Why don't Fabi, Nepo & Hikaru buy out Liren? Each pays 333,333 USD. They have a playoff. Winner faces Gukesh.
Each of these 5 players benefit. FIDE & audience benefit from having a better match. Hopefully it's not that no one is doing what everyone wants just because of something written in some book.

Hikaru gives Ding the full center at the beginning of the game with his own knight on the edge of the board. Ding winning by queening his center pawn is absolutely the outcome you'd expect. This is the second game of Hikaru's where he's thrown caution to the wind and disregarded all fundamentals and basic chess strategy in what I assume was some attempt to complicate the position, but that's not always a reliable strategy.

As a Hikaru fan, I always wide awake at night wondering how come the 1 game Ding won in classical was the one that really matters, the candidates!

i dont know that this means Ding is back, he played a defensive game with the black pieces against Hikaru who had to throw everything forward to win.

Ding is the one player I will never bet on or against… you never know if he’s going to play like an engine and crush anyone or an IM level and get crushed by any top GM
