So I made your bear head, then did a granny square all same color for the body, with some net-like stitching (from making water bottle holders) to make a pouch on the square to hold the card. Then I added tube-arms and legs with magic circle paws. It turned out adorable!!

I bought a similar pattern from elsewhere, the stitches are slightly different but I love the look of this one too. I find it so confusing with American and UK crochet stitch names - I don't know why they're called something different. I think a double crochet (US) is a treble (UK)? x

Should I leave a longer tail of the brown, like with the snout, or use a different strand altogether?

Can i do with 3.5mm crochet hook? I have this 3.5mm and almost 6 one.
Yes, you could try with that hook. But make sure that your tension is nice and tight. You don’t want big gaps in your work 💞
