Not a religious person, however the explanation of this painting in the movie ,I found quite intriguing. It actually had me seeking out a copy of the painting just to be able to follow the train of thought presented.
“Peter’s hand is on John’s shoulder”. Why is the color of Peter’s sleeve, on that hand, not the same color as the sleeve on the hand holding the knife? Time: 7:59.
It looks to me like what we're seeing with his hand that's near John, actually IS the color of the other sleeve right there just under his wrist. This makes me think that what I'm seeing that's a different color could be like a mantle draping over his actual sleeve. A lot of prophets wore mantles back then - Samuel, Elijah, Elisha - and Peter would fit the role of a prophet. That's my interpretation of why the difference, anyway.
The mantle is covering most of the sleeve, but you can can see the blue cuff of the sleeve. His hand is not on HER shoulder. He is whispering to her and and gesturing towards Jesus. Honestly, if that's a man, da Vinci had a stroke when he painted 'him'. She does not look masculine in any way. Compare her to the men surrounding her.
The artist was indeed a unique person with a genius, exceptional intellectual or creative power or other natural ability. It is entirely possible that he knew what he was doing by placing hidden secrets in his painting.
The painting is thought to be a depiction of the argument over transubstantiation, when Jesus says This is my body, this is my blood. Those on the right of Jesus accept this as true, those on Jesus'a left are repulsed.
There are two Last Supper paintings being used in this narration. Looks like one of them copied Leonardo's, but the faces look different. You can easily tell the difference. And the reference to the bag Judas is holding as possibly the 30 pieces of silver he received for betraying Jesus is simply ridiculous since his betrayal and receipt of the silver hasn't happened yet. There are many other discrepancies in this. Not very well done.

His name is Leonardo. Stop calling him Da Vinci. Just like Rafaello, Michelangelo, Donatello and ALL the Italian masters. Remember? It used to be like that. Even the teenie ninjy turtles were named by their first names.
You can create narratives out of any painting to suit your purpose be it this or Mona lisa or Michael Angelo's frescoes. I take it with a pinch of salt.
Bread and wine - it's the passover meal, not some random eating together that accidentally foreshadows communion. How many hand does Judas have? - 1 clutching bag, 1 reaching for bread, and an unknown plural number hiding under the table to symbolize deceit. Not much thought went into this analysis.
Does anyone know that this is just a picture dreamed up by the painter? Has nothing to do with what went on at the last supper. Unfortunately everyone there left there cameras at home that day
I'm not a religious person. What I see is a beautiful painting of men, and a woman, conversing while enjoying a meal. Da Vinci was a brilliant man, but he had no positive proof that the supposed last supper happened at all, or in this manner.
Why are the archways/windows on the left high, but low on the right? Why 10 large pieces of bread on the table, and 6 small pieces (assuming that is bread too), when there are 13 of them? Did they order a table for 26, but all wanted to sit on one side? Or are they looking out a window as well, and setting tables to the wall for the view was normal in those days?
The name Da Vinci is written in the tablecloth below Christ but you have to turn the painting upside down to see it. I saw this on Unsolved Mysteries years ago.. just wanted you to know!
I am a Christian, believe wholy in Jesus but I think this picture has been way over thought. Some of these things are just natural human posing and don't mean a thing. You can see alot of things in any picture and decide what's going on.
Many artists were commissioned to paint these religious paintings. The bible was used as a reference along with the desires of the Church (who often commissioned such paintings). Many artists, like da Vinci, would sneak in their own ideas and interpretations.
Sorry, I'm still not convinced that is John to the right of Jesus. Once you see Mary Magdalene in that figure, the idea just won't go away. And Mary was way more that what the canonical texts tell us. Remember, it was She to whom Christ first revealed Himself. If you research the ancient Egyptian origins of the name, Mary, you might understand. Margot Kinstler's book, "The Moon Under Her Feet," is also most enlightening to the open mind. Incidentally, if someone has seen a musical score in the arrangement of the items on the table, what is it? Tell us more!
I think I saw a documentary where the feminine figure to Jesus’ right was initially sketched to be positioned on His left, leaning in to Jesus, leading to the belief that it was Mary Magdalene. It went way more in depth, and I wish I could find it
I really wanted to believe John was indeed Mary Magdalene but there were manuscripts by DaVinci discovered and he mentioned that John was one of the disciples 😢

Maybe people read too much into it and its just a cool painting.
Gosh, that’s way too simple and makes way too much sense.
I already know that Peter holding a knife behind his back and I already know what Judas did already betray Jesus because i’ve heard it in a different video. Thanks for explaining it.
His name is Leonardo. Stop calling him Da Vinci. Just like Rafaello, Michelangelo, Donatello and ALL the Italian masters. Remember? It used to be like that. Even the teenie ninjy turtles were named by their first names.
Is the original painting shown anywhere in this video? All I've seen is over elaborate later copies.
It's not the Last Supper... It's the last Passover.
The first Lords Supper. 🥖 🍷
Let's meet half way. Call it the Last Pass Supper.
Judas was supposed to tip the wait staff😅
He stiffed them .
How do you know which is which with no photos?
Does anyone know that this is just a picture dreamed up by the painter? Has nothing to do with what went on at the last supper. Unfortunately everyone there left there cameras at home that day
I'm not a religious person. What I see is a beautiful painting of men, and a woman, conversing while enjoying a meal. Da Vinci was a brilliant man, but he had no positive proof that the supposed last supper happened at all, or in this manner.
Fish wasn’t the meat at the last supper
I don’t like to complicate my paintings……I just like to enjoy them!🙂
Are they reaching for same piece of bread?
It rather looks like Judas reach for the bread while Jesus is going to grip the glass of wine.
All it tells us is that nobody was prepared to sit around the table like normal people.
Why were so many renditions of The Last Supper used in the discussion of Leonardo's Last Supper? I found that distracting and confusing.
Most patient waiter in history
Wish someone had ironed the tablecloth
It doesn't matter. The picture isn't a true dispiction of the event. Not 1 scandavian was there.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Active imaginations will soar.
Why is there a chalice painted on the closest pillar on the left?
Good question!
He said was truly ahead of his time
Perspective is important. When you refer to Jesus's right it means the left side of the painting.
Christ, sometimes a painting is just a painting...
Not when it's a mastepiece.
@thisone9
That's a matter of opinion.
Not everyone is a fan of Da Vinci, regardless of his varied 'creations'.
@@Logans3Run Not when you've studied symbolism in art over the ages and expressive compositional principles.
@thisone9
"Symbolism" being the operative word based on speculated events, carried out by characters that are more than likely, entirely fictional.
I wish the focus had remained on the original painting to match the commentary. I was distracted by the continual swift shifts away from it.
This is only one man’s representation of something that may not have taken place. All man’s imagination.
It's a painting - not a real life situation.
@@gusmonster59what, are you saying Jesus wasn't real? #thepopewillhuntyoudown 😂😂
amazing concept i think it is mary always have x
"We'd like a table for 26, please..."
"But...there's only 13 of you..."
"Yeah but, we all want to sit on the same side of the table..."
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. But who a re we to decide
what is that man saying to that lady? "meet me around back for a good time" LOL
That's Not JOHN.....That's MARY MAGDALENE !
I agree with you. Mary Magdalena wouldn't have been acknowledged because she was a woman. The disciples were not as progressive as Jesus.
Or the very first non binary person in history
So this painting was produced nearly 1500 years after the event how did the artist get the information
Many artists were commissioned to paint these religious paintings. The bible was used as a reference along with the desires of the Church (who often commissioned such paintings). Many artists, like da Vinci, would sneak in their own ideas and interpretations.
Judas' hands are in full sight, Not hidden below the table, as the narrator claims.
Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code already explained this.
That doesn't look like a "John" to me.
I think I saw a documentary where the feminine figure to Jesus’ right was initially sketched to be positioned on His left, leaning in to Jesus, leading to the belief that it was Mary Magdalene. It went way more in depth, and I wish I could find it
John's/Mary's hands are calmly folded. Is it because Jesus had already confided in him/her?
This was not a photograph, it is his interpretation! So disturbing.
I really wanted to believe John was indeed Mary Magdalene but there were manuscripts by DaVinci discovered and he mentioned that John was one of the disciples 😢
“ ok, guys, if you want to be in the photo come over to this side of the table “
