I’m a 78 year old woman now. I was born in 1944. I was 5 or 6 years old and my daddy had a poppin Johnny. Of course daddy’s would probably have been older than the models you have. But I can still remember the sound of him working in the field and I could always tell when he was coming home. Boy, would that old tractor start popping up a storm. Just like an old horse coming home. My daddy was known for the wonderful Black Diamond watermelons that he raised and I can remember those large transport trucks coming into his field and loading those melons onto them for shipping all over the state of Texas. Daddy would just walk along in the field and point to the melons that were ready and they would load them up. When the patch no longer had enough good melons to sell he would turn the hogs into the patch. When he did this I would go into the patch and pick up a watermelon on the ground and the heart would just pop out of it. Hardly any seeds, just pure, sweet watermelon. 🍉🍉🍉I can still taste it now and I don’t believe that there aren’t many around now that can compare to that taste of my daddy’s Black Diamond watermelons.🍉🍉🍉My daddy’s name was Lonnie T. Robertson and at that time his farm was near Vernon, Texas.
I have the same tractor but in a widespread. It’s not running well right now and needs some TLC. But thanks for sharing this just for the love of the sound. FYI I put a straightpipe on mine 😉
Grew up with a 70. Love that sound! Wish I could get an engine like that on my riding lawnmower. I'd be in heaven!
