Hey Kayla I love your little guy. My daughter will be 2 in a few days. As far as tantrums, after working with mentally I’ll children for 15 years in psychiatric hospital I can tell you that honoring his emotions and asking him to show you why he’s upset and “use your words” as much as he can’t verbalize fully he will at least feel VALIDATED which is a huge part of why kids have tantrums. They feel like they aren’t being seen or understood. Calling his emotions “ugly” could make him feel that all emotions or expressing them is bad Try to say things like use your words or show me what is bothering you. But assigning bad words to behaviors or emotions can create children who withhold their feelings and can become impaired in speech later on bc their “expression” is being deemed as bad or unwanted. Just a little parenting tip I’ve seen work for tantrums. I’ve been dealing with them more too. Developmentally they NEED to tantrum so they can learn from you how to emotionally regulate themselves. Not simply stopping the behaviors. Hope it’s helpful and resonates.
I have to agree as someone who is studying child psychology it's so easy to dismiss because you think they are being terrors, but at this age it's because they don't know any other way and they need to be guided. It's as simple as saying "I can see your upset. What made you upset? Did it upset you I said you can't have this or that?" And I mean you can even add further later on "do you want me to leave you alone to process this? How about we try taking a deep breath and when you are ready you can tell me what's upset you?" Even just teaching the names for emotions helps, saying you are sad or you are mad helps.
I honestly wouldn't know what do to without social media showing me the things to look into as a parent; and trying to work on myself cause I'm horrible with my own emotions! I'm grateful to you Kayla for being so candid and willing to share
Take this or leave it- what helped us get our toddler to eat more variety was constant exposure. You mentioned Jackson won’t eat what you eat for dinner- keep giving him what you give him, but maybe try every single meal putting something on his plate that you are eating. No need to suggest to him he eats it, no pressure! But he will see the food and you eating the food, and over time may take it upon himself to try it! This could take months, but it helps in the long run. HANG IN THERE! You are doing GREAT!!!
Jackson is way more verbal than my son and follows a lot of commands. You would be surprised you may be able to potty train him especially if he’s staying dry at night or nap time, taking off his diaper, and telling you if he has pee or poop. I potty trained my son at 21 months and he’s still not verbalizing he needs to go but with non verbal cues he does! I followed the 3 day potty training video that’s here on TH-cam by the name Gabrielle lefty I believe. I just tried and it worked. day one was SO hard. But we powered through. Now he’s about to be 2 this month and still going strong. He does have accidents here and there and still wears a diaper for nap and night time. But I’m happy where we are! My other son didn’t get potty trained until he was 3 years 10 months. So a big difference! Love you videos by the way! So glad we have a child close in age and I’ve been watching you since 2020! ❤️
I'm with you on the picky eating. My son is the same age as Jackson and it's so hard to get him to eat ANYTHING. One thing that seemed to help my son eat PB&J's is I bought some dinosaur sandwich cut out on Amazon and he wanted to eat the sandwich after that! I also have a car one as well and it really made it fun for him! Maybe you could try that if you haven't yet? It helped my son, so I wanted to put that idea out for you! 😊
Thank you for posting a 2 year update. My 2 year old is having sleep regression and she's getting more picky with her food too. It's a tough time, hang in there.
I know I might sound crazy but the biggest, best advice I’ve gotten for food is they won’t crave flavorless food! We jumped on the Hello Fresh bandwagon and he has eaten EVERYTHING 😍 He’s 18 months, and of coarse I cut and serve him food in a manageable way for his age. But he even ate the freakin sweet chili pork! 😮 Kids want flavorsssss Not plain peas and seasonless stuff and I see that now! Play with seasoning for the same dishes too. And always introduce the food in tiny taste bites by themselves so they can experiment the texture and taste and they’ll crave more if they try just a bit first 🥰
I could be totally wrong, but do you think Jackson may not be interested in meals because he might be filling up on milk during the day/before meals? Just a thought because I know I was doing that with my daughter & didn’t even realize it. Once I started giving her food first & then a little bit of milk later she started eating more 😊 I could be totally but just a thought because that happened to me!
I was thinking the same thing, my son was having the same problem and I started to only give my toddler 12-16 a day of milk depending if he had something cheesy then less milk 🥛 That’s what I do first food then milk after wards or for snack.
I love how us moms understand our kids random words that other people don’t understand what the heck they are saying. My little girl will be 2 at the end of the month so I’m right there with you on a lot of these things.
My son is 21 months, so not too far behind Jackson. Overall he's a good little eater but he's had a few picky moments along the way that made me want to pull my hair out. I found these things have helped us: - BBQ sauce or ketchup with meat - Blend the veggies you are eating for dinner with apple sauce or a fruit/veggie pouch. Get Jackson to help use the blender if he's keen. My son gets excited! - French toast has been a big hit for us. He'll get the protein from the egg. I just do an egg, a little milk and cinnamon - Eggy pancakes. Just an egg, some oatmeal and mashed banana. I've used grated zucchini in them too. Hope this helps Kayla! 😊
@@savanahswafford9027 yes! Classic French toast ingredients. Dip bread in the egg, cinnamon and milk mixture then pan fry on both sides in a little butter or oil. Delicious! 😊
@@karenthompson2537 thank you so much I will definitely have to try that with my 2 year old she’s turning 3 tomorrow and has the worst eating habits ever😭
Hello Kayla.. thank you so much for the update. Thank you for responding to my question about potty training. I know my son it’s not ready he is 20 months I was not sure when to train him but I figure I should ask a mom with older kids. Thank you for showing all the toys and learning activities you do with him . I’m definitely going to purchase some of those books and flash cards. Love your videos and your beautiful family..💕
Thanks so much for doing this video! And thanks for linking the color sorting toys😍🥰 I know you've heard this before but you are really an awsome mom and inspiring and always have awesome tips to entertain our little ones. God bless you Kayla!🥰🤩😍
Hi Kayla, try to give him less milk, that might help with his appetite! My son is the same age and he refuses food if I give him milk. It makes him feel full
I second this. Im trying to get my 2 year old she just turned two in January 4th she still drinks milk out of a bottle....we are getting her to stop soon, but she wil not eat if we give her milk...ugh.
I feel for you mama! When my son turned 1 he went from being the best eater to being picky. Meal times can be so stressful so I worry giving him the same thing will make him even pickier down the track. The mental load of a mum!
Im on the opposite struggle with my toddler, she eats everything and she is on the limit of her percentile grow curve, its hard trying to control her she would pick up every single crumble and eat everything
My child does the same thing. I have to control her portions because she will eat anything and everything if it were up to her. Yes i feel lucky she eats fruits and veggies, I’m just worried about all the other things she eats while in daycare. 😔😔
We did the absolute same with our son in regards to sleep training. If it helps, I talked to a sleep consultant in a private group I'm part of and she said that sleep training needs to be reinforced at different periods of growth and sleep regression. We would do it in 20 minute intervals since the kid is older and you only stay in the room one minute if that. You don't need to engage with them, just say i love you, momma is here, just close your eyes and go to sleep. It also took us 2 to 3 days for our son to get back to sleeping through again, they absolutely remember quickly and it clicks again. It happened two or three times for us. Best of luck momma, hope it doesn't happen again for you guys. Also, i would encourage you to keep offering things he doesn't like that all of you eat at the same time. You can also include things you know he will eat.
Hi Kayla love your content, but I would like to know more about quiet time specially in a crib. My kid is 2 as well and I she battles her naps now so I think she's dropping them, but I do want to learn to implement quiet time with her. How do you do it? Or any tips on how to start?
for my 2yr I found avenger super hero masks for dress up at dollar tree and since he was so used to playing and running with it on he had no issue when needed to wear a face cover at Disney he did so good
Hi Kayla! Love your style of update videos! For the tantrums, have you read The Happiest Toddler on the Block? Such simple, easy ideas that worked for us when my oldest was younger
My daughter is 16 months old and sounds exactly like Jackson with eating..oh Kayla I feel you. Thank you for showing me I have someone I'm on the struggle bus with!
I was wondering if you had plans to do workbook activities with Jackson now that he is 2y my daughter turns 2 in April so I was interested in looking into what workbooks to try.
We love those flash cards as well! I swore my oldest was colorblind and spent way too much time worrying over it. I like your approach just realizing they'll do things in their own time. Do you find that the puzzles with the pegs work out better for him than without pegs?
My son is 2 he is really good with colors and numbers, I recommend this TH-cam channel called gigglebellies they have videos of monster trucks that go over colors, number, and a bunch of other things. My son is obsessed with anything cars and I really credit those videos for getting him to learn that stuff in a fun way. I hope this helps! Thank you for always keeping it real!
Your son reminds me so much of mine. My son was born 12/12. He plays with trucks so similarly and also loves the wheels. They say diaper the exact same and “big truck”, so cute.
my daughter turns 2 the beginning of march and has been refusing food. there are days where she had barely anything to eat and asks for milk the entire day. its a real struggle! today she skipped dinner
I'm with you my daughter will be 2 in March and can refuse lunch and tea, people say cut out milk but I get scared that's the only goodness she is getting, it's so tough and stressful
When did you start giving him a blanket and pillow? My son will be 2 in April and we haven’t given them yet. I can’t even remember when we gave them to my now 5 year old daughter lol
Hi Kayla, I love your videos. Don’t let the doctors scare you, they scared me too but as time went by I was doing everything right and he was eating , so I stopped worrying. my Son is 24 months and he weighs like 25 pounds now, but at 2 years old I believe he was 23 “pounds and he is still very healthy.. although lately he’s been a little picky with food but I think it’s totally normal for his age.. my husbands family is definitely in the smaller side and my husband is small and I’m however average size but I was very skinny when I was a baby... so I think it’s also the genes.. you are doing a awesome job so don’t worry girl... I also give my son multi vitamins everyday..have you tried making him whole grain old fashioned oatmeal? I make oatmeal with shredded apples, peanut butter, cinnamon, whole milk and add honey to sweeten a bit but with the apples it’s already sweet or you can add ripe banana instead of apples... it tastes really good, at first my toddler didn’t want it but kept introducing it and he likes it now and it’s super healthy, you can also put other of his favorites fruits on top to get him to eat it. Hope this helps.
My daughter will be 2 in March and the food struggle is real! She won’t eat all the things Jackson won’t eat. She won’t eat any fruits though. It’s a mission every time she’s hungry. She won’t eat those food pouches anymore either. I’m completely with you.
My son is the exact same was a great eater he even lost weight I tried everything. I was told when your giving him any meal give him 3 out 4 he likes and one serving new food or an old food he liked its a constant struggle and no one understands unless they went through it. Just keep offering try not to make a big deal out of it . It's fantastic he's eating fruit at least its something and if your worried about him not getting vitamins maybe give him extra vitamins its not ideal but at least you know he is getting them in him I hope this helps 🥰
Hi Kayla, any tips on helping a 6 month old self soothe? She wakes up every 2 hours at night and only takes 30-45 minute naps during the day. She will scream if she is not rocked to sleep and wants to nurse every 2 hours at night.
Have a set time for snacks and limit both snacks and milk. It will help with the appetite at meal times. He’s going to the fridge and snacking whenever he wants and it’s very disruptive to his eating schedule. His tummy is still so small and if he eats all that snacks and milk, although it looks little to you, it fills up his tummy..
Is Jackson getting his second year molars? My 2yo went off food and only ate banana and raspberries for 2 weeks and at the same time her sleep was nuts like a newborn but she didn't show any signs of teething or being in pain she just seemed like she had regressed entirely. I checked her mouth and of course right up the back at the bottom a new molar was poking through. It really messed us up for a few weeks and I had to sleep train again, dealing with managing emotions and reintroduce foods again.
I'm in the same boat when it comes to eatting, can't get my 22 month old to eat much of anything, will eat some eggs with dad, has now stopped eatting lunch, will eat pasta with me for tea, tiny teddies and these apricot yoghurt bars, stresses me out every day I try all sorts of things and she just won't eat
My son sounds just like him with his eating habits! It’s such a struggle 😫 literally everything you were listing my son doesn’t like either. Makes no sense lol
I’m on the struggle bus with my 24 month old as well. He would rather eat fruit than anything else. He’s refusing to eat meat as well😑. It’s been so stressful .
Loved the update on Jackson! He’s talking so much. I’m still waiting to hear my 18 month old say “mama” 😢 My son can be a picky eater too. I think it’s very common, and of course the tantrums are normal and healthy too. I’m curious, does your area not require masks like at church or Target or wherever? I’m not looking forward to my son having to wear one once he turns 2, I sure hope things are better by then. I will practice it with him but not to the point of it stressing him out.
My 20 month old doesn’t say mama!! He’ll point at me when he’s asked where I am, or “come to mama” and he will say dada all day long, but he’s a stinker when it comes to saying my name!
@@mandyhanson3372 I think it’s harder on some kids to say mama when I was alone with my daughter I kept looking at her and saying say mama say mama and she would look at me and she finally did it and I was like YES!
You should maybe look into vegetarian meals 🤔 my son is the exact same way! He will eat sausage and weenies i dont know what it is but ive tried everything
Have you tried chicken fries ? My daughter never wanted chicken nuggets until I gave her chicken fries because she was obsessed and still is obsessed with french fries. She loves chicken fries now
My 2 year old refused to touch chicken nuggets for 6 months, then magically this weekend he ate them and declared them “so yummy,” uh yeah dude, been trying to tell you
My first born was so easy- he would eat alot of stuff, it was great. No issues. My second born however lol… in the same boat as Jackson. Doesn’t eat anything, and once she seems to really like something, eventually it changes and she has no interest. So that’s been great…lol
My LO is about to be 20 months in a few days and potty trained by herself. She would also take her diaper off and put her poop all over. I got tired of cleaning up the poop that I started leaving her without diapers and she just one day sat on the potty and now she uses the potty at home. She does say pee pee and caca so I know when she's going, but her language is still lacking for the most part. I think kids just develop when they're ready. Jackson is so cute it's very funny to see him in this stage cause I been watching since his birth. He's too adorable and I think you're doing an amazing job mama with both your babies
My oldest son was born Dec 7th 2019 so right around Jackson’s birthday too and he’s also 23.5lbs and he’s 32.5in so pretty much exactly the same. When he was a baby I would hear all the time from strangers how small he was but I don’t hear it anymore. Now my youngest son is less than 1% and I actually had somebody over estimate his age the other week and I could have cried lol
Only been watching for a few minutes so far but had to comment because my 2 year old is the same - never without a car or vehicle in his hand!!! At least 15 come to bed with him every night 🤣
Ugh. The mask. My daughter is a month older than Jackson and that struggle is hard. Plus we’re trying to correct an eye issue which require glasses. Which battle do I choose? The eyes of course, especially since we go nowhere. I am so over the judging looks when we do have to go out. Parenting is hard. Why do people (parent or not) like to persecute so much.

Pls do a complete homeschool video.. Even about ur planning and curriculum choice. Story books and read aloud
This was so adorable 😍
He is tiny! I just looked back on my baby book and I also was 33 inches at 2 years but 27 pounds 😯
Hi Kayla, any tips on helping a 6 month old self soothe? She wakes up every 2 hours at night and only takes 30-45 minute naps during the day. She will scream if she is not rocked to sleep and wants to nurse every 2 hours at night.
please ask a pediatrician also , good luck
It's normal for babies to nurse at night, trust me every two hours at 6 month is pretty good! Good luck mama, you can do this 😘
My daughter is petite as well!
How did you get him to stop putting everything in his mouth instead of playing with things?!
What is the company’s name that you worked with that makes personalized books? And Do you still have a code? 🤗
Have you shown him Robocar Poli and Superwings?
Is Jackson getting his second year molars? My 2yo went off food and only ate banana and raspberries for 2 weeks and at the same time her sleep was nuts like a newborn but she didn't show any signs of teething or being in pain she just seemed like she had regressed entirely. I checked her mouth and of course right up the back at the bottom a new molar was poking through. It really messed us up for a few weeks and I had to sleep train again, dealing with managing emotions and reintroduce foods again.
I'm in the same boat when it comes to eatting, can't get my 22 month old to eat much of anything, will eat some eggs with dad, has now stopped eatting lunch, will eat pasta with me for tea, tiny teddies and these apricot yoghurt bars, stresses me out every day I try all sorts of things and she just won't eat
interesting vlog 💯💕😘 i loved it!!
my 5yr old- almost 6 year old grandson loves Blippy..........never even heard if it until last week.........
My son sounds just like him with his eating habits! It’s such a struggle 😫 literally everything you were listing my son doesn’t like either. Makes no sense lol
Got a sorting toy on eBay for $22 as the one on Amazon worked out to be over $40 Australia, just for other Aussies x
My almost 2 year is old is the same. He really only wants to eat pouches, fruit and milk.
I went to the doctors with my daughter and I told them she will not wear one and they said it was okay if she’ll take it right off then it’s fine
Good morning! ❤️
That's just the cars, you fool! 🤣🤣🤣 I legit laughed so hard
Heyyy
Have you tried chicken fries ? My daughter never wanted chicken nuggets until I gave her chicken fries because she was obsessed and still is obsessed with french fries. She loves chicken fries now
How tall are you and Joe?
Aww Jackson cleaning the whipped cream off your neck😍
I do the whipped cream thing with my two year old😂
My 2 year old refused to touch chicken nuggets for 6 months, then magically this weekend he ate them and declared them “so yummy,” uh yeah dude, been trying to tell you
My first born was so easy- he would eat alot of stuff, it was great. No issues. My second born however lol… in the same boat as Jackson. Doesn’t eat anything, and once she seems to really like something, eventually it changes and she has no interest. So that’s been great…lol
He would not starve - he would eventually eat
I add an egg and different fruits to pancakes for my son
Max.of 300ml milk/all dairy should help with his appetite
My daughter says garbage the same way. Babage 😂
Ahh 👋
The thing that he tries to take off diapers may be the sign for potty. Jist try to introduce, maybe he is ready, never know 🤷♀️
Still 6 diapers changes a day?
Ugh.
Pls dont sleep train your children, its not good for them
