My big question is are the mounting spots strong enough to take the impact. I know guys who tried this on Harleys, only to find where they're actually mounting the strut to start cracking. Basically the support mounts will never meant to take the impact of riding rigid. I personally love what you're doing with it so I really hope you have maximum success.
Good idea to use the original ends of the shock absorber. The result was really good. !! As a tip for those who do not have access to welding, I only used a solid square aluminum tube with holes at both ends. the same result nen significantly less work for those who do not have access to welding. 👍
Hey man, quick question. When you lowered the bike by 2 inches, is there a noticeable gap between the rear swing arm and the bike frame? I did the same thing but noticed when looking at the bike from the rear, the left swing arm (chain side) is close to the frame but the right has a larger gap. Im worried incase we warped it somehow, curious if you had a similar result? Cheers.
Quick question - why go the strut route when you have done so many hard tail conversions? Apart from all the extra work would look awesome and clear out all the space where the shock is. 👍🏻
Why don't you extend the linkage arm (dogbones)? This is a torture mod whyle you can drop the bike and keep suspension with the dogbone mod. Now, the result is just oposite... not in line at all, looks like your "hardtail" frame is bended now. Your "about" measurement killed the whole job. But the best and most comfy sollution is a slightly longer linkage arm... you can weld, cut it, extend it. 1 till 1,5 cm makes a huge difference. You also don't save money by destroying a 800 rear shock. Check the 2nd hand market. About the fork problem, you can extend the frame head or change rake also. Gives you a longer wheelbase. You have the tools and the skills, looks like you have to think twice before starting.

Are you going to cover how you relocate the water neck/thermostat housing? I'm stuck on a few ideas and curious to see how you did it to fit a smaller tank. Thank you!
@@whatTHEbertttt I built this about 10 years ago. And then it sat well without a bracket. I probably used cable ties for a little extra stability. I am working on a vn800 now and am in the same process and will do this again. Now I thought I would try to find a better solution but have not really figured it out yet.
@@Yordan-FTR1200 nice. i was thinking about fabricating an all brass T fitting, with a filler cap and just run hose straight hose from the top radiator connection, to the T, then to the hard cross over pipe. Braze a little mounting bracket then just riv-nut it to the frame. Looks good in my head, but we'll see.
I'm not trying to tell you how to live your life, but I've been working in occupational medicine for many years. Please put the guard back on that grinder! I care about you, man and I've seen too many people severely messed up by exploding cut off wheels.
Nicely done!! I am putting a 10" over wide glide together for my rigid shovel. I may be 74 years old but I have always thought home built is the best.

Im getting a Vulcan 800 and don't like the way it sits. might try swapping the fenders and seat to change that. definitely used you for inspiration.

I have seen one youtuber who does the same project I forgot who was it but he did the same thing and you both did great.

my priority is fitting the springer and all that extra work will require a lot time and sadly I dont have that luxury anymore
Maybe he's thinking about the future owner. With strut it is easier to turn back to normal.

just turn it around and shorten the hose on one side. super simple and it works well.!
