Yes one of my favourite episodes ever. When I'm feeling depressed about life I cheer my self up watching Bonanaza! I wish I was like little Joe and had a loving father and brothers instead of the dysfunctional hand I was born into!
What a beauty!! Tis no surprise Lil Joe fell hook line and sinker for her. Didn't understand the underplots between Ben and Julia. Clearly they knew each other from the old days, but beyond that, one canna tell. Confused story line, no clear black and white moment here. Love this series. Found my Bonanza.
That was the most confused episode I have ever seen. The writing was all over the place but the story was good. Still one of the best TV shows ever produced
I didn't understand this one myself. So, was she leading him on, or was she not leading him on? What was the real relationship between her and the Frenchman?
I love that the brothers make sure it's a fair fight and then drink a beer while their little brother gets the shiznit beat out of him. But why did Adam carry Joe off? Hoss could do it without any effort at all.
I think Pernell Roberts thought some of the scripts were immature..so do I, but enjoy the ones that weren't comedy based..he moved on to finally play Trapper John, which gave him a chance to prove some of his talent, even though I wouldn't brag about those writers either..show business, I guess
@@dianeblack8849 Actually in an interview by the producer, he admitted that he was unfair to Pernell. One of the first special 10 Episodes of Bonanza in the 1959-60 season that did loosely follow the history of the great silver strike in 1858-59 that became the Comstock Lode, and the founding of Virginia City. Being a history buff, those first 10 Bonanza Episodes are my all-time favorite episodes of the show. After that, Bonanza stories became more standard Hollywood / TV western. There are two great books that inspired the show, THE BIG BONANZA (1876) Dan DeQuille and ROUGHING IT (1872) Mark Twain. Both authors had lived in Virginia City during the original glory days of the silver strike, both as newspaper men writing for "The Territorial Enterprise" and living in the genuine 'Wild West' era. The Bonanza Season 1 Episode 5, "Enter Mark Twain" shows the arrival of Twain in 1860 roughly, when Twain actually did not arrive in Nevada Territory until July 1861.
With all that fighting, its a wonder the men had any teeth left, or straight noses etc not the first episode where Joe falls in love with an older womam😁😁😁
Maybe outside she was beautiful but inside no she led Joe on , to get back at his father..Something went on between Ben & her. Seems he knew her from long ago.
Who ever wants to see more of the beautiful Jane Greer (as "Julia Bulette") can look for the movie "Out of the Past" 1947. In this episode (Season 1, Episode 6, October 17, 1959) she is 35 years old.
1)Once while watching opera on PBS my street smart daughter turned to me, pointed at the tv screen & asked, "Does that lady die!" I replied, "Honey, this is opera, Everybody dies." 2) Little Joe french kissing the dansel at 11:05. He's off his game.
The intensity of this love story is beyond the relationship of a mother, son, female, and newfound exotic love, the intensity of the tears running down my face are somewhat confusing. This woman was so sexy, exotic, and romantic it defies explanation's, and little Joe's affections for her reveals what the right woman can do for the right gent, and in this scenario, it was this woman was perfect for joe, to come to full fruition as a Cartwright son, man, gentrified.
Love this one! Thanks for the upload! Anyone notice, when, at 38:20 into the episode, Joe is walking down the steps from the stand and he like, bangs into an invisible wall or something, as Hoss touchs him, and then laughs and grabs his face? Been trying to figure it out:)
Love me tender, love me sweet ,Never let me go, You have made my life complete, And I love you so. Elvis sure could write. For those don't know Love Me Tender is the music that was played at certain parts of the episode
Actually, the melody is much older. Elvis borrowed it from the song "Aura Lee", which was written in the 1860s, so it was known in the Cartwrights' times.
Most all episodes of Bonanza were rather well done satire on westerns. I wonder how many saw that, except for a very few episodes, this is comedy of the western. The best shows were always when "Adam Cartright" starred.
I have to admit that Ben lied to Little Joe when he said that Joe's mother was shunned because she was Creole, but that's not the whole truth. Joe's mother was also a woman who was known for worldly things as well, but Ben said those things didn't matter because he loved her and she loved him. But I think it's really the big age difference that's really bothering Ben and I can understand that.
I don't think it was the age difference. I think it was because deep down she knew she couldn't change her ways. She was using Little Joe. Ben knew that but Little Joe didn't, and he didn't want Little Joe to get hurt.
@@NorthfieldHymnSinging Yeah, well Ben said he was worried about Joe's reputation; being involved with an experienced older woman. But she did not use him. She was flattered that a young cutie defended her honor as well as appreciative of her attractiveness. Joe on the other hand, he put himself out there like that. Did you see the 1st episode, did you see episode 66? Attractive older women is his gig...that's what he does. Joe was a bit more partial to this lady because of the similarity to his mother. So, they both were pulling off of each other for their own personal reasons.
@@misslucky5474 I don't think I have seen those episodes. Hoss and Adam's commentary on the fight is the best part of this episode.
I dunno a guy that shoots people so often that the bartender and owner keep a wood mallet for whacking him in the head is so funny
Yes the commentary is so brotherly between him and just the way they get refreshments to go with the 🍺 entertainment ❤️✌️🍻😆😂🤣
Michael Landon's Joe character: jump around like a spider monkey. Michael Landon: ok
Love your comment, love that the two I admire most of all in the series let Little oe take on the guy. Nice to see the little man get knocked around.

The Cartwright curse. It begins with Ben Cartwright then it passes down to each of his sons.
