I don't even look at them as separate shows at this point. So many scenes in BB feel more hallow w/o the context given in BCS. Can't say which ones yet lol.
Small clarification, Random people werent giving Slippin Jimmy money. Jimmy would slip on ice at a store then threaten legal action against the store for not making their locations safe. most stores (especially large retailers) dont want a big legal battle and some states do make stores have a legal obligation to make their stores safe if they are open to the public. its why so many stores put salt on their parking lots and sidewalks.
So in Breaking Bad, when Walt made his "confession", and gave it to Hank, it was on a DVD. This is a prequel. Prior to DVDs were VHS. Things are on VHS to illustrate where these events occurred timeline-wise.
I live in Abq next door to Saul's "Omaha" apt building. You can see my balcony at 5:33 sticking out from the left side after the snow plow passes!!!! I got to meet Odenkirk when he was here for season 5 scenes. I'll give more details on that when you get there. Both apt buildings are owned by the same company. The reason Eric is confused throughout most of this episode is because he talks over crucial bits of dialog and turns away from the episode while talking, so he's both missing the dialog and the visual (whereas Kailyn never looks away). It makes complete sense why he was dumbfounded through this episode. What doesn't make sense is his confidence, especially when it comes to Chuck and it not being Tuco. I think this show does a very good job of showing things without just using dialogue. For example, the scene with the trash can does so much with like two quick lines. You saw the dent in the trash can earlier, so you know he's done this kind of thing before, at this exact place. And Kim lets him just stand there and take a drag from her cig, so you know there is some complex relationship there, because she also doesn't flinch through any of it, then just goes and fixes the trash can. I think they just kept getting better with writing and this show is even better than Breaking Bad.

You guys are going to LOVE the back stories of all of these characters. Breaking Bad was an incredible show. But it took 2 or 3 seasons to get deep into the weeds of the real criminal characters. 7:00 FINALLY realizing that it's both a prequel AND a sequel.... Was waiting and WAITING and WAITING for the realization. 14:54 He said his real name was McGill in Breaking Bad upon his 1st meeting with Walt (as Badger's uncle). You forgot (or missed it) You guys do talk over a lot of dialog. You missed the initial call in this episode when he answered the phone as James McGill. 16:00 - "James McGill is his 'dad?' smh. It's much more of a spoiler that you know about Gus- that sucks. But I guess with Giancarlo Esposito's tremendous success (The Boys, The Mandalorian, the MCU, etc..), it takes a lot of work to avoid 16:24-. 1st ever shot of my favorite character in the Breaking Bad universe. 29:20 Kailyn: Unreal! It’s also kind of hard to keep Gus’ appearance a spoiler when frickin’ Netflix slapped his face all over the thumbnail pic of the first season he (eventually) appears in. I’m still ticked off about that.
As someone whos watched both shows like 10 times, Better Call Saul, honest to god, is even better than Breaking Bad......and I gotta say that at least part of that comes down to Saul being a lot easier to root for than Walt, but also its just builds so much off of what Breaking Bad did so well.
I have always thought maybe the writers could've confused viewers much less in the first episode just by having Howard say a single line like "Listen Jimmy, you may be Chuck's brother and you may be helping him with his medical condition, but that doesn't mean you can speak on his behalf!" That way it would've set up and explained the basic premise in a natural sounding way. It's not important of course because everybody figures it out within a few episodes anyway, but I just think about it every time lmao
It didn't seem confusing to me. Then again, I wasn't watching it making guesses - as a prequel (and sequel), and given who created the shows - I just figured all the information would be revealed eventually. Knowing (or not knowing) he's the brother doesn't change much in their first scenes together.
Omg I have been waiting for this, Better Call Saul is amazing and surpassed breaking bad in some aspects, some people dislike it since the pacing is slower, but I really loved it
This is what Saul said when he was kidnapped by Walt and Jesse "No, no, no, no it wasn't me it was Ignacio he's the one. Siempre de amigo del cartel (Always a friend of the cartel), Lalo didn't send you? De Lalo?" Remember those names.
When they were writing this show, they took little things from Breaking Bad, like Saul's real name, then they expand on stuff like that to create storylines around it. It actually enhances the Breaking Bad story.
I just started this show a few weeks ago with my mom, we finished Breaking Bad and El Camino, now we’re on Season 3 Episode 2, TRUST ME, This show is a must watch and it’s really good for me, it also makes Jimmy McGill (Saul Goodman) a really complex developed character, and makes him more interesting. Hahaha Kailyn nailed it 😂 One of the things that make this show so great is that it has the BB crew (with 6 seasons of creativity under their belts) continuing the BB universe from S1 E1. And like BB, BCS each season gets better!
I loved your reaction. I'm excided to share this experience with you. Eric & Kailyn, did you recognize the Chuck McGill actor, Michael McKean from his time in the 1976 - 1983 sitcom, "Laverne & Shirley" as Lenny of Lenny & Squiggy ?
Doubtful! I'm in my 50s and that is almost before MY time. They may have a better chance at recognizing him as an actor from the movies "Clue" or "This is Spinal Tap".
The actor who plays Chuck was also in the X-Files a few different episodes in different seasons same with Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul and the actor who played Hank all played in X-Files episodes lol and of course the creator also worked on the X-Files so that's probably why he used so many actors who were on that great show 🙂

It is very different from breaking bad. The black and white scenes are in the future of breaking bad after saul goes on the run with the vacuum guy whereas the colored scenes are in the past. It's no spoiler to say the show leads up to breaking bad (as it is a prequel) so you know where it ends. The interesting thing is how it gets there. The one thing that struck me most in the show from the cinematography aspect is the car scenes. No obvious stunt doubles switches bad angles that hide their face or green screens.
