My father was one of the first in Franklin Co Ohio to shell corn. In 1955 he took his Massey combine to Schmidt’s Machine in Upper Sandusky and they put a new idea corn head on it. He shelled everywhere.
Great video Mike! Those bin extenders look a little hokey, like they were homemade. I'm sure they weren't. They fold down, don't they. Well, I'm not going to judge a combine by its bin extensions alone. lol! Nice set up all around though.
Hey Mike - The 5+ inches of rain in SW Ohio ~week of 21 sept sprouted a ton of beans in every harvested field. Are these beans too low to the ground that the the heads can't reach? Pass through of small beans by the combine? Both? Also looks like some machines had grain leaks where there were thick stripes in the fields. Seems like a lot of grain as the fields are uniformly green.
Combines have to be one of the most amazing pieces of equipment on a farm. Imagine 100 years ago a farmer telling the New Holland salesman he would like to buy a device that could enter a field of ripe corn on one end and emerge on the other end with nothing but clean grain in the hopper. And, by the way, I want it to tell me the yield per acre and moisture content. It must also be able to steer itself. Great video, Mike.
I've seen that bin extension on combines in Europe. Wondering what are the +/- vs American style. Also, it seems to me that many farmers feel OEM headers are not as good as aftermarket. Why is that?
How has your yield been? Initiatives including waving (canceling) property taxes for farmers that own less than 1,000 acres should be put in place; this would decrease inputs and there fore help with their overhead. This must be instituted as small farmers (defined as anything less than 1,000 acres totals) will be struggling this year to turn a profit, most corn farmers are looking a $1.00 per acre loss this year, extremely tragic.
Beautyful Harvesting, good health family
Thanks Mike !

But I’ve also seen what a grill master you are so you bring the meat for supper and I’ll provide the cold snacks
