I loved her. In my opinion, one of the finest pianists ever to grace a stage! Not only was she technically brilliant, but so emotional that she truly made that piano sing!!! Her poetic pauses were so beautiful and with great anticipation, I wait for the next graceful note. Her performances touch the soul so deeply and can bring one to tears with their awe-inspiring, magnificent beauty. May this brilliant and beautiful woman rest in peace. What a wonderful pianist! Such great phrasing. She plays with that Bel Canto style. She makes the truly difficult look easy. I once heard the great Jorge Bolet say..."if Schnabel had fingers and Llevhine had a soul, we'd all be out of business!" I'm happy to say Ms. Engerer has both. May she rest in peace.
The singing quality of this artist's tone - projecting, projecting, connected, with depth of resonance and (I use the word carefully) honesty - is one of the things which set her apart. To make one of the most well-known piano works in the repertoire (the 3rd Liebestraum which begins this ) sound so new and so emotionally committed is a very fine achievement. Apart from Engerer's sovereign professional qualities (always technically in check), her ability to move an audience deeply here shows what a very great artist she was. Here, Liszt treads a very, very fine line towards sentimentality and this perforamnce marvellously avoids it, without sacrificing passion. In this, I am reminded of another great pianistin this repertoire, Jorge Bolet.

Along with her complete Chopin Nocturnes and the CD of Schubert (including the Wanderer Fantasy), these 'late' recordings of a much-cherished and much-missed artist are part of a precious legacy. Avez-vous remarqué à plusieurs reprises sur les images, au fond du Chœur de l'église, les paroles de Jésus instituant l'Eucharistie: "Ceci est mon Corps donné pour vous" ? Ce concert Liszt donné par Brigitte presque jour pour jour deux ans avant son rappel à Dieu est une véritable célébration de la Passion; et aussi une sorte de célébration eucharistique.
