I live in Vegas, and the talk here is all about how Robin Lehner didn't show up for a required physical, even though he will be on LTIR and expected to not play. Did Landy have to show up for a physical?
Yes. From my understanding, a player has to go to the physical so he can be deemed unable to play and then can be placed on IR or LTIR. So for him to not show up they can't go to the step of placing him on LTIR.
with the way skates are made today you do not wanna wear someone elses skates lol they get molded to ur foot so if u wear someone else ur feet are fu cked for days ,agreed he should of just got new skates takes 12 hours ish to mold em to ur feet good to go ,i had to do that years and years ago with my koho lol roy goalie skates poured boiling water in them let em sit for 10 mins dump the water laced em up tight tight ad walk around a bit do some "squats" to lower my body weight into my feet and mold em that way , so maybe not 12 hours lol maybe 4 total cause i did this 3 time , and never has feet problems or blisters and in some tournys id play 3 games in a day and never take my lower gear off . pads got heavy as hell lol but feet were in pillows :P
you guys have never been around hockey players and their equipment. the team did outfit him with all new gear - all brand spanking new gear right down to the cup and garter. hockey players generally don't much care for new gear and most especially not all at once. They will spend hours breaking in a pair of gloves. a new pair of skates can take a week or two. Bednar said he'll be on the ice tomorrow regardless of the gear situation, so you know he was working frantically between film sessions and workouts today to get that stuff as broken in as possible. of course it will be a running joke in the room for the rest of the season, but everyone also understands why he wasn't on the ice with the group today.
I understand how the gear thing works. We were clearly having our own fun with it. I'm not trying to compare beer league and pro level, but we borrow stuff from one another often, except the jock. And it's not entirely true every single thing they get is new. Apparently Crosby still uses the same jock since he was 15, that's gross. All we were saying was it's day one with a brand new team. I'm sure he did whatever he could to practice, but if someone else has a broken in a pair of skates and pads, I'm borrowing them to be out there.
@@LockedOnAvalanche the thing with these guys is that they have been using custom skates and gloves from the time they entered the elite levels of hockey (junior, college, European pro). maybe his custom skates are size 7 3/4 left and 8 1/4 right. each guy also has a specific rocker set up on their blades so that they have their optimum balance and stride. Once he signed with the Avs over the summer they would have sent him the team gear (helmet, gloves, pants) so that he could start breaking them in during his summer skates. yes, the team would have extra pairs of his custom gloves there for him, but they're not broken in at all. In this particular case it would have been all new head to toe gear even if he's using the same shin pads etc... because his bag is stuck in France. so, yeah, he was given a day to break in a full new set of gear.
