. Isnt he good enough? ..what..hes not college educated enough for her? i could never undetstand why she didnt go for him. Gosh. he was the main reason i watched this show back in the day. Pat Harrington was so great in that role. He was extremely handsome in his day.
And Bonnie Franklin was amazing as well. How cute was she.? herre is a young 30 year old playing a 34 year old Mom of teens. Thats not easy to do. .women never want to play older at her age here. Very unusual and she pulled it off with flying colors.

You obviously don't watch the show. Bonnie's character was DIVORCED. The ex-husband was on the show a few times.
