    An Uncle had the same engine, he did a few mods to it, like a computer tune, different injectors and turbo and exhaust mods on the stock engine. Pulling a heavy backhoe up a long grade one day, it began to lose power and started knocking and smoking very badly. It finally quit. He had it towed to a performance diesel shop, and they found the crankshaft was broke in three different pieces. That Callies crank they are using looks very interesting.

    I like the fixture that he uses with the dial bore gauge. I am so used to seeing people holding the dial bore gauge directly to the outside micrometer to calibrate it, and I have no idea how that can possibly be accurate.
    I was surprised to hear that the .001 inch of clearance for every 1 inch of crank journal rule still applied to diesels. I'm so used to seeing wider clearances on everything diesel, because of how much more pressure it puts on components when compared to gasoline engines.

    Unless you go aftermarket main caps or you’ve spun a bearing, line hone is overkill and not necessary but to each his own. Crank is overkill too.

    • @MustangIsKing
      @MustangIsKing 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're changing from main bolts to main studs then a line hone is necessary as they torque on the caps different and distort the caps differently

    • @Blackneck1994
      @Blackneck1994 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      LML cranks are junk, a goal of 1000hp and even a brand new LML crank is sketchy at best. Reusing a stock crank, especially LML, is just asking to pull the motor again. And no one with half a brain would install a new crank into a Duramax without checking line bore and line honing at minimum. Not uncommon for them to get line bored.

    PLEASE do a video on the Ford 3.2 Liter Powerstroke!!! do not get confused with the new 3 liter, I wanna see big numbers with their older 3.2! It was the lowest powered engine offered in the Transit from 2015 to 2019. It is a 4 stroke inline 5! Stock 185 HP and 350TQ. I have dreams of buying one and dropping it in a car to drift, but I financially will never get to see that itty bitty block turn into a pocket rocket diesel. One of the smallest diesels Ford ever made, and has a TERRIBLE reputation for its power output. For the low price and size, I've always had the biggest hunch it could be a power house if the stock turbo was upgraded, FI played with, and a solid tune. I would sh*t and giggle to prove my friends wrong on the 3.2!!! Please do a build on it!!!!!

    Do any of you ppl ever answer questions that can really help "Joe American" w/ his truck issues ??
    I have a 1999 Ford F-150 w/a 5.4 V8. I understand the aluminum heads are very thin where the spark plugs thread in. That's why I've had 3 spark plugs already blown through the threads having to be fixed w/helicoils. I understand they can't be fixed twice. Solve this problem for good.
    Questions :
    a) do you know of this problem ?
    b) do you have a recommendation you could share ?
    c) are there aftermarket or other heads available that don't have the same problem & could fit this engine ?
    Thanks for your generous consideration,
    Steph (Stephen Boeker)

    I remember seeing a product that it's a paint but the oil runs off it so the oil returns to the pan faster and keeps the oil off of the motor making it easier to clean. I can't remember the brand or name of it so I guess someone's going to have to Google hahaha

    I have a question. I was looking at that block and I was thinking how similar a gasoline and diesel block were and then I thought, “would it be possible to convert a gas engine to a diesel?”

    • @samuelyi9189
      @samuelyi9189 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eh. You can, but it’s not really realistic. Diesel engines have much much more compression than gas engines, and the stress and vibrations involved, the fuel injection system. It’s not worth to do that

    won't the turbo cause heat problems because it's in the valley? like the BMW's that had that problem

    • @agoogleuser1188
      @agoogleuser1188 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's where the 7.3s turbo is

    • @cobaltlukather9045
      @cobaltlukather9045 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      a lot of manufacturers have a "hot-V" setup with the turbos in the valley. more advanced heat shields and intercoolers overcome those problems.
