Apple Pencil USB-C - why does it exist?

- The Apple Pencil (USB-C) is quite an interesting new accessory for the iPad lineup. I really wonder why Apple didn't release this last year with the iPad 10th gen... but nonetheless I'm glad that users now have an even more affordable option to pick from stylus wise if they aren't desperately in need of pressure sensitivity, wireless charging and double tap with their iPad 10th gen, iPad mini, iPad Air or iPad Pro workflow!

As a student who mostly note takes, the feature that I cannot live without is the double tap for erasing a mistake and getting back to writing quickly especially while a teacher or lecturer is speaking and you don't want to miss anything. Bummer that that apple did not bring that to this pencil. Great video Noah!
I have the 1st gen and yes the thing you mentioned is so annoying, goodnotes 5 had a cool feature it would select the pen again after the eraser but in goodnotes 6 it just solved my problem:D, just scribble it.

S Pen from Samsung is far better has a dedicated button for eraser
@@nafeeahnaf6296 you might be right but for that I have to move to a Samsung tablet. As of now the only feature that might entice me is Dex. And it’s not important enough for me to change. Ecosystem and all.

I think this product makes sense for an average user who just wants the basics
As its stands now this pencil makes the lineup look weird. And I do agree this should have launched last year and that apple should also have removed the Apple Pencil 1 and iPad 9. From a consumer perspective that would have made much more sense. However I think apple just did this to sell out their stock of soon to be discontinued products. Once the Apple Pencil gen 1 is gone this usb c pencil makes much more sense as an entry product alongside iPad 10. I do believe apple will discontinue the iPad 9 and the Apple Pencil gen 1 in 2024.
Exactly many people don't realise how and why things happen.... That gen1 pencil is by no means cheap so they would surely have to clear out that product first... If they had introduced this new pencil with the 10gen ipad, most people wouldn't buy the gen 1 pencil

This new Apple Pencil also supports the Hover feature on the M2 iPad Pro, like the 2nd gen pencil

hey great video - I just got the 6 th gen IPad pro12.9 and of course my 1st gen Apple pencil won't work but I only need one occasionally to write on music sheets for marking a key change or a liitle note on a sound I may want to use playing my Nord keyboard so yeah this video made sense for me and now will just get he USB -C as it is not like I draw or need all the bells and whistles with it - Thanks man

with Microsoft and Samsung having their Stylus so effective yearly, apple has NO excuse to bring this out in 2023. it should have been 2018. it amazes me too as an Apple user

They made it come out late this year... Even when they already could have let it out last year with the 10th gen ipad is because the 1st gen pencil was in stock and it was not cheap so if they had let this pencil out last year then the 1st gen pencil which is 89 dollars would not make any sales.... They would lose money so in order to clear out the old stock and make money off it , they let the new pencil come out late this year when they had almost cleared out their Gen 1 pencil stocks

I have a ninth generation iPad so with the lighting port, if I were to buy an Apple Pencil USB-C can I connect it to the iPad using the iPad charger cable? the cable has 2 ports, a lighting (which goes into the ipad) and a usb-c (the one that goes directly into the charger). If I were to use that cable would I have any problems or incompatibilities between the pen and the iPad?

Why would any tablet pen need chargingvto begin with. The best stylus on any tablet since early 1990’s are waccoms, they don’t need charging, they are way more precise, they feel 10 times better, the tech can be licenced by anyone, all samsung devices use it, many tablet PCs or 2 in 1 PCs do to. Every artists I know in the industry used wacom battery less pens for the last 30+ years. Apple should stop recycling 1970’s junk tech at one point.

Not even the USB-C Apple Pencil is worth it. Just get a third-party one, there’s a UGREEN one which offers everything (other than the design and magnetic attachment, small changes there) for around USD 50. Even there’s a magnetic version for the ones supporting 2nd gen Apple Pencil, selling around the same price at 50 USD.

The only reason that this Apple Pencil exists is so that the existence of the iPad 10th Generation *kind of* makes sense 😅 I mean at least this Apple Pencil is cheaper!

They just gatekeep devices. Same with the m chips in the iPad. Wow ok so the pro models have the freakin m2 chips but can’t do more than the iPad 10th generation.
This pen is absolutely a waste of materials.
As an apple user myself, I will go with the iPad Air 5, even though the iPad 10th would be perfectly fine but I refuse this stupid decision with the pen.

No pressure sensitivity? no tilt sensitivity? is it 1973 or 2023? Wacom battery less pens knockoff with no pressure sensitivity sells for 5 bucks. This crap should sell for 2.

Unfortunately if you're an artist and you use the base level ipad the problem still exists because you're forced into using the gen 1 pencil. That pencil is the reason why I upgraded to the air gen 4 with the 2nd gen pencil because paying extra has been absolutely irreplaceable for me just for the convenience alone. They need to do better honestly. The solution is so clunky
same for me! i bought the 10th gen without realizing it wasn't compatible with the 2nd generation... instantly took it back when i saw the lack of pen pressure

@saintfuki I've had mine for 3 years now, I'm looking to get a pro, I'm gonna see if a new one comes out in the next few years and I'll probably grab that one because I miss the 120hz of my phone and I need the better processor and storage for my art
To push people buying much expensive Pencil with terrible charging method or paying a lot more for much expensive iPad Air & iPad Pro just to use 2nd Gen Apple Pencil

Apple started making me confused horrifically
This is the way that Apple takes the money.
Apple need to make the Pencil 2 support on the next 11th gen iPad or else the whole standard iPad lineup will lose pressure sensitivity capability after the Pencil 1 discontinue next year which will be the last year Apple can make non USB C wired charging device!
Maybe Apple will release USB C mouse and keyboards next year to update the M3 iMac to replace the Lighting accessories like this new USB C Apple Pencil

I use procreate and good notes. I don’t always like the double tap.

My daughter is 11 y o, loves to draw. I got her the ipad 9 last year but returned it cuz I wasnt impressed at all. Now - is the ipad 10 worth getting with the usb-c apple pencil? Or would you say better go for the air 4 with apple pencil 2? The ipad 10 features that I like: the camera orientation, maybe actually the nonlaminated display since its cheaper to replace just in case my kid is still a kid 😅... Features of the air 4 I prefer: apple pencil 2, better speakers, laminated display, better performing chip a14. What would you do??! Any input is much appreciated. The 10 is priced very similar to the air 4 refurbed.
The usb-c Apple Pencil is absolutely horrible, I lost my 2nd gen one and the new one I have (the usb-c type) doesn’t even have the core features which make a drawing pencil good, like pressure sensitivity
Just got one to use with my m4 iPad Pro, I miss my gen 2 but I don’t draw so I couldn’t justify the pencil pro on top the new iPad 10/10 pencil and 10/10 video
same with my ipad air m2, as only a note taker, the apple pencil pro is just too expensive

It exists because you can buy a stylus for 20 bucks with the same capabilities of that trash. Apple figured they should make a knock off of their own product to get in on that action. People will be dumb enough to buy it simply because it has the fruit on it.
