I'm Katryces sister, it's taken me ten years to watch this.
This was the lowest point of my family's life, and my brother and I never wanted a part of it (hence why we are not shown in this).
My sister is greatly loved, and lives a wonderful life. She still does horseriding every week, holds down a job, goes to the gym regularly and is the strongest person I know.
I don't hate you for your comment, I feel sorry for you that you obviously have never interacted with a person with Downs Syndrome. Every single human I've met with Downs has been the brightest and most bubbly human you could imagine. They are the most beautiful people.
My sister is my hero, she's the strongest person I know, and she's endured so much. I'm so proud of her, and she's still going strong 10 years after her transplant. It was never a waste, it was a gift.

I don’t know if you’ll see this, but anytime I see a video regarding organ donation, I post that everyone needs to be a donor-and not just organs, donate blood also if you’re able. I’m 58 and I’ve been registered as an organ donor since I was 18. If something happens to me, I would be honored if I could give life or even sight to someone. I was very touched by your comment. 😊

My heart goes out to Judy's family. I lost my mother 16 months ago. We made the heartbreaking decision to withdraw treatment, but Mum was an avid believer in organ donation as well. It's humbling to know that our decision to honor mum's wishes was made easier knowing that we could spare families from the same heartbreak we endured.

Judy did a wonderul job raising her children. They come across so kind and caring, and helped their mum fulfill her final wish.
My family know my wish to be an organ donor. I'm only alive today because my mum recieved a kidney transplant 2 years before I was born. Seeing how much life she received from the transplant made my mind up from a very young age. Donation saves lives and, if it doesn't interfere with your religion, its important to register and tell family members about your wishes

I cried at the end. I understand loss and I also understand a 2nd chance and even a 3rd. I have a stepson who by the grace of God was saved with the help of a woman in her 40's. He was 13 during his first heart transplant. Life was going well for him. He got to graduate high school, have a first love. He was 19 and was about to move across country to start his new path, when he went down with cardiac arrest. I was not there to go thru the 1st time he went thru this. I was however beside him, rubbing his head , telling him he would be okay while his dad did chest compressions as he as on the phone with 911. Moments later there is all kinds of help there for him. It wasn't long before we heard the sound of a chopper above. He was air lifted to MUSC where he would later get a thing in his chest. He was still with us and still in the woods. Long story short, the next summer he had his 2nd heart transplant in Ca., he is now about to be 29. He has been in remission from cancer due to his heart rejection meds. God is good. We will always be grateful to the family that gave up their loved ones organs. I was an organ donor before meeting this family and later becoming a member of it, I shall always be an organ donor. I will always remember expressing the importance to my children when they got their chance to be one to do it and they are. I appreciate each and everyone that is and to those that have had to make that choice, we thank you and very sorry for the loss of your loved ones.

When I was 40 years old, I had my 4th bout of pneumonia, but to top that off I also had sepsis ontop, I was in hospital from the 22nd of October until the 19th of November, I got out the week before I turned 41, I had extensive treatment with a line in my groin, I also had a lumbar puncture, a brain scan etc, none of which I can remember, thank goodness my partner came home when he did because he found me collapsed and unresponsive at home, so he called 999, so between my partner and the doctors in the hospital they both saved my life, I can't thank both of them enough

I rode motorcycles for over 18 years before a distracted driver changed my entire life. I had open fractures and internal bleeding. My hand was off of my arm. It’s rarely the motorcyclists fault but we definitely have the worst repercussions. I pray for that mans healing. It’s a long long road and I won’t ever be the same again.

My husband had an accident when he was in his 20's, and it was another distracted driver. She didn't see him until he hit her. He's 64 now with no lasting effects, and has ridden since. We lost a nephew while riding his bike. He was doing a wheelie, and hit a sign. Our daughter was hit by a women who thought she was a bush! She was riding a black bike with yellow trim, and wearing a purple shirt and going 30 mph! I would've loved to see a bush do that, lol! She is fine now too. It really depends who's riding the bike, and how there's no room for fooling around on a bike. Peace

I’m honestly glad they’ve included a case where the person doesn’t miraculously get better because the incredible recoveries DO happen, but there are a lot of cases in which they don’t. It’s an important reality for people to understand. That despite incredible medical interventions and all of the best efforts by everyone involved, sometimes the outcome isn’t good. I’m an ER nurse and have seen both sides of the spectrum. One of the hardest things for me is to try and help people understand and process grim realities that they are not at all ready to accept. I’m so sorry for Judy and her family. I’m thankful the show treated her and her family with respect, and that they were willing to share their story to help others see some of the realities of life and death

A few days ago, there was a catastrophic accident in New England (I think it was New Hampshire) involving a pickup truck and a group of motorcyclists who were veterans of our armed forces. Seven of the motorcyclists were killed in the accident which is still being investigated. May our hearts, prayers and condolences go out to them, their families and friends. Also, Thoughts and prayers to the injured. The truck driver was not injured. Like I said, the accident is still being investigated so we don’t know exactly what happened yet. Remember, motorcyclists, ALWAYS wear your helmet even in states like Pennsylvania (my home state) that for some inexplicable, crazy and insane reason do not require that motorcyclists wear them. It's disrespectful for the body. Are you the same person after your organs have been harvested while you're still technically alive? Or are you just a shell?

I wish American hospitals would just stop treatment when it's obvious the person will die, instead of letting families force medical care that won't do anything. That only raises the costs of hospitals & insurance higher for everyone.

Hang on, organ donation doesn't happen after a person has died, it is done after brain death is ascertained and the person is kept intubated and "alive" while organs are harvested then when the heart and lungs are to be taken they stop the heart and complete the procedure! At least that is what normally happens, once a person is dead the organs start to deteriorate whereas doing the organ removal while still on a heart lung machine keeps them viable for longer.

What is happening in this case is referred to as after death donation where the patient is rushed to theatre shortly after death( within minutes) for organ donation. The timing is critical and very difficult to coordinate appropriate retrieval teams.

    • @Mrs.TJTaylor
      @Mrs.TJTaylor ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, that’s understood. The body is alive, the brain is not. I’m too old to donate now, but I always wanted to had I died young.

American Doctors and hospitals don't go this far to save a patient. I'm saddened by that realization. We have horrible health care in America. If you are poor, you can't even go to a doctor. So many here use the ER for a clinic because they can't turn you away.

    • @songbirds3712

What are you even talking about?? Daily, doctors in the US are faced with medical situations identical to these, and daily they go to every extent possible to save their patients!! The poor can and do indeed receive healthcare!

When male doctors become super qualified in a specific field, then they become known as Mr not Dr. Not actually sure how that works for female doctors.

It’s the same in the UK,all surgeons are known as Mr not Dr.In the early 1800’s surgeons didn’t need to have degrees or be specially educated like regular doctors,so were known as Mr.Although that’s not the case now the tradition carried on.

Probably depends on how well the person's general health is or was I should say. I'm 63 and I don't think anyone would want my heart. I have heart issues. I also have nodules on my lungs so those are out. They probably can tell when they start to harvest them.

RIP Judy... What I can add to this very tragic & sudden even that took the life of a very active & otherwise healthy woman is what I can only say is how most of us should want to pass on. She literally had no knowledge of what happened & I'd be safe to say no suffering. Keeping her alive would have been suffering for her & then to donate her organs so a part of here earthly body can live on to save so many lives. There really is no better way to go from this place to the next & her family absolutely did right by her & I support organ 🫁
