"...then we're going to E for one bar, then B, F SHARP WITH A BASS TO G SHARP MINOR, I'll talk about that bit, this is a C sharp minor..." Made my day :D
Yes - I have long loved Justin's lessons but don't think I've seen that before. New thing? It's quite helpful on a tune like this with a tricky rhythm.
Love your stuff, Justin! But you know... If one were in concert tuning (Eb), and played along with the original track, the whole song is first position open chords (C F C G Am Dm7 G). Considering this is a guitar-based composition, I think Eb tuning is very likely. And even if I'm wrong... 1st position open chords vs carpal tunnel-inducing 7th fret barre chords on an acoustic guitar is a no-brainer. 😀
this was aaaweeesome.. first day, sooort of theere and a biiiiit of frustration.. second day.. gooot it.. also, it helped watching the original video a couple of times.. first, for the timing, but also, watching GM play the song! whaaat a triiiip!!! thanks duuude!
Justin, this lesson was awesome as always! I recently purchased your music theory course on your website and your lessons are so informative and helpful, thanks for all your work!!
I'm not sure if you take request but there is a song by Keith Urban called "only you can love me this way". it's a beautiful ballad with a great melody. Keith plays it a certain way and I've yet to find somebody on youtube who does it like him. it was me and my wife's wedding song and I would love to learn it the correct way so I could play it for her one day. I love your tutorials and would love to see you do this one. Thank you for what you do and keep up the good work : )
hey thx for the faith tutorial. I was just having another look at the tutorial you did on henridixs purple haze. let me tell you something ive been listening to him for a very long time and yes i can confirm that you have definitely nailed it. cheers😎
Hi Justin, I'm your subscriber, could you do a guitar tutorial for "Star People" from George Michael, love this song but, there is no guitar lesson for that song on you tube.
Great lesson again Justin and on a different note more of a request really if you get time in your busy schedule can you do a tutorial for marti pellow close to you nice acoustic guitar song
As ever a great piece of work. Thank you Sir! Being cheeky how about an arrangement for the wonderful lead break. I presume from the recording that several guitars were involved!
Hey Justin, any chance you could do a tutorial on "up the wolves" by The Mountain Goats. I love this song and recently started to learn guitar playing. It seems like it would be a simple song to learn. keep up the great vids m8 !
Damn that was so well done. I do'nt even like that song, but any guitarist can tell you that is NOT easy to play. Justin AGAIN you make it look so damn simple. We KNOW it's not... well done. You are brilliant. :D
cool Justin thank you, maybe you could goes in the way of your voice (sorry for my bad english language like every french f… people😅) Enyway I love your post, thank you to make us dreaming🙏🏻
Very good one! Happy New Year! Hoping you can help me solve a mystery. I have been noticing several artists particularly Richie Kotzen using a very odd looking bar chord all the way up and down the neck. Hard to explain without a photo, but it resembles a F shape. No pointer finger barred, with sometimes the thumb on the low E. It sounds incredible. I can't find this anywhere on the chord charts. Any ideas and direction would be deeply appreciated. ~Danny
It's not a bar chord in the strict sense. It is most likely E shape moved up the neck without bar. Try to experiment the sound of A and B bar chords for example with pointer finger lifted up, i.e. holding E shape mainly on 3rd, 4th and 5th string and let first 2 open strings ring out ;) using your thumb for root note, or you can just slightly mute the 6th string. Second most likely chord type is C shape (open chord position). Try to play it up the neck, for example on root position on 8th fret or experiment around. The beauty of the sound comes from the open strings ringing out! Long story short: Try bar chords in the key of E, all of them with root note on 6th string (majors and minors too) and keep first 2 strings open. I hope that made sense. P.S. Keep one more thing in mind - it could be a different tuning also. Cheers!
If you don't get the letters thing I just wrote down the pattern. Down Miss Miss Up Miss Miss Down Miss Miss Up Down Miss Down Miss Down Up. Yes I wrote it down while watching in slowmo.
Jason Hirschi I know you didn't ask me, but I didn't see a reply so I'll try. If I understand the question, "Pulsing" with the left hand helps stop the chord from ringing. Deadening the notes, creating a staccato effect. It enables the rhythm strums to sound persuasive (clicking) without causing the notes to sound. If he just held the chord down (fretting without pulsing) notes would just ring out and would sound nothing like the song.

Made my day :D
This song never fails to put a smile on my face and make me shake and move my head, such a tune.
Just now I realize it's got an 80s update of the "Bo Diddley Beat". Goes to show how enduring its importance is in popular music.
2:37 bopping to this
I always tell people to check out your channel. Such a concise way of teaching without any B.S. Keep up the good work Justin, all the best for 2017.
Justin, you owe us five hard rock songs after this lesson.
Concise, well explained with all the theory behind the thing and comments to encourage us. Best teacher ever.
great idea to have the rhythm on your wall !
took ages to rub it off ;)
Yes - I have long loved Justin's lessons but don't think I've seen that before. New thing? It's quite helpful on a tune like this with a tricky rhythm.
It's a one time thing. I can't imagine he paints in on the wall each time
It's video effect, yeah :D

Had to be done! Thought I'd done it years ago to tell the truth...
JustinGuitar Songs it's an easy song to play, but so hard to play and sing at the same time

If any body wants to know what it’s like to go out drinking with Justin, just put the speed down to 0.5x
As ever a great piece of work. Thank you Sir! Being cheeky how about an arrangement for the wonderful lead break. I presume from the recording that several guitars were involved!
Someone pressed 'Dislike' for this? I thought it was fine, and the F#/A# sounds more accurate than the A#m I've seen used on other sites.
haters gonna hate, nobody cares about them, but I appreciate the likes!! :)
I’ll just come back to this one
whats that stuff on the nut of the guitar? Is that for show or does it actually mute the strings once u lift the finger from fretboard??
Hey Justin, any chance you could do a tutorial on "up the wolves" by The Mountain Goats. I love this song and recently started to learn guitar playing. It seems like it would be a simple song to learn. keep up the great vids m8 !

There seems to be some vowels missing from your keyboard as well. Please do something!
wasupwityounospeakinfullwrds?
Isn't that rhythm called the "Bo Diddley beat"?
It sure is!
Is there a reason why you are pulsing your fret hand as you play? What does it do for you? Maybe its just a personal thing?
Jason Hirschi I know you didn't ask me, but I didn't see a reply so I'll try.
If I understand the question,
"Pulsing" with the left hand helps stop the chord from ringing. Deadening the notes, creating a staccato effect.

If only you showed the chord progression 💁🏻♂️
Why don't you open up your eyes when you sing? Shyness???
shybess, the smith is a good song. Can you do it?

When did Norm McDonald get an accent and start teaching guitar?
I know you want to reply to me, Justin !
Do I? :)
Third
So who can count highest... I think I can get to 4!
Very good Justin, just like this lesson! Cheers.
first
congratulations!
who's watching 2017?
Im totally lost with your 1e+a strumming explanation :( Is it really improtant to swing your arm all the time?
I play. Just ignore the strum pattern listen by ear and you'll figure ur own way of strumming
I often like your song lessons more than Marty's because Marty doesn't sing. Not that you're good at singing.
Sudah² lah tu mat
So complicated
milking it a bit aren't we...
Andyguitar uploaded one just before this one. Coincidence?

not quite!
