@@tactic34wot52 As dangerous as those pieces of shits are, idk if i would say they are more of a threat than Death Claws are, if you go for a Swarm of cazadores then you would have to go for a herd of Death Claws aswell, otherwise that is just unfair, where in Fallout New Vegas you can kill those flying assholes fairly easily if you got a high enough skill with using rifles and got dat sneak up for some epic sneaking headshot damage, but against a Death Claw? not even an Anti-Material Rifle will kill them in a single shot (unless you buffed AF ofc) honestly the only thing that makes Cazadores such a pain is their poison, but if you got antidots then you can fairly easily survive them, i mean, i took on like 5 of them at the same time, and i wasn't even using late game gear.
I'm fairly certain the Gunner doesn't care so much that they stole eggs, more so that they stole DEATHCLAW eggs and are having him transport them, something he knows would almost certainly have led to his death... which it did.

In this case, not only do you eat a baby, but you also fill that deathclaw mother with false hope and/or lead at the same time. Adds 20% more evil to the omelette.

I think the mercenary that was voicing his regret about moving the egg was less concerned about how ethical it was and more that he wouldn't have agreed to a mission if he knew he'd be constantly hunted by a deathclaw because of the cargo he's carrying.

In essence, it is not a good idea to hand someone who may or may not be turning senile a shotgun and ask them to stand watch. The elderly burn energy far quicker than younger individuals which makes them particularly quick to become exhausted. Don’t forget about the Quest “Bleed For the Thorn” (one of the best quest in any Fallout) where you steals Eggs from nearly every creature so The Thorn could rise them to fight to the death against each.

Hey Nate, you can go to the Deathclaw nest, and there is the reward for returning the egg. The truely evil thing is to take the reward from the Deathclaw, and then immediately fast travel to Diamond City, go to Wellington and collect all of the monetary reward.

I wouldn't be surprised if you can find legendary gauntlets on other enemies though, if that's what you're talking about. ... I always feel too bad for the deathclaw parent to not take the egg back, though. I imagine the Sole Survivor can sympathize- they're both some of the most dangerous creatures in the Wasteland, and they're both grieving for a lost partner and child. At least the deathclaw can get *one* of them back with Sole's help.

@@groyperfuhr4871 yes, the way the ally levels work it’s Hostile, neutral, ally, friend. NPCs and mobs are set to neutral until the player gets with a certain range. After this they will switch to hostile or ally depending on who or what they are. If marked ally they will only turn aggressive if certain criteria is met. Such as seeing the player kill someone. To prevent this the Deathclaw is catigorized as a “friend” which is the category used for companions. So yes, even if it’s another Deathclaw it will act as if it was a companion and defend the player.
@@firecatcher91 My advice, wait until you reach around Lv. 91. This will allow the Deathclaw to spawn as a mythic variant. If you’re lucky it might even spawn as a legendary.
So the choices are: 1) guide a helpless family to a more secure and well supplied environment 2) remove a deathclaw from the wastes while also feeding an older couple 3) adhere to one's duty by neutralizing a self-proclaimed child murderer 4) build camaraderie with a exceptionally motivated subordinate 5) and report a heathen for blasphemy I don't see any problem here.
@@etcetera1995 Well there's always the option of killing all the raiders, then it would be safe for the family, though this is coming from a gal who's chosen to adopt this whole Raider Overboss role for one playthrough just to see what happens, and Preston hates me for it too, even though he was at over 100% affinity(and one of my lovers) before I killed the ghouls and took the slog for the Operators... ^^;
Eh, the faction system worked better for New Vegas than karma. Karma suited a game like 3 better when your character WASN'T trying to balance multiple powers in the region and instead had a reason to be good, neutral or evil as opposed to a diplomat.
@@daniellmalcom2573 if you’ve not played it, give Outward a try, and go in blind. It’s a bit of a “Euro Jank” indie game and doesn’t have the best graphics (especially the character models), but it’s really unique, and you have to play thru multiple times with each faction to get the whole story. You can actually screw up main story quest and even get permanent debuffs from doing so (you really have to bungle stuff up tho, it’s kinda hard to do that/ don’t worry- you get buffs for doing well) but once you pick a faction, you’re stuck with it. It’s a lot more mechanics heavy than story heavy, but the world at least has an internal logic that is really cool. The definitive edition just came out for ps5, series X/s and pc and mixes all the dlc mechanics into the main game, tho mostly stuff from the first dlc as it was more of a traditional expansion. The second was mostly end game content. But yeah, it might scratch an itch you didn’t know you had. It’s like if survival mode Skyrim wasn’t just added tedium and had a really unique magic system and was set in a world after magical reality warping apocalypse. Plus you can be a gun mage. 🤷♂️
Imagine returning the egg, letting the Deathclaw live on with its mother; then roughly 10 years or so later, that Deathclaw kills you after it's grown up a bit. It's not like the egg is going to be able to remember you.

Devils due( the one with the deathclaw eggs) is my favourite quest and you didnt even mention the amazing weapon you get as a reward. Its hard to miss but extremely worth getting.
I was very surprised to find out in a later playthrough that she really is an infiltrator of the institute. The means of the covenant are highly questionable but in the end their fear and brutality is somehow justified by the danger of Human Replacement

The gauntlet is at the nest, regardless of if you return the egg. You can just grab it, don't return the egg, and fast travel to Diamond City to sell the egg if you want to.
@@Cosmicrunner6665 No, it just brushes fresh dirt onto the egg (if you return the egg, let the Deathclaw cover it, then re-grab it, Wellingham will even comment on how dirty the egg got). The gauntlet is always just sitting next to the nest once the final stage of the quest is reached. Hell, you can actually rush it from the start of the game by running past angry museum mama deathclaw with time-slowing Jet, grabbing the egg and holotape, then just going to the nest.
Another, lesser known reward for returning the egg to the nest is Deathclaws randomly spawned in the northern half of the map are generally less hostile towards the PC. South... they'll still attack on sight.
Was aware of or did three of the five items you talked about. The 'fleeing family' random encounter and the 'Dixie with slaves' random encounter I've never seen. Have to keep an eye out, though. Three and a half years later, and still discovering things. The game's still brilliant as when it was released, IMO.
Funny, I think the Dixie encounter is the ONLY random one I've encountered in this whole series. I've gotten the static quest-related ones, but so does everyone else who plays the game lol
It wasn't about morality with the gunner and the deathclaw. It was knowledge and fear. I mean would you steal a deathclaws eggs if you knew it'd track you down until your death? Hell look at Jurassic Park: The lost world and Jurassic park 3.
You could argue that returning the Deathclaw egg and allowing it to grow up is more evil. Although I could understand a Soul Survivor who has had their baby taken and spouse killed relating, it's still a future monster.

I don't think the Gunner wasn't happy with his Deathclaw egg mission because it was "too inhumane" or somehow crossing some moral line; I think it was because he knew it was way too dangerous, regardless of the caps involved. Purely selfish, really, including his regret.
Gonna, say killing Deathclaws is probably a good thing. Take it back to the nest, take the gauntlet, Kill the Deathclaw, pick up the egg, sell it to Wellingham... No guilt here

I always took the gunner holotape message to be talking about turning down the job due to the danger of messing with a deathclaw than the moral implications of stealing eggs. That's just my take though.
If you check the nest where the death claw eggs go you will find the death claw hand which is a powerful melee weapon. Its essentially a reward for going that route

Crappy 500 isn't a ton. When you go to the nest and grab the Claw Gauntlet, you can mod it, then sell it for far more than 500 caps. Honestly Wllingham's reward isn't worth it. Besides, it will take a lot of time, before that babyclaw matures into a Serial Killer machine. Why not being a little selfish, it's a game, not like anyone in the Commonwealth gave two craps about your decision, there's no karma and no one in Diamond City will ever acknowledge, what you did (except Wellingham calling you Egg Dealer, or other shit). Yes, you can give the egg to the snobby idiots, who don't even give you proper credits for crappy 500 caps and a recipe, that you likely never use again, unless actively hunting for the eggs. Wellingham remarks, how it wasn't a problem to get the egg for that guy, who just ate the omelette. Excuse me? You damn can opener, you weren't there, risking your life in a fight with angry mommy Deathclaw in the Museum of Witchcraft! This reason alone makes me want to return the egg to it's father in the nest. You get a more proper reward and as a bonus a friendly mature Deathclaw, since it will attack anything, close to it's nest, that isn't you and your companion(s). There's a Mirelurk Queen nearby, if you lure her to the nest, the daddyclaw makes short work of her and anything, that joins her. A real Deathclaw bodyguard, how cool is that? Way cooler, than bunch of snobs, who don't give proper credits, where credits due.
Actually there IS a reward of sorts for returning the egg to its parent: While the Deathclaw itself won't reward you, impaled in the ground right in front of the nest is an unarmed weapon called the Deathclaw Gauntlet. While not a unique weapon (it starts popping up as loot and vendor items at higher levels), it's nevertheless rare, and its usefulness at lower levels for melee characters makes it more valuable than the cash reward in my eyes.
Mmm Applesauce Considering just 1 is capable of slaughtering an entire Gunner unit too, I’d say killing it is the right call. There are also a couple corpses in the nest, so it’s pretty clear that they actively hunt people in the wild.
Taking back the egg to the deathclaw mother is actually the evil choice: Once grown up, the baby deathclaw will slaughter countless people (like the ones in the pile of dead things just next to the nest) So be a compassionate man and turn that thing into an omelette

Sorry but I don't feel that the Deathclaw egg smuggling is an evil act. It's a dog eats dog world and we're food to them. They're aggressive apex predators that are immediately hostile towards any other form of life. Actually, returning the egg to it's nest is probably the closest you're going to get to evil. By potentially ensuring there's another generation of Deathclaws in that area. Oh and I don't think that Gunner was talking out of any sort of remorse. He just knew that, no matter what, a Deathclaw would track a missing egg to the ends of the earth. That's why he would've passed if he knew. Even in a group of experienced and armed men, you don't want to deal with a pissed off Mama Deathclaw.

I always try to be a humane as I can when dealing with animals in fallout, I always loved returning the deathclaw egg. To the point of dropping a quicksave to rewatch the animation of it re-covering its nest
Sparilas - yes I have played it and it’s my favorite game of all time with over 1000 hours I’m just saying a game can be good without many choices and yes Skyrim does have some but none in the main quest line companions thieves guild dark brotherhood and those are just off the top of my head
Conn Benn More choice in Skyrim? Really? I find it funny how people complain about fallout 4 having a “limited dialogue system” while Skyrim literally has dialogue windows with just ONE option. In Skyrim it feels like you’re just there to provide queues for the NPCs to speak, rather than the other way around. They don’t even give you the illusion of having a certain role for your character. Plus, the Dragonborn really has zero choice when it comes to anything major. You are going to kill Alduin, kill Miraak, become the leader of every faction and follow all the scripts in the story, no matter what. In fallout 4 you can literally destroy every faction and become a tyrant to the commonwealth? Meanwhile in Skyrim, you get sassed by everybody and get arrested for picking flowers! Please.
Dude, deathclaws kill people. Lots and lots of people. It doesn’t matter if it gives you sweet eyes or looks at you nicely, you should never return the egg and you should actually go a step further and kill that deathclaw. A lot of companions approve whenever you return the egg, but that’s completely and utterly stupid. Deathclaw are abominations and should be exterminated.
Dont know if you've covered this but in fallout 4 there's an random encounter where you stumble upon a funeral. There's a grave, a preacher and three friends with quite cheesey comments to it. There's the genuine friend, the regretful love interest and the jerk wishing he had died instead of the good guy
The quest where you are able to return the egg to the deathclaw rewards you with more experience and caps for giving it to the guy in diamond city last time I checked. Actually I think you generally get more experience as well as a caps reward for doing the more evil actions.

I wouldn't be surprised if you can find legendary gauntlets on other enemies though, if that's what you're talking about. ... I always feel too bad for the deathclaw parent to not take the egg back, though. I imagine the Sole Survivor can sympathize- they're both some of the most dangerous creatures in the Wasteland, and they're both grieving for a lost partner and child. At least the deathclaw can get *one* of them back with Sole's help.

You can take the deathclaw gauntlet and run away with it without returning the egg, so you can get both.

Funny think is, the Deathclaw becomes marked as ally after this event. So, if you were to get attacked nearby it will rush to your aid.

@@groyperfuhr4871 yes, the way the ally levels work it’s Hostile, neutral, ally, friend. NPCs and mobs are set to neutral until the player gets with a certain range. After this they will switch to hostile or ally depending on who or what they are. If marked ally they will only turn aggressive if certain criteria is met. Such as seeing the player kill someone.
To prevent this the Deathclaw is catigorized as a “friend” which is the category used for companions. So yes, even if it’s another Deathclaw it will act as if it was a companion and defend the player.

I miss the karma system. I was even better in new vegas where groups recognized you differantly
Eh, the faction system worked better for New Vegas than karma. Karma suited a game like 3 better when your character WASN'T trying to balance multiple powers in the region and instead had a reason to be good, neutral or evil as opposed to a diplomat.

@@daniellmalcom2573 if you’ve not played it, give Outward a try, and go in blind. It’s a bit of a “Euro Jank” indie game and doesn’t have the best graphics (especially the character models), but it’s really unique, and you have to play thru multiple times with each faction to get the whole story. You can actually screw up main story quest and even get permanent debuffs from doing so (you really have to bungle stuff up tho, it’s kinda hard to do that/ don’t worry- you get buffs for doing well) but once you pick a faction, you’re stuck with it. It’s a lot more mechanics heavy than story heavy, but the world at least has an internal logic that is really cool. The definitive edition just came out for ps5, series X/s and pc and mixes all the dlc mechanics into the main game, tho mostly stuff from the first dlc as it was more of a traditional expansion. The second was mostly end game content.
But yeah, it might scratch an itch you didn’t know you had. It’s like if survival mode Skyrim wasn’t just added tedium and had a really unique magic system and was set in a world after magical reality warping apocalypse. Plus you can be a gun mage. 🤷♂️
Imagine returning the egg, letting the Deathclaw live on with its mother; then roughly 10 years or so later, that Deathclaw kills you after it's grown up a bit.

I imagine that returning the egg is only approved by Nick and Piper because they're closely involved in Sole's quest to avenge their spouse and find their son. They understand that Sole empathizes with another dangerous, grieving parent. ... The others all approve of selling the egg because IT'S A GODDAMN DEATHCLAW YIKES.

Devils due( the one with the deathclaw eggs) is my favourite quest and you didnt even mention the amazing weapon you get as a reward. Its hard to miss but extremely worth getting.

i think that merc was going on about the fact that pissing off deathclaws is not smart at all, and that the client was basicly risking the lives of these mercs. clearly the last survivor was not ok with that considering he was the ONLY survivor.

Actually the gauntlet can drop randomly on high level raiders.
The gauntlet is at the nest, regardless of if you return the egg. You can just grab it, don't return the egg, and fast travel to Diamond City to sell the egg if you want to.

No, it just brushes fresh dirt onto the egg (if you return the egg, let the Deathclaw cover it, then re-grab it, Wellingham will even comment on how dirty the egg got). The gauntlet is always just sitting next to the nest once the final stage of the quest is reached. Hell, you can actually rush it from the start of the game by running past angry museum mama deathclaw with time-slowing Jet, grabbing the egg and holotape, then just going to the nest.

Another, lesser known reward for returning the egg to the nest is Deathclaws randomly spawned in the northern half of the map are generally less hostile towards the PC. South... they'll still attack on sight.

Was aware of or did three of the five items you talked about. The 'fleeing family' random encounter and the 'Dixie with slaves' random encounter I've never seen. Have to keep an eye out, though.

It wasn't about morality with the gunner and the deathclaw. It was knowledge and fear. I mean would you steal a deathclaws eggs if you knew it'd track you down until your death? Hell look at Jurassic Park: The lost world and Jurassic park 3.
You could argue that returning the Deathclaw egg and allowing it to grow up is more evil. Although I could understand a Soul Survivor who has had their baby taken and spouse killed relating, it's still a future monster.

I don't think the Gunner wasn't happy with his Deathclaw egg mission because it was "too inhumane" or somehow crossing some moral line; I think it was because he knew it was way too dangerous, regardless of the caps involved. Purely selfish, really, including his regret.
Gonna, say killing Deathclaws is probably a good thing. Take it back to the nest, take the gauntlet, Kill the Deathclaw, pick up the egg, sell it to Wellingham... No guilt here
I genuinely completely missed that you could return the Deathclaw egg. That's an insane idea. I delivered it for omelette and since I had Dogmeat with me (who never complains, good boy), I had no clue this was the "evil" option. It's a Deathclaw egg, for crying out loud!
I always took the gunner holotape message to be talking about turning down the job due to the danger of messing with a deathclaw than the moral implications of stealing eggs. That's just my take though.

If you check the nest where the death claw eggs go you will find the death claw hand which is a powerful melee weapon. Its essentially a reward for going that route
I feel like letting another fucking deathclaw hatch and grow up and breed even more is a little more evil than just making some tasty vittles and ridding the world of a future problem.

Crappy 500 isn't a ton. When you go to the nest and grab the Claw Gauntlet, you can mod it, then sell it for far more than 500 caps. Honestly Wllingham's reward isn't worth it.

Why not being a little selfish, it's a game, not like anyone in the Commonwealth gave two craps about your decision, there's no karma and no one in Diamond City will ever acknowledge, what you did (except Wellingham calling you Egg Dealer, or other shit).
Yes, you can give the egg to the snobby idiots, who don't even give you proper credits for crappy 500 caps and a recipe, that you likely never use again, unless actively hunting for the eggs. Wellingham remarks, how it wasn't a problem to get the egg for that guy, who just ate the omelette. Excuse me? You damn can opener, you weren't there, risking your life in a fight with angry mommy Deathclaw in the Museum of Witchcraft! This reason alone makes me want to return the egg to it's father in the nest. You get a more proper reward and as a bonus a friendly mature Deathclaw, since it will attack anything, close to it's nest, that isn't you and your companion(s). There's a Mirelurk Queen nearby, if you lure her to the nest, the daddyclaw makes short work of her and anything, that joins her. A real Deathclaw bodyguard, how cool is that? Way cooler, than bunch of snobs, who don't give proper credits, where credits due.

Actually there IS a reward of sorts for returning the egg to its parent: While the Deathclaw itself won't reward you, impaled in the ground right in front of the nest is an unarmed weapon called the Deathclaw Gauntlet. While not a unique weapon (it starts popping up as loot and vendor items at higher levels), it's nevertheless rare, and its usefulness at lower levels for melee characters makes it more valuable than the cash reward in my eyes.
On Devils due mission I went back to the deathclaw camp murdered the deathclaw then sold the egg to wellingham

Mmm Applesauce Considering just 1 is capable of slaughtering an entire Gunner unit too, I’d say killing it is the right call. There are also a couple corpses in the nest, so it’s pretty clear that they actively hunt people in the wild.

Sorry but I don't feel that the Deathclaw egg smuggling is an evil act. It's a dog eats dog world and we're food to them. They're aggressive apex predators that are immediately hostile towards any other form of life. Actually, returning the egg to it's nest is probably the closest you're going to get to evil. By potentially ensuring there's another generation of Deathclaws in that area. Oh and I don't think that Gunner was talking out of any sort of remorse. He just knew that, no matter what, a Deathclaw would track a missing egg to the ends of the earth. That's why he would've passed if he knew. Even in a group of experienced and armed men, you don't want to deal with a pissed off Mama Deathclaw.

I always try to be a humane as I can when dealing with animals in fallout, I always loved returning the deathclaw egg. To the point of dropping a quicksave to rewatch the animation of it re-covering its nest

Conn Benn More choice in Skyrim? Really? I find it funny how people complain about fallout 4 having a “limited dialogue system” while Skyrim literally has dialogue windows with just ONE option. In Skyrim it feels like you’re just there to provide queues for the NPCs to speak, rather than the other way around. They don’t even give you the illusion of having a certain role for your character.
Plus, the Dragonborn really has zero choice when it comes to anything major. You are going to kill Alduin, kill Miraak, become the leader of every faction and follow all the scripts in the story, no matter what.
In fallout 4 you can literally destroy every faction and become a tyrant to the commonwealth? Meanwhile in Skyrim, you get sassed by everybody and get arrested for picking flowers! Please.

Dude, deathclaws kill people. Lots and lots of people. It doesn’t matter if it gives you sweet eyes or looks at you nicely, you should never return the egg and you should actually go a step further and kill that deathclaw. A lot of companions approve whenever you return the egg, but that’s completely and utterly stupid.

Fallout 1 was a good example. One deathclaw almost wiped out an entire Super Mutant scavenger team. If they're too powerful, they should be put down

Dont know if you've covered this but in fallout 4 there's an random encounter where you stumble upon a funeral. There's a grave, a preacher and three friends with quite cheesey comments to it. There's the genuine friend, the regretful love interest and the jerk wishing he had died instead of the good guy
Shame they didn't make that Deathclaw a follower... or even a "Mysterious Stranger" like ally that shows up in VATS to help lol.
Or even better if you go back to the best after a while you could see the parent and the baby just chilling and they don't attack when you approach.
The quest where you are able to return the egg to the deathclaw rewards you with more experience and caps for giving it to the guy in diamond city last time I checked. Actually I think you generally get more experience as well as a caps reward for doing the more evil actions.
