To be honest, many Americans don't even know the location of all the states in the U.S. Geography education was not all that good. Shoot I don't think Americans know the capitals of all the states. (Me included) I personally do know quite an amount of Asian, African and European country names but I feel that's from me consuming a lot of music from different places. lol I didn't even realize until I was part of a quiz game with unlimited answers and I just started listing off countries for certain questions and everyone just looked surprised.
Peniel's reminisces about going to school in Korea could easily be adapted into stand-up comedy, especially the "are you the kid from America? ah, okay, move along." And to Ashley's point near the end, education *is* imporant, but memorizing facts just to do well on a test does not an education make. Critical thinking, effective self-expression, and asking and contemplating tough questions is the key.
I went to Hanyang for exchange last year, and one of the professors actually still remembers Peniel!! He mentioned him briefly in class and everyone was real shook hahaha
haha he just said that peniel was chill, and he had asked the prof on advice about if he should continue with school or drop out. And the prof is cool so he just told him to do what he wants!
Can you guys talk about the relationship between celebrities and regular people(in the general sense); like how a lot of people put their Idols / celebrities on a pedestal, give celebrities unrealistic expectations, koreaboos, etc. please??? PS: really love your videos what you guys talk about❤❤❤

Their talks about school is nostalgic for me. I went to the same college as Ashley and my experience was the same. It was an affordable and convenient commuter school for me bc I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I even took that BS Weather & Climate class like Ashely did to fulfill my science requirement and did terrible too 😭 I don’t know how it is nowadays, but it’s criminal that high schools in my day didn’t teach real life skills like personal finance, budgeting, how credit/debit works, and how to file taxes. No matter what career path you end up choosing in life, these are real life skills that every adult will eventually need to deal with. These things should be mandatory in every school curriculum nation wide.
As a Finn, I can attest to the emphasis on the first few grades being more about learning to learn, less about testing. Testing doesn't actually help people learn anyways, it just causes stress. While it is a necessary skill to learn to deal with stress, there needs to be a reason for it. It's more about the quality of time spent learning, not the quantity. That's kinda the way Finland and the Scandinavian countries approach the issue of schooling at the first few grades. And now, the obligatory: "Suomi mainittu! Torille!"
To be honest, ever since we had online school I find myself stressing over certain things like falling behind because I don’t feel smart enough. I think it’s maybe the pressure of wanting to do well so I don’t disappoint anyone, but sometimes it gets too much to the point were I question myself if it’s really worth it?
salem Mola I just want to drop school all together. The fear of not being able to think as smartly as my classmates (if that makes sense) scares me. I know if I drop out I won’t be able to get a good job to basically financially support myself in the future. (I can’t drop out. Why would my mother even let me?)
Adding to Peniel's point for the high school student please work on what you want at your pace and not everyone else's pace. You'll get there. Its okay to try a few or many things to decide what you wanna do and like.
Hello, a Finnish person here. We definitely do have homework and it is not only 10 minutes. I mean it depends on what grade you have. 1-6 grades definitely have less homework, and it also depends on the teacher and subject. Also, might depend on the person. I am a slow person so it usually takes me a while to do school stuff. Can't really compare to anywhere else and am speaking from my own experiences but Finns definitely have homework, but I wouldn't say that it takes all of our time.
Honestly this episode really make me smile, and think back on how I was as a student. As my friend use to call me "Lazy Genius" I never studied but always maintained 90 or above, I never did any homework, because my main goal was getting 90 or above on test, and I would always calculate, the grade I needed on my final to pass the class. I would sleep in some classes, I didnt take any AP classes, until my senior year and even then it was only 3. Basically I didnt try hard in high school. I always said I would never work in a school that was far away from what I was going to do. And now here I am currently working in the field of Education. 😂 Life really comes around. Honestly today was a hard day for me at work, so hearing this really did help me.

I don’t know if our school (in rural Australia) was the exception but when we were in year 9(15/16 years old) we spent a few months learning basic life skills, we had to pretend that we moved to the city, we got “allocated” to a university/community college, we had to apply for real jobs, find a place to live, learn how to use public transport and navigate your way around pre gps, work out a realistic budget that included starting costs bond, furniture buying, tuition fees etc, heck we even learnt a little about government and how to vote( voting is mandatory for everyone in Australia if you’re a citizen). At the end of the course was a school excursion to the city to practice what we learnt. This was before smart phones, when the only internet we had was dial up and very few people had access to it. It was so valuable that when I actually moved to the city 4 years later, I’d like to think it helped me avoid the usual pitfalls when you first leave the nest.

I feel like the more i watch get real the more I'm convince that Me and Peniel have the same brain cells. The way he think and deal with things in life is so Me! It's giving me goosebumps...wow seriously hahaha! If he was able to finish college i think he will say " I finish school just for the sake of finishing it".
I just finished college and I already missed being at school. I feel like as a student, you don't have to think about anything other than school. But now that I am out of school, there are so many responsibilities and decisions that need to be made.
I went back to my 20th high school reunion recently and I was like, "Hi! This is who I should have been in high school." I was bullied in middle school and had the worst social anxiety in high school. I wasn't "ready" socially back then. I had people who I was friendly with but didn't have any real friends. For my college reunions, I'd hang out more with people from the class that graduated before me. (Whoever had a five year reunion would show up to campus.) I have more fun as an adult because I'm catching up on doing things I wouldn't have been comfortable doing otherwise.
Back then I felt like my being alone was a given. I’ve gradually come to realize that while I like being social and hanging out with my friends I sometimes prefer being alone and I’ll make it a point to make sure I have alone time if I’m busy with social stuff.
Same in France, you study with the same people all day and the teachers go from class to class. Times you move out of your class are for specific classes like sciences
here in London, they expect us to know what career we want to take at the age of 13-14 and if you don't know you are really pressured to quickly choose :(
Im not a fan of podcast but then i stumbled upon GET REAL in spotify. Now im here on youtube watching every episode. I never knew listening to other people talking about random stuff could be so fun and relatable.
I love this episode a lot I swear. Schooling is always the problem for me even until now while i'm studying abroad at 25 but just study online, no college no friends due to COVID-19 ( it really sucks). Actually I don't really like studying that much but I wanna go to college, communicate with everyone and make new friends, learn new things. But I'm stucking in lockdown, struggling with a bunch of assignments and mental health, overthinking what I'm gonna do in life and who I wanna be, which job I wanna do in the future. I know I'll figure it out but still feel so stress. Anyway, be happy and do whatever you like, that's what we do to enjoy this life. Have a great day mateeee!
its so funny how they switch talking between america and korea's schools while i am here in europe still in middle school where the system is just completely different lmaoooo
I’ve been in college for about three semesters and I haven’t talked to anyone unless we have to do a group project. But then after that I never talk to them again.
I've had mini debates/ranted about the Korean and overall Asian school system before. They work the kids so hard that they don't get to really have any life outside of school until college. I've heard of a lot of boarding schools too which sounds even worse bc then you never get to leave school. But there are for sure pros and cons to all the different systems. The kids there are definitely super smart even if they were worked to the bone to get to that level.
I was just like Ashley in high school, was very shy and only had a few friends, but in junior high I had a clique we was called the stoners. Lol. I would hate if I was in the same class with the same kids all day.
Kinda agree on what Ashley & BM said that how you succeed in school doesn’t exactly define what you will be in future, and school is more like a ‘commitment’ test to measure on how much you are being committed in doing or pursue something. However, for the younger generation I feel the need to say that school & formal education is still very important. Like math, even if you won’t be a mathematician one day, you still need to at least understand math since it goes as the basis of every cognitive ability. So it is not exactly the theory that is important but it’s more like the ‘way of thinking’.
This topic is so fun to listen to especially when they share how they were in school, those fun and not so fun moments. Also Peniel and his "huh" moments :>>>
I was so surprised when Finland got mentioned. How Ashley described it is quite correct. We do have regular lessions like math and stuff but it’s really balansed because we also learn to sew, knit, build stuff out of wood, use tools and in junior high we learn how to cook and clean properly also. The stress of getting good grades begins around senior high because of finals and to get into university and college.
I think I know what I want to do in high school, but I'm a junior. But if anyone is worried about that you can try to find an area to study that seems interesting to you and while studying that you can find a major that fits it. Lots of college students change majors while in school to take classes that focus on something else.
i love this show .. ive bben addicted to it ever since covid hit Europe... i didn't know u guys from kpop .. but kinda learn about k pop and ur respective groups through this show.. i love ur personalities u guys are really entertaining and relatable i feel close to u .. because the languges and ur experiences are similar to mine keep up and i'm always listening
25:16 i think the word BM was looking for there was Parity. Sounds really similar to equity, but parity is the one that means things are equal. It's confusing because equity starts with equ like equal does lol.
I feel BM, I was chill with everyone in high school but not the popular kids (the dudes and gals who were like everyone’s crushes). I played football/wrestling but also liked anime so I was chill with the jocks, the artsy kids, tech kids. It was chill to be around different people and hearing all their stories.
I don't know when they stopped doing this but when I was in school and I'm probably about 20 years older than you guys we had a test called the ASFAB that we would take for sophomore and junior year and depending on your results sometimes the military would come calling. Either because you have a certain aptitude for being a mercenary or really good with your hands that kind of thing. Basically it was a test to see where your skills read how your brain works and what careers would be good for you. Also in Florida when I grew up in high school they did have classes that was for home living that helped you learn how to balance your checkbook and taxes and how to budget your money and how to budget your time open a checking account and helped you get ready for the real world. The problem with it was that it was an elective so a lot of people didn't take the class. Those who did learned a lot and they were a little more prepared for the real world.
Thank you Ashley, Peniel, and BM. I come here every time i feel blue, y'all help me to cheer me up while listening to y'all stories, idk how, but i'm so thankful you guys doing this podcast, once again, thank you❤️ always support you guys❤️
dayumm babies back it again with another vid i honestly cant live without GET REAL with bm, ashley and peniel no more p.s: im watching this podcast while drunk so i feel like im hanging out with u guys, it gives another vibe i hightly reccomended 🔥
Matthew saying that most people in high school didn't knew what they wanted to be makes Portuguese schools really scary because you choose your "career path" when you enter high school ( there's sciences, visual arts, languages, economy, etc) and you need to choose when you're 14/15 years old and you entering university and the exams you need to take all rely on that choice you made.
I really hope your guys keep doing this series on DIVE I would be so sad if you guys stopped! I love listening to you guys especially during these times of uncertainty, thank you Ashley, Peniel and BM 💕
I can totally relate to what they were saying any local colleges and still living with their parents. I felt the exact same way. All school and no social life. Lol it was like hs but worse cuz I didn't have as many friends with me. Once I studied abroad and lived in dorms is when I really feel like I got the college experience and I appreciated it so much. I just wish it lasted longer and I did more at the time
I spent my school days also not knowing what I want to do with my life and I still don't know. I mean, I'm not a person that can live with a desk job but of course my parents expect to have that stable job. I just feel that I need to give myself more time to explore......
Looking back, I love my high school live. The best time of my life actually (minus the stupid heartbreak and emo phase). Friends, seniors, teachers, dance practice after school, cafetaria, foods, and all the the stupid drama and laugh. Miss them so much! 🖤
I remember my first day in school, I was never scare, but that change until I move out to the State, at least I get lost 5 times in the first week (due to my lack of English). Now I’m moving out to a new city and the craziness start again
I like this channel, all their topics they talk about are very interesting and kind of useful. The three together are a good team, please give us more videos.
from finland and the school thing is pretty correct. education is free and we have to go to school. u can get fined and they might inform child welfare if you don't go there for a long time without a good reason. in 1-6 grade we have to go to school for 4-6 hours everyday and we do not get a lot of homework in middle school the school days get a bit longer, 6 hours/day and doing homework takes like 30 minutes and if you go to highschool your school day depends on how many school subjects you pick. many of the subjects are mandatory but u can (and should) pick additional subjects. last semester my school days ranged from 3 hours to 8 hours
Great. Thanks for sharing your past high school experiences. I'm sorry to hear that your had difficult experiences in your high school maths classes. It's disappointing to hear this as an Australian and Asian maths teacher with over 10 years experience....I always explain to my classes how all the mathematical formulas and concepts are related to the real world. For example, knowing how to do taxes is so important when becoming an adult but then again I'm also a business teacher too. You guys are more than welcome to come and hang out with me in my maths classes that I teach when you're free of course. Just make sure that you have a blue card (children safety card).

I agree I really love Zoey 101 that was also my favorite show too 😍💕👏
here in London, they expect us to know what career we want to take at the age of 13-14 and if you don't know you are really pressured to quickly choose :(
The shudder that went through me at the mention of math and it being fun. Math was the bane of my existence
Lindsay Stenico same 😭
Im not a fan of podcast but then i stumbled upon GET REAL in spotify. Now im here on youtube watching every episode. I never knew listening to other people talking about random stuff could be so fun and relatable.
actually learning math gives you analytical and problem solving skills, so even if you don't use it you get the mindset
hands down my fav episode, I have never ever listened to a full episode before of a podcast but now I have.
Have a great day mateeee!
peniel and bm say "oh really" at the same time and pneiel looks at bm for a reaction and don't get one
its so funny how they switch talking between america and korea's schools while i am here in europe still in middle school where the system is just completely different lmaoooo
Me every time a podcast is coming to an end: 🥺🥺🥺🥺
Lots of college students change majors while in school to take classes that focus on something else.
i love this show .. ive bben addicted to it ever since covid hit Europe... i didn't know u guys from kpop .. but kinda learn about k pop and ur respective groups through this show..
i love ur personalities u guys are really entertaining and relatable
i feel close to u .. because the languges and ur experiences are similar to mine
keep up and i'm always listening
My friend told me “you’re very quiet but if you’re toking about bts you’re like wow”
I want them to talk about Gaming, Productivity and/or Procrastination :D Thanks Dive Studios for the Podcasts!
25:16 i think the word BM was looking for there was Parity. Sounds really similar to equity, but parity is the one that means things are equal. It's confusing because equity starts with equ like equal does lol.
High school: I remember Pythagorean Theorem and The powerhouse of the cell
We had after school lessons with a bunch of students from different schools so thats how we met new people.
That sounds fun
@@ivoflo it really was... So you weren't always with one clique of people.
It sounds so funny when Peniel says.. its Peniel from BTOB haah
I come here every time i feel blue, y'all help me to cheer me up while listening to y'all stories, idk how, but i'm so thankful you guys doing this podcast, once again, thank you❤️ always support you guys❤️
dayumm babies back it again with another vid
i honestly cant live without GET REAL with bm, ashley and peniel no more
p.s: im watching this podcast while drunk so i feel like im hanging out with u guys, it gives another vibe i hightly reccomended 🔥
18:34 I am literally Sooo suprised he mentioned that mall especially since I go to that mall often
Bruh I took an aptitude test in middle school and got CLOWN. professional CLOWN. I've had self esteem issues ever since 😂
I really hope your guys keep doing this series on DIVE I would be so sad if you guys stopped! I love listening to you guys especially during these times of uncertainty, thank you Ashley, Peniel and BM 💕
I LOVE THIS PODCAST. BIG TIDDIE GANG
The way Ashley described her high school experience is literally the same for me too
I can totally relate to what they were saying any local colleges and still living with their parents. I felt the exact same way. All school and no social life. Lol it was like hs but worse cuz I didn't have as many friends with me. Once I studied abroad and lived in dorms is when I really feel like I got the college experience and I appreciated it so much. I just wish it lasted longer and I did more at the time
Aaa www Ashley talking about zoey101 just brought me so many good memories! I loved that show
I know right~?? I squealed when she said she watched it...*cries* I miss that show sooo much along with other shows...🥺🤧😭❤️❤️⭐️⭐️
I spent my school days also not knowing what I want to do with my life and I still don't know.
I’m so glad I found this. Keep killin it!!
Thank you Dive studios for keeping me sane during this endless quarantine. ❤️ I love all your podcast. Especially this one!!!
My school teaches us about taxes in our junior year which I’m starting in like 3 days
I remember my first day in school, I was never scare, but that change until I move out to the State, at least I get lost 5 times in the first week (due to my lack of English).
Now I’m moving out to a new city and the craziness start again
This was such a relatable podcast, honestly I agreed with basically everything they said. It does help that I'm American though lol
I like this channel, all their topics they talk about are very interesting and kind of useful. The three together are a good team, please give us more videos.
Peniel is me talking abt mathematics 😂😂😂😂
Also, we're not allowed to use calculators in India 😂😂😂 we use our hands that way too 😂😂
from finland and the school thing is pretty correct. education is free and we have to go to school. u can get fined and they might inform child welfare if you don't go there for a long time without a good reason.
in 1-6 grade we have to go to school for 4-6 hours everyday and we do not get a lot of homework
in middle school the school days get a bit longer, 6 hours/day and doing homework takes like 30 minutes
and if you go to highschool your school day depends on how many school subjects you pick. many of the subjects are mandatory but u can (and should) pick additional subjects. last semester my school days ranged from 3 hours to 8 hours
Just make sure that you have a blue card (children safety card).
fam the real test is doing the hw while the teachers collecting it
The thing is TOEFL is easier than Korean SAT
