Thank you, that is very kind of you to say. Yeah whittling and caricature carving is a great way to get into the craft! It's much cheaper and you get some really fun and unique results! I've been wanting to get into it myself, but I find myself drawn to the relief carvings more I guess. Happy carving!
I'm blown away. Excellent job. I found you today You are an inspiration. Once I'm well again, I will begin relief carving. Thank you. You are incredible.
I have been carving for years .Thanks for helping me to introduce power carving to my hand carving, now I don't feel that I am chiding . Thank you so much. Julien Lamarche
I'm assuming "chiding" you mean to be cheating? lol. Yeah I don't think there is anything wrong with mixing the traditional gouges and power carving together. I guess I'd consider myself a hybrid carver I suppose. I definitely prefer carving with gouges, but I'm still collecting them and I don't have a gouge for every situation yet. Sometimes a dremel is the only tool that will work for a particular area of the carve.
I thought it said 2.2m subscriptions and I was so upset when it said 2.2k... Mate you've got my sub but how are you not in the millions you're work is unreal 🤯
Thank you, that's really kind of you to say! Sadly you're kind of at the mercy of TH-cam and what they want to feature. You're definitely helping though by subscribing and sharing my work. Thanks again!
This is obviously quite spectacular... I came here looking for some tricks on how to relief carve buildings (I'm think about a storefront scenes generally in the same way as this piece), and it definitely helps. I'm wondering now about two things that I hadn't considered: 1) I have a set of basic gouges that I bought off Etsy, but I wonder if I need more specific tools to make mine look anything like this and 2) I've been using basswood for my creations so far, but I wonder if this (pine) is better? My shavings don't seem as... buttery as yours. Very beautiful, can't wait to see the final piece (I'm in the middle of the video at this point). Inspirational!
Thanks!! I’d say that basswood is very similar in softness to pine so if your not getting clean cuts with basswood I’d question how sharp your gouges are. What selection of gouges do you have? I think you’d be able to carve something like this with gouges. The only thing would be maybe some texturing that I use a power dremel for. I’d love to see your carving when it’s done!
Wow. That’s really good. You are a master. I started Dremel carving, even spent the money on an scm high speed engraver. Now I’m thinking I went the wrong way.
Thanks!! Honestly power carving is a great asset to have in the tool box and while I prefer using traditional gouges, there will always be areas that I grab a dremel for in a carving. I’d say I’m a hybrid carver lol.
If its the gouge I think you're talking about it's a mini spoon bent V gouge. It's actually a game changer tool to have. It's bailed me out of some tight spots when doing any sort of deep relief carvings.
I figured it didn't matter and began the cutting. I'm using what I have and getting acceptable results. Thank You for the reply. " mini spoon bent V gouge" LOL@@ChiseledOutdoorsCC
Wow! I just discovered your channel. That is one wonderful job of relief carving! Well done indeed. I've done a few relief carvings myself and I know how easy it is to make a mistake while doing the carving. Wonderful attention to detail!
Now that was very enjoyable watching. I believe that we all have untold skills that hasn't even been unlocked because we have failed to try to do anything. I've learned this through the years from making jewelry to somewhat wood carving but never really got nowhere with a wood carving but I want to re-enter. Not to say I want to jump in on something like that that looks like that would take a little bit of skill and knowledge of what you're doing, but I bet I can work my way up to it.
Thank you for such a well thought out professional video. Your video technique is very good and your narration adds further quality. I am wondering how thick the piece wood you used is? Thank you for taking the time to present this project.
Hi, At the 7:43 mark it appears to me that you are flat gouging in another cut between the slats. Do you do this to help keep a straight line? Also, as the slats run off into the distance do you make any compensation for that? I don't mean by making them thinner but when you bevel them? I know there is not much distance . Thank You.
Yeah I did use the flat gouge to help me maintain a straight line. As far as compensating as the siding goes into the distance, no I didn't make any depth changes. I kept them consistent all the way across. Hopefully this answers your question.
Es un hermoso trabajo, me encantó, muchas felicidades, aprendí mucho de tu forma de trabajar, yo estoy haciendo algo parecido pero no se dar forma a los árboles y tú lo haces excelente.
Thanks! I put a coat of natural stain to allow it to penetrate and soak into the wood. Then I apply a coat of stain/mineral spirits to give it some color.

Omg that is beautiful!! You are definitely a master carver, at age 64 I just took up carving caricatures, nothing as nice as this!

Nice job! Dremels are the saving grace for us relief carvers. I don't care how sharp my tools are, the Dremel is always that little bit extra
Thanks! Yes they can bail us out for sure! I love using them for texturing and detailing. I think that’s where they really shine.
Very very very very nice job looking very good!!!!!!!👍💯💯👌👌
Thanks
nice carving...if you've never tried it before i recommend getting your hands on some jelutong wood...trust me...you'll like it.
Thanks. Yeah? Interesting, I'll have to try it sometime.

Awesome again, especially the trees and grass. I’ve gotta stop trying to blow the Dremel dust off the screen though 😂
Thanks I appreciate it! lol
Hi Me again. At the 8:10 mark what gouge are you using? Sometimes it looks like a v-tool to me. I just can't tell. Thanks

Very clean work.
What finish did you put on it? At first it looks like varnish but then what is this dark liquid?
Thanks! I put a coat of natural stain to allow it to penetrate and soak into the wood. Then I apply a coat of stain/mineral spirits to give it some color.
@@ChiseledOutdoorsCC thank you.
Where do you get your wood. Great job and thanks and God bless
I get my wood from a local sawmill and I prep it for carving myself.
Could you also do a video on how to sharpen your gouges. What method do you use.
Also what method do you use sharpening your gouges
I use diamond stones to sharpen my gouges. A lot of times tho they just need to be honed. I have duel power buffer that comes in handy for that.
Well done looks great! Did you draw the pattern yourself?
Thanks! Yeah I did draw the scene myself.
Soy tu nuevo suscriptor, felicitaciones, excelente trabajo.
Pregunta, que madera ocupas?

( 8-08 ) Немного не понял , если это бревна то почему не полукруглые , а если доска зачем вы ее дробите под рубленную топором ?
Muy buenos pero no ponen las medidas del trabajo

Sorry, but I left as soon as I saw the power tools.
