Glad you touched on the Bootcamps. I'm in one now and it just makes me cringe. First, I should disclose I did not have to pay for mine, but I do want people to understand that if you don't have a background in coding learn the basics of coding first. There can be arguments for both sides. I have an AS in CS and I'm about a year out from a BS. However, I was looking to gain some practical skills which is what brought me to a bootcamp. I've learned the practical application through the bootcamp, but it was only worth it because I already knew the basics. I'm halfway done and there are people that don't understand the basics of variables, objects, classes, functions, methods.... and it just makes me wonder how bootcamps can truly advertise that zero to hero. If you don't understand the basics, you will be so hung up on the simple things that the rest of content will not even register.
Correct and that really what I meant by that statement. It will just spit out more code (that the user wouldn’t understand) and say “here I made a change, try this code”. But the user would just be endlessly copying and pasting. Then you have to get into what’s involved with actually compiling the code and publishing an application. Or if you have a website or web app actually hosting it once you do get some decent code generated. There’s a lot that goes into writing a production ready application and in its current state, there just isn’t good enough AI for a non-tech savvy person to do it. At least anything beyond a small app that does like very basic tasks.
Can anyone answer me. I have Civil Engineer degree work over 10 years experience. I want to change careers to software development . Are there jobs for writing Civil Engineer software?
Hey Justin , really nice video! I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and also make a highly engaging Thumbnail which will help your video to reach to a wider audience .
Sorry to say, but you will be surprised rather unpleasantly. Most of your reasons will be invalidated by upcoming AI tooling in the next few years. Also, applying the rate of past technological progress to the future without considering the exponential speedup often results in bad predictions. I suggest to gain some actual experience in using LLMs before discrediting them for various tasks. Try to find actual examples supporting your claims, but don't be surprised if your opinion will suddenly takes a U turn. - "Your job won't be taken by AI, but someone who is using AI."
Ofc AI would not replace the SWE jobs, but it definitely would eliminate basically all entry-level and the bulk of middle level software jobs
How do you break into the world then, if entry levels are gone?
🎉Finally someone speaking some dam sense. If anything a CS degree is needed more than ever. Great video!
Thank ya sir! Much appreciated.

Thanks for the information!
a lot of college coding bootcamps are only 2k- 3k, its a small fee to learn useful skills
Very detailed and insightful. I appreciate the time and effort you put into this video. Thanks!
I don't see the purpose of the degree if you have to self teach along with it anyway
To get pass HR ATS systems. No degree, no job
If you followed up with chat gpt and explained there was a bug, it would try and fix the bug and generate the code again, not say hmm maybe try this.

Yes it is still useful if you don't live in the USA because if you live outside of the USA you need a degree because of the competition

Indians will replace coders in America. Just like the IT industry. So you are right on the money.
I guess only time will tell, I’m not worried at all.
