As you found out, the soft suspension in A mode was due to the damping being set off the default setting of hard. This is a very common occurrence with test mules, lots of test riders play with settings and along comes a reviewer and gets a false impression of a bike. Before you take a bike out for test "reset all" on the dash to get back to factory settings, especially on bikes with electronic suspension. You also took your preload off auto and used the manual settings. If you leave it in auto preload on the GSX it has an input on the damping characteristics too. Great bike, so much you can customise on this suspension.
Everyone ( probably just dreamers for a photo) was all over the GT at the mcn show and little interest in the gx and vstrom . be interesting to see how the gx sells compared to the gt this year. If i were to choose again id probably go for the GX but i got my low mileage GT for £9.5k last year and only just starting to love it after a few tweaks. Todays new price of £12,050 vs £14,799 without options shows the level up on equipment but watching the long gx tech spec video made me think the showa eera suspension integrated with bosch imu and suziki sdms alpha is mostly gimmiky for me. i would recommend the GX everyday of the week, probably the Ducati multistrada too although the GX is a safer choice and easier to ride at slower speeds and has better fuel efficiency. The Ktm 1290 is powerful but its offroad focus makes its road manners that of an offroad bike so top heavy also prone to issues with reliability, ultimately choose carefully and test ride as many as you can before making a decision

I'm a huge Ducati fan and i run a 1260 multistrada myself but if i could go back in time and i cant believe I'm saying this id of bought the Suzuki....
A sport tourer should be evaluated that way and then issues presented such as vibs, significant turbulence with the stock screen and a seat that after about 100-150 miles is quite uncomfortable on the butt. The engine is bullet proof with a strong history, but the above 3 items make it a questionable sport tourer for me. Thanks for your review.
Interesting bike just like it is, but I’m already tired of tablet screens and origami aesthetics. Perhaps a GE . . . Geezer Edition?
Love the bike but it's just too expensive in my opinion. It's not far off the S1000XR price. And when you break it down, it's a 20 year old engine in a frame Suzuki already had but just added fairings to it. Other than cruise control, there's not really anything that improves my riding experience enough to justify the price. TFT dash, quickshifter, rider modes, etc. are all gimmicks used by manufacturers to justify inflated prices, but don't really change the riding experience substantively. Perhaps you can say the active suspension is "new and improved" but I don't think 15 grand justifies it.
Honestly mate i think this is one of if not the best bike Suzuki has made in a long time and is worth every penny of the £14k asking price. S1000xr is coming in at just under £18k with the same tech and my Multistrada 1260 was £14k second hand 2018 bike so it really isnt that bad in this new adventure sport market at all. yes the engine is old but its a proper K5 engine tried and tested and perfected over 20 years. id recommend riding one and prepare to be surprised fella
The brakes are terrible, like it's lil brother the GT. Such a shame because I love the engine, and enjoyed riding it other than the brakes. No lean sensitive IMU though right?

You are correct in saying very few people will take adventure bikes off road, but that's not the reason why people buy adventure bikes. I bought my adventure bike because its massive, comfortable, shaft drive, and the engine is best suited to tour through Europe, its got loads of torque to get up alp passes, and hasn't got a rev hungry irritating inline four engine. I like the way it looks, that Suzuki just looks cheap and nasty
couldn't disagree more fella I'm afraid, the GS is a brilliantly balanced all round machine i agree but lacks any kind of character and originality because there so popular but ultimately almost £10k more than this Suzuki and will be no where near as much fun to ride and i can almost guarantee that the Suzuki will last a lot longer! ive toured through Europe on my GS and found it to be big and cumbersome and ultimately unnecessary. these cross over bikes are breathing fresh air into the sports touring market and i can only recommend that you take one out for a spin you'll hand your keys back to BMW
@@vikingventuresuk6122 maybe if I bought my GS brand new I couldn't justify spending that sort of difference, but a secondhand one a few years older is a far better bike than buying the Suzuki, there not in the same class
@@AldredsquashUk well this is right the Suzuki is a sports crossover bike and the GS is an adventure bike. if i had to pick id pick the Suzuki as ive had my fill of GS's and there all very bland and boring
@@vikingventuresuk6122 they might be boring. But exciting and impractical are the bikes I use to ride, I'm after a bike that will do everything I want including touring Europe in comfort and the GSA is the best for me, but that's my opinion, it would be a boring world if everyone had the same opinion. Doesn't matter what bike you ride, if you love it then that's all what matters.
better quality feel??? i think not fella, the only thing that the XR has over the GX is that it has 18hp more.... thats it. as a usable everyday day bike capable of touring, commuting and track days the GX walks all over it and i can guarantee that the BMW will fall apart long before the Suzuki!
I had a 2022 S 1000 XR and is the mosti dissapointing bike ever. Perfect about everything but torque. There is absoloutely no bike unitl 7-8000 rpm. From there on, very nice. I had a test drive with this 1000 GX and fellt so much better at low rpm´s
well firstly the XR is way more expensive and in ways of quality id wager the Suzuki would out last the BMW hands down. secondly the XR is so uncomfortable i could only bare to ride it for an hour before i had to get off and have a stretch its ridiculously uncomfortable (for me that is) thirdly who the frig wants a main stand?! and why should that even come into the equation when every experienced rider knows a main stand on tight fast bend will have you high siding in no time??? the only thing the BMW has over the Suzuki (in my opinion) is a wee bit more power and better brakes. As a riders bike for riders the Suzuki is the best sports crossover that money can buy case closed!
@@vikingventuresuk6122the brakes on the GX aren’t even that bad though, a set of better quality pads mostly fix them, a 200 quid master cylinder def fix them.

Can chain tensioner is the issue with them. They should have this fixed on these bikes. A buddy has the GT version and had it done on warranty it’s been fine. I’ve got the Naked version of this bike 16’ and a Gen 2 XR. I still wish the XR had the motor off my GSXS. Smoother just as much power when flashed and piped better bottom end power also.
But then the BMW S1000XR already does all that and more .. and a main stand and better quality feel 🤷🏻♂️
better quality feel??? i think not fella, the only thing that the XR has over the GX is that it has 18hp more.... thats it. as a usable everyday day bike capable of touring, commuting and track days the GX walks all over it and i can guarantee that the BMW will fall apart long before the Suzuki!
I had an optie for one of these , But i heard the engine rattle from a GT . It was terrible . Many of the GT ,s have the same trouble . Suzuki en the Dealers says its normal , But man its sounds awful. The same engine as the GX have ……😢
Engine rattle is definitely not normal on these engines should be silky smooth! the test bike i had was perfectly smooth with no excessive engine noise especially rattling so i wouldnt worry too much fella. will have to let us know how you get on with the new bike!
I’ll likely be swapping the XR for the GX
How bout not being behind the traffic for the whole ride? Terrible.
I ride on British roads mate so take your bullshit comment elsewhere
@mickleblance8805 Probably you need to do your own ride and post it. You are unbelievable.
