- Qanga was recently released to Early Access by a small French indie studio iolaCorp.
Taking clear inspiration from Star Citizen, like a working transit system, functional hover vehicles and spaceships with interior access, is definitely a project to keep an eye out for (under 5 employees)
Steam: store.steampow...

@LazyBunnyKiera This tiny French indie studio iolaCorp, is listed to have under 10 employees and by checking their LinkedIn profile, it can be seen that there are only 4 of them - 1x dev, 2x artists and 1x UX/UI freelancer.
Qanga was in development for 6-8 months before hitting Early Access on Steam. If such a miniscule team, with under 1 year's work they've managed physicalised ships/interiors/hangars, hover vehicles, a huge transit system, missions, space flight, EVA, multiple planets and some token mobs for flavour (not kopion quality but...), it makes you wonder how very talented these people are.
And it does have multiplayer as well, but unfortunately their "official" servers lack the population to fully test that part.
As an early backer of Star Citizen, when I first saw this project, I was in awe, and brought back that feeling back in 2014-5 when we first made it out of our hangars and out the airlock at Port Olisar!
Keep in mind, they didn't develop their own engine.. Developing an engine alongside developing a game takes a lot of time.Especially when you're trying to develop a new type of server meshing...
That could quite literally change the way games are developed in the future. If they get the coating and the programming down for dynamic server measuring. That's the true goal of star citizen..
CIG/Star citizen should hire this french team. So both games can be delayed.
😂
nice to see games inspired from Starcitizen
It feels more like Empyrion than Star Citizen.
anyone else think, that that aircraft is legit the avenger with dimensions changed n stuff but no legit they should be hired, maybe that can help cig a tiny bit
@Twinkies_ZA It is not a secret that CIG (Star Citizen) has taken inspiration from CCP (EVEonline) and Frontier (Elite Dangerous) games and via versa. When you have 100's of ships borrowing "familiar" shapes from decades of sci-fi lore, movies and fan fiction, it is hard to innovate anything new, without any likeness to something already there.
What separates CIG from the rest, is the extreme detail and attention that has gone into the interior (as well as exterior) of each spaceship, which of course is their bread and butter income-wise but of course it requires a lot of time and resources to achieve.
And these companies are not your evil overlords, like Nintendo and Sony that would litigate your existence off the earth, even if there is the tiniest of likeness to their very generic "patented" assets. Likeness brings iteration, which is the fundamental basis of all improvement, and thus end users.
BTW there was a recent live stream of CIG vs EVEonline devs, where there were a few quips about who's copying whom, all in good spirits of course ;)
I bought it. its an interesting idea.
it looks like they are only striving for a multiplayer aspect (not massive multiplayer), so im curious how they will make it so that it doesn't seem like you are just by yourself in a lifeless universe the entire time. Other than that fundamental issue they would need to address, it's looking good, except for the terrain generation is pretty generically bad....but it's still alpha.
The sound track is from flight of the navigator I think.
Are there continuous updates?
I am more interested in trying this out, than relearning SC new crappy flight model (redoing key bindings etc).
Questions:
1) does it have full 6-degrees of control in the flight model, i.e. pre- master modes SC?
2) does it work with tobii and vkb sticks?
3) Can i set a camera view under the craft looking at landing gear, as per camera bind keys in SC?
Feels like sugar-high twitch shooter which ruins the immersion before being able to consider anything else
How long they took to get to this stage?🤔
@muhschaf Check pinned comment for details.
@@snowmind holy, if my card is back i will check it defenetly out, have already bought it.
Huv this gem 30 sec desync like sc?
Have this gem 100 player servers with multiple planets like SC ?
Holy copy batman
Here we go again... A game that's not gonna be able to do the same thing as star citizen and people are going to compare it... This game will never have dynamic server meshing. So who cares.
5 people and it's already to the point SC was after like 8 years of development with many times more employees. So tired of CR's terrible project management.
Ask the Qanga team to implement the same kind of multiplayer technology in star citizen. I mean, even ask them to add the same planetary generation tech and you'll add 5 years to Qangas development.
Its easier to have something to copy than making it from scratch.
@@scelluna SC has ZERO innovation in itself. Nothing new, just an aggregate of all that exists. So yeah, you're right.
@@scelluna It's also easier to use a functional engine haha
@@Caennuck Well there was no such engine that would work for Star Citizen. Then what? They have tried several. And after that they made their own.
