Best song ever written, not even SW themselves were able to outdo it, it's one of those rare masterpieces that will most likely stand the test of time.
When you make such a masterpiece there’s no motivation to outdo it. They are probably aware that they struck genius with this song and they most likely are quite contented with it. Trying to outdo a 30 minute masterpiece is probably not the smartest thing to do 😆
Silverwings 92 I know what you’re saying. They waited too long to release a new album, maybe they just need to be together more time and the magic will return
Completely agree. I love Seventh Wonder with a burning passion and am happy to say this is their crowning gem. As much as I love Tommy in Kamelot, Seventh Wonder is his home. This is where he really shines and I would rather Kamelot find another singer than have to wait another 8 years for another prog masterpiece from these guys. I don't think the band's magic is gone, but the only way for them to really get back to their former glory is for them ALL to prioritize their music over other projects. I loved Tiara, but it didn't touch TGE, and it definitely didn't touch Mercy Falls. Tommy has done a better job than most anybody at replacing Roy Khan, but is it worth the reduced output from Seventh Wonder? I say not.
For you who didn't know, the song is based on the poems 'Aniara' by Swedish Nobel laureate Harry Martinson. It deals with the tragedy of a spaceship which, originally bound for Mars with a cargo of surviving colonists from a ravaged and destroyed Earth, is ejected from the solar system and becomes entangled in an existential struggle. The first track of the album, 'Wiseman' doubles loosely as a prequel to the events of 'The Great Escape'.
Ya know what I found fascinating was that the final chord played at the end of this song is the same exact chord as is played at the start of Wiseman. Listen to the final hit at 28:44 before the acoustic guitar comes in, then flip over to Wiseman. Not only is it the same exact chord but the same exact instruments as well. It's identical. These tiny details are what I love from artists, and Seventh Wonder do not get the credit they deserve for their genius.
Carlos Eduardo do Nascimento Gomes no weak point at all, this is what impresses me the most about this song. I agree with you, most epic songs suffer from a weak ending but this damn song is above all that. An absolute masterpiece!
Last 3 parts are the best imo. Whole song is masterpiece, but I like the most those 3 last parts, so powerful and this epic ending, oh my god, words can't describe this song
One of the greatest songs I've ever heard. Actually, it's not just a song, it's an experience. An experience you can't miss. It's probably the best retelling of the Aniara I've ever heard, even the film couldn't do it justice as much as this 30min epic. Really well done, Seventh Wonder. You have a forever fan thanks to this.
Part 6 (starts at about 9:45) is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard, and at this point I've probably heard it three hundred times. If I ever get to see this played live in full, my life would be complete.
I would also love to see that, but I don't think they could make it through 30 minutes of constant music without losing it somewhere, which is why I am so happy it is here in this perfectly mixing studio masterpiece. Although I know they have played some parts of this live.
Me encantó, durante 30 minutos me sentí fuera del planeta y pude imaginar la travesía, las aventuras, la añoranza, todo. Amo el espacio, la ciencia ficción, y amare esta canción por mucho tiempo!!!
You need Courage, not pessimistic thoughts. We must aide in helping our planet. Reduce how much you spend on trinkets, help pick up trash whenever ya can (especially near waterways). Other humans will belittle you, but that’s only because they hate seeing the BS that they ignore. This is everyone’s planet, make them realize it. Nobody “wins” when the world is a husk (and even if ya do “win”, what’s the point? Lol)

So fucking amazing. The melodies in this make me feel indescribable things. It’s really really hard to understand why people don’t consider this the best song ever made. Guess thats just prog rock for you.
Because songs like Blackwater park, |The sun, the moon, the stars| and The Odyssey exist and at least match this song and its stupid to claim that any song is the best ever made if you havent heard every single song ever made

Octavarium takes a back door to this song IMHO. Still LOVE Octavarium, but I am kind of burnt out on it. Gotta love them epics tho. The Odyssey is a close second here as well. And let's not forget DT's 6 degress of inner turbulence, and Circus Maximus' "The 1st Chapter" and "The Glory of the Empire" all good stuff. :)
I found kamelot in 2010 right before Roy left and was like "wtf who can replace him!?" I was on vacation in Florida when Silverthorn got released and was like "shit this is good" and looked up the new singer's (Tommy's) other band and was blown away.
Yes, I agree! Tommy wrote the songs for SW. I'm sure if they give him more creative power in the songs, Kamelot would definitely evolve beyond what that still feels like a post-Khan reverie
:D it is amazing hey! It might also be worth checking out some other long masterpieces: (Symphony x the Oddessy), (Dream Theatre Octovariam) (Dream Theatre In the presence of enemies p1&2) (Dream Theatre Six degrees of inner turbulence) (Avenged Sevenfold Save me)

It sucks. Arrangements could be better and the whole throwing a female voice in just to be trendy is gay

Amazing bassline, creative guitars, interesting drums and to-die-for vocal melodies. It's just perfection.

Prog meets N-sync and they just have the best sexy times.
Seriously, the solo at 10:14 is one of the sexiest things ever recorded, and I've seen my fair share of porn!
why did this masterpiece have to be removed from spotify?
Was removed from Apple Music too. Says it is no longer available in my country. Hopefully it gets added back soon 🤞🏼

The band has said it's a copyright issue and they are working on it.

Dining on ashes is easily my favorite part. So powerful.
Absolutely right. This song has no weak moments. Epic songs use to start strong and end not so creative, but The Great Escape was brilliantly written.

while it is a super pessimistic view on the topic, I can't deny the amazing story told through brilliant music.
This song is such a beautiful tragic masterpiece. Especially tragic because I believe this will be our future one day.
