A bit of background: It's the first single from Saltatio Mortis' upcoming concept album Finsterwacht, an hommage to German tabletop RPG Das Schwarze Auge (DSA)/The Dark Eye (TDE). The box contains the CD, a novel, a tabletop adventure book (choose your own adventure style) and dice. Saltatio Mortis is a German medieval rock band, but they also mix in different music styles. Finsterwacht are a line of towers/beacons in the mountains of Finsterkamm, as last line of defense between the lands of humans and orcs at Heldentrutz, a part of Weiden in the Middenrealm at the continent of Aventuria. Their function is to warn the people as seen in the video.
Saltatio Mortis (latin for dance of the dead) is a german folk metal band. They founded in 2000 and started by playing music on medieval markets and as street musicians. The Pack that survived the first battle and going to adventure are the band members. The Captain is the Singer Alea, the guy who was killed by the arrow is Luzy one of the bagpipe players, trhe last survivor is Falk, he plays the Hurdy Gurdy, the guy who died at the tree is Frak, the bassplayer, the guy who sent Alea away is the drummer Jean and so on. Beside playing on big festivals and concert halls now, they still can be found on medieval markets playing for free. They still have strong ties with the whole medieval and Larp (Live Action Role Play) scene in Germany. Thats why they are able to produce such an amazing video. Most of the actors are volunteers and friends bringing their own equipment and working for nearly no money. Alea is also an avid sword fighter from his active days at the medieval markets. Most of their music is in german, but they also have some songs in english like Pray to the hunter (also awesome video) and The Dragonborn comes feat Lara Loft. I would also recoment My mother told me, pretty good song and awesome video.
Saltatio Mortis is also a good Liveband. You should listen to "My mother told me " "The dragonborn comes " and "Pray to the hunter ". Good songs and videos! They made also one of the versions from "Hypa Hypa" with Electric Callboy.
Great Reaction! All Members are in the Video. The Singers Name are ,,Alea der Bescheidene,, (Alea the Humble One), the Guy with the arrow in the Neck is ,,Luzi das L,, (Luzi the L) he is one of the Bagpipes Player, the one who dies on the tree are ,,Bruder Frank,, (Brother Frank) is the Bass Player, the Guy who sacrifices himself for his comrade are Till Promill (Till Alcohol Level) is the Guitarist, the with Bald Head is ,,El Silbador,, the Second Bagpipe Player (Funfact the Bagpipe Player is make your own instruments), the Guy with black Hair are ,, Jean Méchant,, the Drummer of the Band (and exzellent Guitar Player to), and last not least the Guy with the Long Hair are ,,Falk Irmenfried von Hasen-Mümmelstein,, (Falk Irmenfried from Bunny-Eatstone) he is the Hurdy Gurdy Player (and Bagpipes to). The Song are from the Upcoming Album ,,Finsterwacht,, comes out in May, and ist a Art of concept Album and Homage to the German Pen&Paper/Table Top Game ,,Das Schwarze Auge,, (The Black Eye). Please look the making of from the Finsterwacht Video Clip
@farin71 Der Beitrag ist super - es könnte aber der Verständlichkeit sehr helfen, jedesmal dann, wenn du von einer dritten Person schreibst, "are" durch "is" zu ersetzen. "The guy with the black hair _is_ " etc. (Das ist nicht sarkastisch gemeint.)
Btw. the dying guy at the beginning, who hands over the scroll is Bernhard Hennen, a very successful german author. He started out writing adventure modules for The Dark Eye back in the 1980s and 90s. In the 2000s he he increasingly switched to writing his own stuff. Among others "The Elves", a series that even got translated (at least partly) into English, which is rather rare for german genre authors. Lately, he has been doing stuff for The Dark Eye again.
@@DashyAndDadReacts You are welcome. I'm on a bit of a crusade to promote german fantasy authors to the english speaking world ;) If you want to check out whether Hennen's books might be something you would enjoy reading, Philip Chase has a short review of the first book as part of his "the best of Fantasy" series.
Finster means dark, with an ominous bent. It can also mean grim. Wacht is watch as in The Black Watch. So the song basically is about the Dark/grim Watch's last stand against the "Orkensturm", the ork storm. The choir in the last third of the song is a prayer to Rondra, the goddess of battles and thunderstorms. In the world of the Dark Eye, the more people join in a prayer, the more power it has/the more likely it is that the deity in question is going to listen to it.
Great reaction Love this song and everything else about Saltatio Mortis, so I'm stoked about every reaction to Finsterwacht. Thanks and keep on your cool content. Greetings from Northern Germany
Loved your reaction - that was an amazing collection of adjectives. 🤩 Someone said already that this video was produced in the context of a very popular German RPG, for the 40th anniversary of that game. (It was the bands idea, though, as most of the members had played the game, and some still do until today.) And yep, that game had (very much Tolkien-inspired) Orcs from the very beginning. The Orcs from the video, btw, were LARPers, too, and I think they did an awesome job. (I think we need more appreciation for Orcs anyways. Would hardly be anything to battle without them.)
I Love the Reaction Videos from your Channel and can not wait to see the React to the New SALTATIO MORTIS Video ,,Finsterwacht,, Funfact all Band Members are Actor in the Video or better Movie ^^
Hi, realy nice one.. 🤘 May I suggest "FAUN & ELUVEITIE - GWYDION", german Pagan Folk meets Swiss Folk Metal, truly a masterpiece... Stay safe and greetz from Germany
What a perfect reaction video, I had to watch it again. May I leave a request? Maybe you know him. The Song is "Bates Motel" by fantastic Paul Roland. May you recongnize the Song he must have heard while writing the Song, its in the Background ;)

Lyrics of “Finsterwacht” = “Darkwatch”
[intro]
Darkness weighs heavily on the land
The looming peaks of the mountains rise ominously into the sky
After all these years it's back, that eerie whisper in the night
What is hidden there in the dark forests?
A storm is coming, it is getting cold on the Dark Ridge
But there is hope
For in the midst of all this gloom, the Guardians of the Watch stand high up on the towers
Day after day, night after night
Ready to defend our families and our country with their lives
When they light their fires, the Goddess has mercy on us
It is the fires of fear that burn there
May the heroism of the Guard shine brighter than the light of the flames
Because they are our last bastion from what lurks for us in the shadows
And our hope there on the Finsterwacht
[Verse 1: Alea]
The flames burn high up
The sky is black and distant
A memorial in the darkness
Every fire is a star
Say goodbye friends
Sing one last song
Sign after sign together into the night
On the Darkwatch
[Verse 2: Hansi Kürsch]
Silent heroes without rest
The looks sharp as steel
United, inspired by the courage to die
Let's stand here one last time
Be vigilant friends
The shadows have awakened
Sign after sign together into the night
[Chorus: Alea & Hansi Kürsch]
And the world is on fire
I want to go through the fire with you
Until our ashes unite for eternity
And the world is on fire
Then we'll see each other again
Beyond here, beyond time
[Instrumental Break]
[Chorus: Alea & Hansi Kürsch]
And the world is on fire
I want to go through the fire with you
Until our ashes unite
For eternity
And the world is on fire
Then we'll see each other again
Beyond here, beyond time
For eternity
[Bridge: Choir, Hansi Kürsch & Alea]
Fires flare up
We are the light in the night
Rondra, hear our choir
Come stand with us, for we are the guard
Friends, be careful (fires blazing)
On the Darkwatch
Be the shield wall at the end of the world (We are the light in the night)
Hold the tower (Rondra, hear our choir)
Also in Orkensturm
Stand together for we are the watch (Come stand with us for we are the watch)
Friends, be careful (fires blazing)
On the Darkwatch
Be the shield wall at the end of the world (We are the light in the night)
Hold the tower (Rondra, hear our choir)
Also in Orkensturm
Stand together for we are the watch (Come stand with us for we are the watch)
[Chorus: Alea & Hansi Kürsch, only Hansi Kürsch]
And the world is on fire
I want to go through the fire with you
Until our ashes unite
Forever (Forever)
And the world is on fire
Then we'll see each other again
Beyond here, beyond time
For eternity
