Hiking behind Snoqualmie Falls.

  • Went hiking the other day. Had to check out Snowqualmie falls in Washington. At first glance we thought there was no possible way to get even close to the waterfall! After much dangerous climbing, hiking and a short swim, we were able to get behind the falls. My buddy, Joe, and I were able to make it all the way behind to the other side!! Intense!!!!

Totally me and my buddies back in high school (1977). No cells then, didn’t document, such fun, great memories. Goggles and wet sox were a must. These days security would make it very difficult to get away with such things. We also walked the railroad tracks on the other side and explored the woods. Again, not something many do anymore I suspect.

I am impressed this was truly epic. While we were in Washington we skipped going to these falls. I had tore the ligaments in my knee and figured it would be to hard to do the complete hike. We did study the history of the falls with our daughters. We have put it on our list of places to explore next time we are in Washington.
    Thank you

Too bad they made it harder to get over those rails. Gotta find another way to get down there now.

Pretty much impossible to do this any more. Only way to climb over the railings on the trail is to have good climbing ropes, and there are often people monitoring the trail to keep anyone from trying to climb over. Really a shame this has happened, I used to love getting close to the falls to take photos.

Tom Ellis what was the reason

@@percyespinoza7461 When PSE rebuilt the trail into the falls a couple of years ago they designed the railings so no one can climb over easily anymore, and blocked access at the end of the trail. Used to be a pretty easy climb, on nice summer days there would be dozens of people at the base of the falls. I am a wedding photographer, and I used to take brides/grooms there for photos. Now almost no one gets in, you pretty much need climbing gear to do it. No way someone wearing a wedding dress is getting in!

Search and Rescue got tired of coming to get people that had slipped on the rocks and broken something. There's that one guy in the video that slipped. If he'd hit his head the video would have had a very different feel. I think there was a threat of a lawsuit from someone too.
