I found a Shiny Herdier while EV training a mienshao, one of the worst times because you're just mindlessly repeatedly knocking out pokemon for EV's. The mienshao was 20 levels higher, and I didn't realize it was shiny until AFTER I selected hi Jump kick, absolute guaranteed OHKO
It missed with 90% accuracy and I caught the thing. That is like two fucking miracles rolled into one.

For those of you who want a sad shiny story... let me give you one. When I was 8 years old I was playing my favorite pokemon game. Pokemon emerald. I had heard of shinies but never found one. That day in the safari zone I found a shiny aipom. I was so happy! I threw a ball. Two shakes and she broke free. She didn't run. I threw another. 3 shakes and broke. She stood there, watching. Ball 3. And I caught her! I didn't give her a nickname, as I didn't want to at the time. And no, I didn't have my SP battery die. My game didn't freeze. My mom (Who was rather strict about video games) opened the door fast, and she was mad. So in fear, I shut off the game without saving and put the SP behind my back. Only to realize she was going to scold my brother for not taking out the trash the previous night. Needless to say I spent the rest of that month being rather spiteful to her.

The Shuriman Pigeon I was on this same toilette where I'm typing this from and I was playing Pokemon Crystal. I ran into a shiny Rikou and I got so nervous and shaky but I tried composing myself and threw an ultra ball... I caught it in the first throw and I was ecstatic praising the Lord that I pulled it off. And in a mindless second of praise, I shut off my GBC without saving

I'm thankful that my shinies all hatched from eggs (wasn't shiny hunting, so it was more of a surprise) and all under 100 eggs. The only shiny I caught is a wild Ditto with imposter through SOS chaining, which was another surprise because it was under 100 chains.
I never CAUGHT a shiny but I did get lvl100 shiny lucario from wondertrade as a kid I was too dumb back then so I traded it for a weak pokemon... 😱😵

My first ever shiny encounter was an accident actually. It was a shiny Haunter in Pokemon Y like 4 years ago. I thought it was a glitch since i didn’t know about shinies back then. I caught him and eventually evolved him into Gengar and he’s been my staple Pokemon ever since. Coincidentally Gengar was always my favorite Pokemon
