The track went together with little white clips made from a brittle plastic. They broke very easily and in later years were replaced by clips made with low-quality pot metal. I had a set very much like the one in this video. I definitely remember the controllers in the first set. I played with HO cars as a kid back in the '60s.

I never broke any of the Plastic clips. I did find after putting the tracks together, I would have dead spots until I Opened up the Wire Connectors to make contact from Track piece to track piece!

You can buy the little white original clips on line. There were no screws

My track had the little white clips, though once my dad mounted my track on plywood I never had to worry again about them breaking again.

I just can’t get enough of the old t-jets. Great memories of Christmas and building a layout on our ping pong table in the basement. I long for the old days. Thank you.

The original T-Jets from the 60's to about 1972 or so (I might off by about a year or two) were SO gorgeously detailed and truly 1:64. I love the AFX models too...but the details just weren't there...and the cars got fatter.....but they did perform MUCH better and tended to stay on track due to the magnets. Now, the new cars magnets are SO powerful you can just floor it at top speed and the cars NEVER fly off...hence, they are boring and not challenging to race. In fact, I use them to run around my track for about 2 or 3 minutes to get the oxidation off the rails BEFORE I run my old T-Jets, AFX, or old Tyco's.

I got an Aurora Model Motoring Stirling Moss racing set for Christmas back in the early 60's. I forget exactly what cars I got but they had the Vibrator motors...those were before the T-Jet 500's came out.

I got the '64 Aurora set (Mustangs on the box) for 5th birthday. Best gift ever. It didn't come with Mustangs but it did come with a pale yellow 63 Sting Ray and a baby blue 63 Jaguar XKE. Kids nowadays don't know what they're missing

I had . The figure 8 Stromberg slot car set. AURORA WAS ADVERTISED ON T.V. BUT I NEVER HAD AURORA. ONE OF THE CHILDREN I GREW UP WITH HAD A MIRROR SHINE PURPLE AURORA XKE JAG. THE STRIMBERG WAS A BEAUTIVUL LITTLE SLOT CAR SET WITH HAT C HET HEAD CONTROLERS. WE USED VASELINE TO LUBE THE GEARS ON THE CHAPPREL AND JAGUAR CARS IN MY SET. THE CHROME WIRE WHEEKS WERE BEAUTIFUL. THOSE WERE THE DAYS!😅

David here from Sebring Florida I was born in 1955 and had many slot car sets, and I thought you did a great job with your video thanks for sharing your collection! I thought about 95 percent of your information was correct. The music was not the best Choice, but that’s ok The main thing is that you are a slot car fan and collector, many of those sets are hard to find! Let’s stay positive! Your slot cars show a time we will never see again 😎All the best to you!

The Department store I bought my cars then sold the Aurora AFX for $3.99 and after Christmas for $1.99 which was a Great time to stock up on cars and the Parts were interchangeable of the AFX Chassis! Unless you bought the Extended Length Dragsters!

Would go to the hobby shop every week for new tires, springs for the rails. Lots of parts that cost 3 cents to a nickel. Did not like the Xcelerators. Received that for Christmas in 75 and did not really work as the cars would get stuck between rails

I see you have two plug in sections of track. I run mine that way but also run two to the wall so each lane has it’s own consistent power supply. Helps when your kid has a heavy finger I can turn down his power and keep him on the track not into the walls and breaking body shells. Amazing that slot cars are still a thing with such a following. New cars have strong magnets, and stay on the track with less finesse like the old ones. It’s worth picking up a bulldog slot car just to have fun on the old tracks.

It's to bad we were not childhood friends. You and I seem to have enjoyed many of the same toys as kids. I had Aurora race tracks as a kid. My two brothers did as well 70s-80s error. I bought a well enjoyed set at a trade shop. That kicked off an obsession to obtain the sets we had as a kid. I am now swamped with many sets and additional cars. I also went deep on HO trains.

As a kid we had one of the original sets with the dials as speed controllers. As I recall the two cars we had were a like a XK 150 Jag and Gall Wing Mercedes (not sure about this one). We were pretty young and we were pretty hard on our toys. As I recall it lasted quite a while and was quite fun.

There's a big slot car store where I live it's awesome. It's on route 11 in Bloomsburg I forgot the name of it. In Pennsylvania. You can basically get anything you want. 👍👍👍. They have drag racing tournaments it's so cool. In other races set up in that whole story it's like really neat. 👍❤️.

The track, was held together, by two metal pins, and a plastic tab that went in the middle, but the plastic tabs, were very brittle, and broke with time

I looked at a lot of sites about slot-cars in the US, but never saw anything from FALLER, the German brand. They made FALLER AMS cars and tracks in the sixties: I build a 30 meter long race-track, I think 1:64 scale, with cars that look a lot like your Aurora's. Aurora cars would fit to the Faller-tracks, but did not function 100 %: it was not the perfect combination. It is very sad I cannot post pictures of my cars and the track.

Queston: In the 80's there were selling off Aurora cars and tracks cheap, I think they company went bust? I bought the track and cars and remember the tracks had magnets.. could go up walls and I had a bendy track that could come shape. After a month, the Track would stop working properly, and always felt there was an issue with the magnets. Was this an issue and why they went bust? The cars too would stop working correctly. If I remember, the cars would also hit the bendy track and stop as magnets too strong.. after being fine.

    • @toywarp
      @toywarp  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Honestly it sounds like a storage issue. I still have a few of the tracks that do that and as long as the track and magnets are clean I don't have any issues to this day. Best to be stored in a cool dry place to minimize the rust on the track or dirt build up in the cars
