Elizabeth was the best female character ever on ER, imho. The show didn't really create women's heroine-journeys that could be the stuff of myth or classic novels...I submit that Carter was Siddhartha and Luka was something of an Ivan Karamazov...but Corday had that sort of stature. She was complex and brilliant, highly ethical but pragmatic, well-rounded and accessible and given heroic story arcs all her own. One highlight for me was when she boldly challenged the old-boy intern hazing traditions at an M&M. And they got an RSC actress on the level of an Emma Thompson or Dame Judi to play her.
